Chapter 87: A Step Towards Mastery
Ronin spent his time familiarizing himself with the powers of his Mangekyō Sharingan.
Amaterasu, the right-eye ability, was familiar from the manga. But the left-eye power was an unexpected revelation.
The ability of his left eye: Amenotokotachi (Celestial Stasis).
Its function was simple yet profound: it rendered a fixed volume of space within his sightline incredibly stable and rigid. In simpler terms, anything within that space was frozen, paralyzed in time!
The duration was yet to be fully determined, and the drain on his resources varied.
During the assassination of Isley, Ronin had used Amenotokotachi to lock the Spider in place for a few seconds.
However, since it was his first time using it, he had likely extended the radius further than necessary. Reflecting on the exchange, he realized the massive spike in Chakra consumption began exactly when Silva's fists entered the frozen zone.
This meant that merely "holding" a target wasn't the main drain; rather, any external force attempting to breach the stasis field caused the consumption to skyrocket.
Functional analysis: Amenotokotachi was a pure Space-Time Ninjutsu.
Ronin recalled that in Shinto mythology, Amenotokotachi-no-Kami was one of the primeval deities.
A god who respected order and stability, Amenotokotachi was a firm supporter of Amaterasu, the sun goddess. He had vowed to use his power to maintain the foundation of her rule.
It was a poetic pairing: the fire of creation and the stability of the heavens.
While the ability was elite, Ronin felt a slight pang of regret.
Compared to Celestial Stasis, he still coveted Kamui—Obito Uchiha's legendary ability. The ability to slip between dimensions and phase through attacks was the ultimate survival tool.
Still, having one canon ability (Amaterasu) and one original ability (Amenotokotachi) wasn't a bad hand to be dealt.
As for the future? He would continue fusing Scarlet Eyes. Who knew what further evolutions might bring?
September 5th.
A major incident occurred in Yorknew. The copy of Greed Island auctioned at Southernpiece was hijacked during transport.
The cargo was lost, and the entire security detail was executed.
"This smells like the Phantom Troupe," Kurapika noted, maintaining his Ren while browsing intelligence forums on his laptop.
Thanks to Ronin's Shadow Clone, their infiltration into the Mafia was seamless. Even if anyone suspected "Raymond," there were no physical cracks to exploit.
As Kurapika used Raymond's authority to consolidate resources, the two of them became firmly entrenched within one of the world's most powerful criminal organizations.
Kurapika was also quietly purging the more distasteful sectors of the gang, such as narcotics and human trafficking.
He kept the casinos and rackets—those were the traditional foundations. If you removed everything, you weren't a Mafia boss anymore; you were a saint.
Watching Kurapika work, Ronin was reminded of a certain "Golden Spirit" from another manga.
But Kurapika's rise to power was far faster.
"Uvogin is dead. Why are they still going after Greed Island?" Ronin wondered, scanning his memories for the game's rewards.
Then, a theory formed.
If the Troupe cleared the game, would they do what Gon did and take Spell Cards out into the real world?
If they got their hands on Accompany, could they find him?
He dismissed the thought. Accompany and Magnetic Force required the user to have met the target inside the game first. As long as Ronin stayed out of the console, the game's tracking systems wouldn't have his data.
Then Ronin remembered Bonolenov.
He had hit the Spider with Amaterasu. While Bonolenov survived, he was likely flayed and crippled. The Troupe might be looking for healing items like Breath of Archangel to restore him.
Ronin had a habit of underestimating Amaterasu because of its track record in the Naruto series, but in the HxH world, it was truly terrifying.
Ronin set down his comic book. "If the Troupe is entering Greed Island, does that mean they've paused their hunt for us?"
"Likely," Kurapika nodded. Sweat dripped from his chin onto the carpet.
Maintaining Ren for long periods was grueling, but it was the fastest way to increase aura capacity.
According to Ronin's standards, Kurapika wasn't "competent" until he could maintain Ren for three straight hours.
Using Miria's metrics: Kurapika needed to reach roughly 11,000 aura units to be considered a master.
Currently, Kurapika could hold Ren for about fifty minutes. That put his total capacity at roughly 3,000 units.
This was already a staggering amount for a rookie, achieved only through Kurapika's natural talent and the use of his Pinky Chain to accelerate recovery time.
But compared to Ronin...
According to Ronin's own estimates, his capacity was approaching 50,000 units.
After killing Omokage and securing those two pairs of eyes, he had reached 20,000.
The following three months of training, assisted by Kurapika's healing, added another substantial layer.
By September 1st, his base was 25,000.
Then, he secured four more pairs of eyes in Yorknew. That triggered a massive explosion in his stats.
In just five days, he jumped from 25,000 to 45,000 units.
Now, Ronin wasn't focusing on growing larger. He was focusing on refinement.
His three-month training camp had given him master-level control over his initial 20,000 units. But this sudden surge made his aura "clumsy" again.
He needed to grind his control until he could wield all 45,000 units as precisely as a scalpel.
Without that refinement, the extra aura only increased his stamina; it didn't raise his "AOP" (burst damage).
Unless, of course, he used Ninjutsu.
That was the exception. If he fought Uvogin now, Ronin was certain that even if Uvogin burrowed underground, a single Majestic Destroyer Flame would cook him into a briquette.
The version he used at the Arena covered the stage. The version he could unleash now would fill the entire stadium.
That was what a B-Rank jutsu was supposed to look like.
But he still needed to practice. Hard.
