Chapter 13 - Blaine for Dinner

"Looks like Almin is here." Lana smiled at Blaine and looked at Kattie who moved to open the door. They introduced Blaine and Almin then went into the kitchen. Lana had Blaine help her by removing her pots from her bag. She would just keep three of them in her kitchen for future use. On second thought, this is a shared kitchen. She changed her mind and would keep them in her closet when not in use.

"So," Blaine looked at Lana, "you said it would be okay if I was in here. Care to explain?"

She shrugged, "the rules say the exceptions are for healing, meetings between family members, and meetings to develop relationships to determine potential for a 5-man team for portal outings. The stipulation is the meeting must end before 8pm."

Blaine blinked at her. "I don't recall reading that."

"In the front pocket of my bag, grab my tablet out, please."

Blaine did as asked, shocked a girl told him to go in her bag. Based on the expressions on the faces of the others, they couldn't believe it either, Dobin and Alto having just joined them.

While Lana grew and harvested food, surprising those in the room, she walked Blaine through the spot in the document that came up when he turned the tablet on. Obviously, she had most recently been viewing the rules.

Lana started pulling pea pods off the vine and handed them to her brother, who promptly taught the others how to shell peas.

"It's open, where are the rules you are talking about?"

"Clause 3. Rules regarding males in female rooms."

Lana was clearly experienced in picking peas because she was done by the time he scrolled down and had already withered her plant and grown another. She was just starting picking again when…

"Okay, I found it.

3.1. Males are permitted to enter a girl's room for healing purposes by registered healers. See 5.2 for more information.

3.2. Males may enter a female room to pick up said female and escort her. Duration of wait inside the room is not to exceed 5 minutes on phase 1, 10 minutes on phase 2 and beyond. The door must remain open for the duration of the visit.

3.3 For the purpose of preparing for familiarity in combat situations, females may have guests over regardless of gender up until 1 hour from curfew. Door must remain open for the duration of the visit.

3.4 Family members may visit up until curfew. If family is also a student, curfew still applies.

"So, we need to get Lana registered as a healer. We also need to open the door."

Kattie got up and made sure the door was wide open. Blaine scrolled down to section 5.2.

"To get her registered as a healer, she needs to perform healing in front of a qualified doctor." He looked up at Lana, "given we are in Beast Weapons together and it looks like I'm your sparring partner, how about we get you registered after we eat?"

Lana nodded as she withered another plant. "This takes so long to do inside…"

Kattie responded, "just grow in all 4 pots. I'll help harvest."

Lana nodded and did so. With all the help as people stepped up, she was able to get a pot of a nice hearty soup going on the stove. Not long after, they were able to eat. Kattie told her she would take care of the dishes so she could go with Blaine to the doctor's office about getting certified.

The two marched to the doctor's office. Doctor Tall was a short man, about 5'6" with such gentle features, he could have taught preschool. He didn't have a nurse and he looked exhausted. He heard the bell on the door ting as they entered. When he approached and noticed there were no injuries, he was confused.

"May I help you?"

Blaine responded. "During Beast Weapon's class today, Cadet Plantwell injured me but she also healed me. I was wondering if she could be registered as a healer so if it happens again or if we have a spar in the future, she can heal me without incident."

The doctor nodded and scanned her ID tag around her neck. "It says here your ability is plants. Have you figured out plant-based healing, Cadet Plantwell?"

"Some. I need a lot more studying but I can treat some degrees of bleeding, bruises and pain."

The doctor nodded, "please go into bay number 2 and treat her bruises."

Lana nodded and did as instructed. She made sure to return a pot back into her bag for this purpose. The doctor observed her carefully then made the adjustment to her ID once she was finished. "Would you mind helping me one day a week during club time? I can update your schedule to reflect it."

Lana nodded with a smile. "I could use the experience but I also need to make sure I get enough study time."

The doctor nodded. "If an issue turns up, let me know and I'll deal with it. Add me to your contacts list and I'll see you Friday, if not sooner."

Lana gulped, "how do I add you?"

Blaine chuckled, "show me your watch." He stood behind her so he could see her watch as she would to make walking her through this easier.

"Now, tap here," he gestured. "Now this button here is your messaging system. It allows you to send text messages." Blaine waited on her to open the window as a hologram floated above her watch. Soon there was a list of waiting messages for her to address.

"It looks like your friends have been trying to reach you. Who is Nis Rage?"

"My teacher…"

Blaine chuckled, "You might want to read that. You can do it later. Now, up here, there is a magnifying glass. Touch it. Now, using this keyboard icon down here," he waited for her to activate it, "type in …"

"Richard Tall," the doctor gave his full name.

She typed it in.

"Now, click his name over here in the list. Now click add friend." Lana did. There was a ding on the doctor's watch. While students could add each other, they couldn't add teachers without permission.

Blaine then reached around her, typed in his name and added himself to her friends list. "I would suggest adding your brother and your new friends as well. To see your friends list, tap here."

Lana nodded and did as she was told. Two names were listed.

"When you want to send a message, you tap the name," he demonstrated with his own. "Click here and use the keyboard to type the message." He typed thank you. "Then hit send," which he did. His watch dinged.

Lana nodded not understanding the feeling she was having with his arm around her like that. Blaine soon realized it and dropped his arm, after ensuring he completed the process.

With healing permissions granted and the doctor's contact information saved, the two marched back to the dorms. They arrived just as Sergeant Kodiak did.
