Chapter 71: Little Seraphine
Neraxis slowly looked around the battlefield.
Then he laughed.
A deep, unrestrained laugh echoed through the ruined streets, rattling broken windows and sending a chill down the spines of every hunter standing before him.
"This is gonna be so fun…"
Seraphine Voss lowered her gaze, staring at her trembling hands.
This might be my last fight.
Her chest tightened as another thought surfaced, one she had buried deep inside.
Don't cry if I die.
Backstory
When she was little, she lived with her parents.
Warm light filled the small dining room as they sat around the table. The faint smell of rice and fish lingered in the air.
"Mom, I want more."
Her mother smiled gently.
"Coming up, little girl."
She placed another bowl of rice with fish in front of her.
Seraphine's small eyes sparkled.
"Thanks for the food!"
She ate eagerly, cheeks puffed as she chewed fast.
"Yum! That's so good! Yum yum! Hmm—ehe."
Soon, she finished and let out a long sigh.
"Ahhh… I'm full."
Her mother sat beside her, resting a hand on the table.
"Are you full, sweetie?"
"Yep."
Her mother nodded, relieved.
"Good, good. Now go to bed."
Seraphine raised her arms happily.
"Okayyy!"
She stood up, washed her hands, and walked toward her room, yawning loudly.
"Goodnight, Mom."
"Goodnight, girl."
Seraphine crawled into bed, the blanket warm against her skin. She closed her eyes, exhaustion creeping in.
I don't wanna go to school tomorrow… it's so tiring. They give us so much work…
I just wanna sleep all day.
The room was quiet.
Peaceful.
A peace she would never know again.
