Chapter 8 - Away from Danger

After leaving the cliff, the slaves hurried themselves while guided by the knight. Without the chains dragging them down the group settled far from the abomination's pursuit.

Although they're now safe the unease never left. The boy was out cold while the two adults discussed which route they should go.

The eloquent man on the left despite being a slave seems to know the paths well. While the knight on the right only knows the original path the caravan would go.

Sunny just realized their language was different but he understood, although the name of things they say didn't register though.

'the spell.' Sunny wondered about the spell, amazed by how the spell works.

While the boy was asleep Sunny found some fruits although missing a left eye, his right side seems to work just fine. Plucking them from the branch he was immediately stopped by the knight.

"Young lady, that's poisonous." he remarked

*thud*

The fruits Sunny hold fell to the ground, dumbfounded of the new reality.

'I dont even want to know.' the shock from before and how fast the circumstances unfolded he was in disarray.

"Did you ate it?!"

"No." Looking away from the knight Sunny bluntly replied. With such a great memory, Sunny was deflated for a while.

Time past, the group marched. A route more elevated than the one the caravan was supposed to go ensuring faster travel.

Each step, the lively boy began to limp. Exhaustion has caught up to him again, the short rest was clearly not enough.

Sunny endured more and is already accustomed to such pain.

The knight carried the boy continuing their walk.

It was steep, various stone slabs protruding. It was nearly close to climbing and eventually reach their destination with complicated faces.

The bridge was gone.

The remaining path was to climb the very peak of this mountain. Meanwhile the unease was growing, there's tension in the group.

'Would the knight continue to help? Is the boy gonna drag the group? What is the eloquent man's goal?'

Such thoughts lingered on Sunny's mind, and surely others would think too. He didn't know what the unease is comingfrom, so he continues to move forward to a different path.

Soon they faced a wall, the wall meant to be climbed yet the only problem was the relentless winds and dangerous slopes.

*whoosh*

Such coldness carried by the wind also added difficulty in climbing.

The knight couldn't carry two children at once.

"I can handle myself, that slave needs more rest. Bring him first, it's safer if no body is left alone" Sunny answered, thinking the knight could be his only hope. Instead of going first and be left alone on the top, it was better to be with an adult. The eloquent man can climb by himself but obviously isn't athletic enough to carry another slave.

So the knight climbed the right side of the wall, gaining as much momentum while carefully carrying the boy protecting him from the wind.

Sunny stared at the top as the two slowly fade. Only after they are long gone did Sunny thought of the caravan.

'Why would this man prioritize unlocking our chains... there was other adult slaves who are clearly more useful than us.' His mind lingered at the eloquent man's actions. He wasnt a temple slave but an intellectual person who became a slave.

Before the Mountain king could appear the guards' conversation was already clear the body he possessed, the temple slaves are treated with such discrimination and cruelty.

'For someone who isn't a temple slave to also be treated the same...'

*Thud*

Stumbling down, Sunny's head was constantly ringing. The dissonance extended to his vision.

"My head...? what?"

Sunny couldn't see what hit him, further looking at his left side he saw a man become a monster devouring the remaining innocence he has.
