Chapter 7 - Lost Friends and Classmates

Heroes Training Base– Afternoon.

Library Field Area.

A library was built here for heroes(students) to read a book related to magic or history.

It was quiet.

Tall shelves where books are placed, floor was clean.

Jack and Jessica sitting across from each other at a long wooden table.

Open books lay between them.

Jessica was seriously reading history about healing skills.

Jack was flipping pages through his book halfheartedly but his eyes kept looking at her—tracing the stray lock of hair falling across her focused brow.

Finally, he broke the silence between, his voice tentative with hope.

"Jessica... Are you heading to the next training class?"

She closed her book with a soft snap,

stand from there take book, her expression was unchanging—cool and impenetrable.

"No," she replied calmly.

She gave the book to her maid to carry.

A young maid in a crisp gray uniform glided to her side, head bowed deferentially.

She took a book.

Jessica gave a faint nod and left from the library, the maid trailing like a shadow.

Jack remained rooted to his chair, eyes tracking her until the shelves swallowed her form.

He sighed heavily.

He slumping forward.

"...She's still so distant. Like I'm chasing smoke."

Suddenly—

A soft voice pierced the hush from behind him.

"Do you truly like her that much?"

It was his personal maid.

She standing poised near the table, her eyes sharp and knowing beneath a faint and enigmatic smile.

"Uh... yeah," he admitted.

He scratched his head awkwardly, blushing and said, "I really do. More than anything."

The maid looked at him for a moment, then give faintly smiled.

"...I see. Hold onto that fire, then. It might just thaw her ice someday."

She turned and walked away.

Jack felt confused.

"That was strange," he muttered.

Training Field – Same Time

On the hot sunny day practice field.

Tom doing practice in the sword field area, his shirt unbuttoned halfway through due to the intense heat of his practice and sweat leaving shimmering traces along his well-defined body.

He was practicing sword.

Slash!

The blade cut through the air cleanly.

His movements were sharp, calm and perfect.

Behind him loomed a maid in stark.

She wore a black and white uniform.

She stood there with her arms folded and watching him doing training.

Silently.

These maids are gifts from the Emperor, who take care of the heroes' every daily needs: meals prepared to perfection, linens crisp and waiting, room cleaning.

Heroes have to only focus on training.

Most boys are happy when they hear that we can have a personal maid or servant. We have to choose whether we take a boy or a girl as a personal attendant.

Everyone has their own choice. When I was choosing a personal attendant I saw her system told me she can be useful.

Everyone believed they were only personal attendants.

But I think differently...These are all spies; they have been placed here to keep an eye on us.

[Ding! Host when you are going to start the game.]

You should wait for news, I think they're about to come. He replied without looking at the system, through his mind.

We have all been here for three days now, and a lot has happened. Training Base – This training center is very large; it has been divided into several sections.

Here, every student has chosen their own major.

It's like our world college system where we choose our major subject to study, it's the same.

1. Sword Field Section.

This area was wide and open.

The ground was hard soil mixed with stone.

Wooden dummies stood in rows on the training ground.

Weapon racks held swords and shields.

Knights here trained students.

Sword fighting. Footwork. Defense. Real combat movement

The sound of metal clashing echoed every day from here.

2. Library Section.

A large building filled with books like -:

Magic books.

History books.

Monster records.

Skill manuals.

This place is quiet and calm among other 'Section'.

Students often came here to study magic or other things to read.

3. Magic Practice Section.

A wide open ground surrounded by magic barriers surrounded the whole magic section.

Students practiced spells safely.

Fire exploded due to fire magic.

Water flowed due to water magic.

Lightning cracked due to light magic.

Mages trained students how to control mana, power and accuracy.

Here also many mages teach different elements of magic like water, fire and wind.

If any student only wants to focus on one element then he takes that element as a major in magic.

4. Student Living Section.

Two large buildings stood opposite each other.

One building for boys.

Another one for girls.

Clean rooms.

Shared halls.

Training schedules on the walls.

5. Main Hall & Staff Quarters Section.

The center building is a training centre.

Used for:

Meetings. Announcements. Emergency calls

Behind it were the staff living areas.

Knights.

Generals.

Battle mages.

There is also one section always guarded. It's said that there is a monster kept after six months we are going to fight with them.

This is not different from school.

Sword Training Section – Late Afternoon

Swords whooshed through the air. Dust swirled with every stomp. Students pushed hard in training.

Suddenly—

A knight burst into the Heroes Training base. His armor caked in dirt. Face grim as stone.

He rushed to the office in-charge of Heroes Training base and shoved a sealed letter into his hands.

The General ripped it open. Eyes scanned the words fast.

His face twisted. Jaw clenched tight.

"This..." he whispered, voice cracking.

His face twisted. Jaw clenched tight.

"This..." he whispered, voice cracking.

He threw up his hand and bellowed.

"All students! Line up on the Main Hall—now!"

Through sound magic they make an announcement in the entire training centre base.

"All students should gather at the Main Hall."

Clang!

Students dropped swords on the ground.

Students stopped reading books.

Confusion buzzed like angry bees.

Students jogged into messy rows. Whispers flew.

"Why the rush?"

"Something bad?"

"I don't know?"

Jack frowned.

"Bad feeling…" he said quietly.

Jessica stands silently, her eyes serious.

Tom crossed his arms.

His gaze was cold and sharp.

Minutes later—

Heavy footsteps echoed through the hall.

A man wearing a giant in black armor strode onto the stage. The atmosphere grew thick and heavy around him.

The General and his name is Soren Vale.

Hall became silent and everyone was looking at 'Commander' him.

The General roared, "Quiet! Get a grip!"

He scanned the crowd(heroes). Face like carved rock.

"Bad news," he growled, voice deep and rough.

Students' hearts pounded fast when they hear 'bad news'.

Breath caught.

"Your classmates," he went on, "sent to the 'Research and Development Department' near the border...for work."

Pause. The wind howled in the hall.

"... They are attacked by demons. All of them are dead."

Dead silence.

Then—gasps ripped through.

"What?!" a girl screamed, voice breaking.

"No... no way, he can't die like that!" a boy choked, eyes bulging.

"Impossible! The knights were strong! How could demons easily kill them?" another yelled.

The Commander looked at them with pitty eyes.

Students were crying because they lost their friends.

Expect only three people.

Tom was looking at everyone with cold eyes.

Jessica was standing trying to keep a calm face on the surface but inside she was nervous.

Ray was angry and eyes burning flame, he looked like a true leader.

"Sorry... for my knights were not able to protect them." He said while bowing in front of them.

Ray comes in forward and says in a gentle voice, "You don't need to apologize to us, Sir. It's not your fault."

Then he looks at students and his classmates.

He say in loud voice, "And all of you it's not time of crying, it's time for revenge and kill this fucking Demon Lord otherwise we will only live in regret our rest of life."
