Chapter 42: So This Is An Enhancer!
When Kurapika got off the train in Mordin City, his mind was still preoccupied with Heavens Arena.
But his worry didn't last long.
He received a text message. Although Kurapika had only left the village recently, his sharp mind and adaptability meant he had already established a small information network before leaving the arena.
The message came from a fight enthusiast who practically lived at Heavens Arena.
The text vividly described how shocking Ronin's battle with Uvogin had been.
Ronin's nicknames had evolved from "Supernova" and "Red Meteor" to "Fire God," "Flame Emperor," and "The Manipulator of Flames."
But Kurapika didn't care about the titles.
He focused on two key points:
Ronin survived but vanished. He hadn't been seen for two days.
Uvogin survived but was critically injured and rescued. Three assailants had targeted Ronin near the ring.
Kurapika noted down the descriptions of the attackers. Next time, he would recognize them instantly.
Analyzing Ronin's actions, Kurapika noticed many flaws. The plan was too idealistic.
Clearly, Ronin wasn't good at planning.
If Kurapika had been helping him, he was certain he could have bought Ronin enough time to kill Uvogin in the ring and escape safely.
What a pity.
Kurapika had also learned about Nen through various channels.
One theory stated that Enhancers, like Brother Ronin, were simple-minded and relied heavily on intuition.
Ronin's actions at Heavens Arena seemed to confirm this. His moves felt like gut reactions rather than calculated strategies.
But precisely because Brother Ronin isn't good at planning, he needs me even more!
Kurapika clenched his fist.
Brother Ronin can be the sharpest spear. My job is to ensure that spear strikes with maximum devastation.
Two days later, Kurapika picked up Ronin at the station.
Ronin was lightly disguised. Kurapika had also ditched his traditional Kurta clothes for casual wear.
They hugged immediately.
Ronin was surprised. He hadn't expected the usually reserved Kurapika from the manga to be this emotional.
"Sorry to keep you waiting," Ronin said, releasing him.
Kurapika shook his head.
"My plan was too simple. I almost got myself killed, and I failed to finish Uvogin off," Ronin admitted as they walked out of the station.
He had to admit it. He was a good fighter, but a mediocre strategist.
If he had planned better, Uvogin would be a corpse right now.
Hisoka's personality test really is accurate.
So this is what it means to be an Enhancer... all points dumped into combat, zero into scheming!
"You did well. Besides, just burning him to death would have been too easy," Kurapika said, his voice dropping. "I heard that Uncle..."
"I know," Ronin said bluntly. "Uvogin crushed his skull while chasing me."
"I'm sorry."
Ronin shook his head. "Uvogin got lucky this time. But next time, I will personally rip his head off."
"We'll do it together!" Kurapika said firmly.
"Of course. You're my tactician," Ronin said, having gained self-awareness after this fiasco.
Moreover, he preferred to focus on training. Revenge and collecting eyes required strength and money. Kurapika was smart and meticulous; leaving the planning to him was the best choice.
Chatting about everything and nothing, they arrived at the hotel Kurapika had booked.
Ronin had traveled to Mordin City using Genjutsu to bypass ticket checks, leaving no paper trail. With the hotel room under Kurapika's name, finding him would be extremely difficult.
"But it's not foolproof," Kurapika analyzed after they sat down. "If Nen didn't exist, your methods would be perfect. But with Nen, there might be tracking abilities that can pinpoint your general location."
"You're famous now. That increases the risk. The best strategy is not to stay in one place for too long."
"Or," Kurapika continued, "we set traps to detect if anyone is investigating us, then decide whether to counterattack or retreat. We must keep the initiative."
"What about using me as bait to lure the Troupe?" Ronin asked.
"Not feasible," Kurapika shook his head. "The strength you showed at Heavens Arena is enough to make them cautious. If we try a bait trap, we might end up getting eaten."
"Next time they come for you, it won't be just five people, and they certainly won't let you duel Uvogin one-on-one. They will gang up on you. How many Spiders can you handle simultaneously?"
Ronin shook his head. "One-on-one, I don't fear any of them. Two or three, I can escape. More than three... death is highly likely."
With Lightning Style Chakra Mode, Ronin was confident in his escape speed. That was why he wasn't afraid when Shalnark blocked the tunnel.
What he lacked was control over that speed and sufficient Chakra reserves. If he improved those, his combat power would skyrocket.
Kurapika's eyes lit up. "Can I learn Nen?"
He didn't just want to be a strategist. He wanted to kill the monsters who slaughtered his clan with his own hands.
Ronin understood perfectly.
"Of course," Ronin said naturally. "But we have to take it step-by-step. Building a solid foundation will let you master Nen better and go further."
Kurapika nodded heavily.
Ronin didn't subscribe to the idea that "revenge should be left to me to keep your hands clean." If Kurapika wanted blood, let him have it.
They would do it together.
Revenge wouldn't be Kurapika's whole life. He deserved a broader future.
"I told you before that I would tell you a secret once we got to Mordin City," Ronin said, his expression turning serious.
Kurapika braced himself solemnly.
