Chapter 15 - Chapter 15 – New Friends

In the kitchen, Lana grew some wheat and grains. It took her a bit, having to do this inside but eventually she had enough to make some nutrient-dense flour for flat breads. She went ahead and did the cooking portion of them, making 4 in this one batch. She then went to her bed, sat on the floor leaning against the bed and did her evening meditation.

This was Lana's charka meditation to help ground her before sleeping and balance her internal energy. It helped keep the nightmares away. She started with her root chakra, the red energy. She focused on it and allowed it to move through her. Next was her sacral chakra, orange in color. She didn't have much use of this energy so she always just acknowledged it was there and a thank you and moved on to the solar plexus, yellow energy. She allowed this energy to move around and fill her then return to its place.

Followed by the heart chakra, green energy. While she didn't have a relationship with the man she had her eyes on yet, she did use this energy to embrace the love she had for her brother, strengthening that energy while also offering gratitude for her new friends. Next, she moved on to her throat, light blue or cyan energy. Self-expression has always been a bit of a struggle, so she has tried to fill herself slowly with this energy before returning it to her throat.

Next was the third eye, blue energy. This was also an area she was not working on so she just gave it a nod after visualizing it then moved on. Last was the crown chakra. Purple. She needed the inspiration. She kept hoping that if she spent time here, she'd have dreams of new things to try with her ability. It did work sometimes.

Maybe tonight she would get lucky. Once she felt each part of her body had what it needed and she felt relaxed, the fatigue from the day began to really set in.

Unknown to her, Kattie watched her as she sat there, unmoving. Kattie was watching for facial expression changes. She did note a few and realized she might be able to benefit from this as well. Watching her roommate climb, exhausted into bed, she got up, turned off the lights and headed to bed herself. She wanted to learn and planned to ask in the morning.

Lana somehow managed a somewhat peaceful sleep despite the trip to the shrink. Somehow even though she didn't know Blaine, just having him present was calming for her.

She woke up with the sun feeling rested. She survived the night without a nightmare. Lana looked over and her roommate was still sleeping so she got up and ate more of the food left over from the previous day before sitting down on the floor for her meditation. Just as she sat down, Kattie opened her eyes and sat up quickly.

"I don't mean to intrude but is it possible for you to teach me how to do that?"

Lana was startled, "I thought you were sleeping?"

Kattie, "I'm sorry. I was laying here thinking about the merits of getting control of my emotions. You said this helped. Will you teach me?"

Lana nodded, "of course. I learned this from a book but I think it would be faster if I taught you then sending you to go searching for it."

She smiled brightly, "come sit opposite of me."

Kattie did as asked. Lana then walked her through the process then they proceeded to work with the white light. Once done, they both felt stronger. Lana explained to her how she used this energy to improve her combat prowess and on everything she grew. This specific meditation expanded a person's use of life force energy.

"Do you want to hit the shower first or can I?" Lana asked.

"Go ahead. Sven's hungry," she replied as Sven gently nudged her with his beak. Kattie chuckled, "Have some patience!" as she went to the cabinet and retrieved his food.

Once Sven was taken care of and Kattie had her shower, the boys once again appeared to take the girls to breakfast. Lana stuffed the old uniforms in her bag so she could get rid of them during lunch. Blaine and his roommates joined them at their table, Blaine insisting on sitting on her other side so she sat between him and her brother. He introduced a pale boy, 5'1l" in height but appeared fairly well-toned. His shiny dark hair was like a bowl was placed over his head and shaved where the bowl didn't touch. His name was Karlen Carpenter.

Blaine's other roommate, Chekof Starskiy, had an interesting accent as well as a rather broad body. He was built like a mountain on two legs. He was like Sergeant Kodiak if Sergeant Kodiak had been attractive. Still, the walking mountain was nothing next to Blaine's angelic beauty as Lana described it. Chekof had a boyish charm to him and sparkling green eyes. His hair was sandy brown, tied back in a ponytail.

Blaine introduced Lana and Lana introduced her friends. She did notice both boys were level-1.

"Did either of you take an ability?"

Chekof replied, "I have a transformation ability but I'm not very good yet." He demonstrated by turning his fingernail into a claw. "This is all I can manage."

Lana nodded with a smile, "That's actually pretty cool! So, you're in the transformation class then?"

Chekof nodded. He then turned his attention to his plates. Like Dobin, he seemed to like food. Unlike Dobin, both plates were filled with meat. Karlen, however, seemed to have stopped by the grill and had them just throw a raw steak on a plate for him. It was still bloody. Lana's stomach turned and she looked away.

The friends talked quietly but mostly they inhaled their food. Forming up took time and they still needed to be in class on time. This was why the school had five different dining facilities running at once. It enabled the level of proficiency they needed.

The morning was uneventful as the morning classes continued to be useful and Lana was beginning to think this place wasn't as bad as Dens warned them it was. Drill was more interesting as the person still had trouble understanding left from right. He did an about-face and he took three steps doing it. The entire class had to do pushups as punishment for loss of bearing. Some laughed so hard they were bent over, holding their stomachs.

Lana asked Kattie if she wanted to do lunch in the library and park again explaining she also needed to go to supply and return the uniforms she couldn't use. Kattie agreed since it seemed to work well. The two girls marched with no incident between places. In the library, Lana wanted to buy more pots so she could leave the ones in her bag alone. She also ordered some seasoning, sandwich wrappings and some meat.

She spent her entire 10 credits but they marched by their room to put the meat in the fridge before continuing to the next destination. Lana explained the meat was to make gyrosfor someone she was trying to form an acquaintance with. She deemed it important.

Kattie had entered the code she got from her parents and put the bedding away while Lana put the food away. The joined kitchen had two refrigerators with locks on them so they could safeguard at least their cold items.

The park was last. Lana took advantage of the situation and grew a lot of food. It was far easier to do it in a large area of dirt than in small pots. She made sure her school materials were in the smaller section and filled the bigger section to the brim. She and Kattie ate the rest raw and were stuffed by the time Sven was done. Anything not consumed was withered. Once again, they marched themselves to class. They arrived first this time and had to wait for the teacher to unlock the door.

Soon after, the bell for afternoon classes rang and everyone sat down quickly as Nis entered the room and conducted class. Lana tried to pay attention but her thoughts drifted to Blaine and his roommates. She had promised herself to give her fellow students some privacy, but she decided that she needed to start looking at the energy of the people around her.
