Ren was starting to get tired of everything that was happening to him, and with this whole system story on top of it, he was completely lost and filled with hatred.
Ren:
"Alright, I see. You don't want to tell me."
System:
"No, it's nothing complicated. To save you from a brutal death, I reincarnated you into another world."
Ren:
"And why another world?!
System:
"Uh… it's just that I—"
Ren:
"Just that what?!"
System:
"If I hadn't reincarnated you quickly into another world, you would have died."
Ren:
"Then you should have just let me die."
(He looked away.)
System:
"Are you saying that because of your child?"
(In a serious voice.)
Ren:
"Yes. In any world, in any body, I wanted him by my side."
System:
"It was you who made the wish."
(In a low voice.)
Ren:
"I wished to go back to the past, not to end up in someone else's body. You should have been able to do what I asked."
After those words, the system disappeared in a flash.
Ren looked one last time toward the horizon from his balcony and said:
Ren:"Yes… you really should have let me die."
Then he went back to the bedroom and crouched down on his bed.
What else could he do?
Trapped in the body of an adolescent rejected by his family, he didn't know whether he would live or die. Wouldn't it be better to end it as soon as possible?
Ren had become Elijah. But what if the system was lying? Was Elijah really dead? Was he transported to another world? Would he return to his old body?
These kinds of questions kept spinning endlessly in Ren's mind.
Knock, knock, knock.
"Young master, are you alright?"
Ren:"Huh?!"
Someone was knocking at the door.
Ren:
"Yes… who is it?"
Ren was surprised but quickly regained his composure.
Voice:"Young master, it's me, the butler. I know you're sad, but you must eat something. Otherwise, I fear you may die."
Ren : *To die! I could die again! No way!*
Ren:"Oh… alright. I'll come down to have dinner."
The way servants treated their masters was something he knew very well. After all, he had been the son of a Countess, and with all of Elijah's memories, it was easy to act naturally.
Butler:"Very well. I'll see you later, then."
Ren had thought carefully. He had made a promise to take good care of Elijah's body. Now it was time to stop drowning in self-pity. The time had come to start a new life, completely different from the last one. There was no longer any question of being manipulated by the family or letting them walk all over him.
Ren stood up, looked at himself in the mirror, and said:
Ren:"I'm no longer Ren. From now on, my name is Elijah."
Initial system activation.
Poof. Lilou reappeared.
Lilou:
"Congratulations, Re— I mean, Elijah. Now you're ready to live your new life."
Elijah:"Yes, that's right. From now on, I am Elijah!"
With his newfound determination, Ren—now Elijah—was finally ready to begin his adventure.
