Chapter 9 - Conflicts

The Mizukage's office was silent.

Mist clung to the tall windows, dull and unmoving. The First Mizukage sat behind his desk, hands folded, his expression calm to the point of coldness.

"Send them in."

The doors slid open.

Two shinobi entered.

Both carried blades that marked them immediately as something more than ordinary elite. One bore a long, heavy cleaver strapped across his back, its edge nicked from countless battles. The other carried a slender sword wrapped with coiled wire, the metal faintly humming with chakra.

They knelt.

"Raigen," the Mizukage said, eyes settling on the taller one."Saika."

Both bowed their heads.

"There has been movement around Uzushiogakure," the Mizukage continued evenly. "Their defenses have tightened. Go and see what they are hiding."

Raigen's hand rested casually near his sword. "You want us to infiltrate there."

"You are the two elite jonins of mist," the Mizukage replied. "I have full faith in you guys. So I couldn't find anyone else suited for this job. Learn how strong their response truly is."

Saika spoke next, voice-controlled. "And if we are discovered?"

The Mizukage looked at him.

"Then fight," he said simply. "You can easily make a retreat with your power."

A brief pause followed.

"This will be S-rank mission," the Mizukage added.

The meaning settled heavily in the room.

Raigen grinned faintly. "Understood."

As they turned to leave, his voice stopped them.

"Whether you return," he said calmly, "or whether Uzushio leaves your bodies on their shores..."

The Mizukage remained seated, staring out of the window.

A few days later, at Uzushio

Malenia was seen overseeing several younger ninjas as they trained. She was guiding them in Kenjutsu. Then suddenly something brushed her senses.

A Foreign chakra.

Two chakra signatures, sliding through the outer detection layers like blades through cloth. Skilled.

Her eyes opened fully.

A jonin appeared beside her in a flicker of movement, breath steady but tight. "Princess. Sensors just reacted. Two intruders breached the coastal barrier."

Malenia nodded once. "I felt them."

The jonin hesitated. "Orders?"

Malenia's gaze stayed fixed on the dark shoreline where the mist gathered unnaturally thick.

"Don't let them leave this land," she said. "Seal the inner routes."

"And you?"

Her grip tightened slightly.

"I'll take care of them."

She stepped forward and vanished into the night.

Far below, mist rolled in heavier, swallowing sound and distance.

.............

The first mistake the intruders made was stepping onto solid ground.

The second was moving too fast.

Raigen felt it first.

The stone beneath his foot pulsed once—sharp and sudden—and the ground snapped shut. Black sealing lines erupted outward, racing across the rocks. His leg locked in place, chakra flooding uselessly against the pressure.

"Tch—seal!" he growled.

Saika reacted instantly, wire snapping from his blade as he leapt back.

Too late.

The mist around them thickened unnaturally, and symbols burned into the air itself. A layered fūinjutsu array activated in silence—no hand seals, no warning.

Invisible walls slammed into place.

Saika's wire struck something solid and rebounded, slicing sparks through the fog.

Raigen yanked harder, muscles straining, veins standing out along his arm as he tried to force his way free. The seal responded immediately, tightening like a vise. His chakra was being drained.

"This isn't a trap," Saika said, eyes scanning the glowing symbols. "It's a prison."

The ground beneath them shifted slightly as another layer locked in.

Then footsteps.

Slow. Unhurried.

The mist parted.

Malenia stepped forward.

The sheer killing intent radiating from her made them difficult to stand still

Her presence was heavy. Red hair catching faint moonlight as she stopped just outside the sealing boundary, sword resting at her side. Her tall figure made them shit scared

She looked at them once.

"You chose the wrong enemy," she said calmly.

Raigen couldn't even utter a single word now."

Malenia raised her hand slightly.

The seals tightened.

The air pressed down, forcing both swordsmen to one knee.

"Well, you are as good as dead now anyway. Uzushio doesn't have any space for you."

Her eyes lifted to meet theirs--- She could only see fear in them.

She swung the blade in a single, fluid arc. Acceptance took them; they shut their eyes, waiting for the end. It came as a flash of absolute cold—a momentary severing of the senses—before their heads fell away from their bodies.

Then two jonin flashed behind Malenia, kneeling. She didn't look at them and said, "Clean up."

Then she wiped the blood of her sword and put it in the scabbard.
