Chapter 39 - Chapter 39: Singing

It Worked!

Jasmine's eyes had been constantly staring intently at every single move of Wolfgang, so she naturally saw this unusual reaction.

She gently pushed the Bull-headed man, who was standing in front blocking her entire body, aside, so that Wolfgang could clearly and completely see the Dragon Egg that was radiating warmth in her hands.

The Dragon Egg had not hatched after all; the life inside was still sleeping soundly. Even though it possessed the aura of a dragon, it was extremely weak and fragile.

If she did not get a little closer, it would absolutely not have enough power to suppress the hunting instincts of these ferocious wild wolves.

Jasmine was actually also a little afraid; her heart was beating thump-thump as if it wanted to jump right out of her chest.

She was currently gambling with her entire life; if she won the bet, everyone would live, but if she lost the bet, there was a possibility they would all become a bloody dinner for the wild wolves.

Although Jasmine had an opportunity where she could, under the desperate path-opening protection of the guards, flee into the Dry Wood Forest, and because she had just obtained the friendship of Elvius, the other party would perhaps be willing to lend a hand so she would not get lost within the matrix of the Dry Wood Forest.

But how could Jasmine have the heart to heartlessly abandon these Slaves who were willing to use their own lives to protect her? The conscience of a modern human and the responsibility of a Lord did not allow her to do that.

Therefore, she could only gamble this one time, placing all hope on the fact that the wild wolves could be suppressed by the noble bloodline and dragon aura emitting from the Dragon Egg, and thereby retreat out of fear.

Jasmine took a deep breath, moved past the Bull-headed man, and bravely took a step forward toward Wolfgang.

Wolfgang's gloomy green beast pupils flashed with a cold light; it stared coldly at Jasmine, its mouth grinning wider to reveal white teeth, and a threatening growl emitted from its throat, yet its body was stiff, and it did not dare to pounce.

Seeing this, Jasmine felt a bit more steady in her heart; she again pushed the Dwarf in front of her away and continued to take one more step forward toward Wolfgang, narrowing the dangerous distance.

This time she was even closer to Wolfgang; one person and one wolf were in a standoff for a moment in extreme tension, but very quickly, as if dreading something invisible, Wolfgang actively retreated another distance of half a step.

The other wild wolves, which were originally in an encircling posture, also stared intently at Jasmine and the strange object in her hands.

They impatiently clawed the ground with their front paws a few times, creating deep grooves, and emitted continuous high and low threatening sounds from their throats, but they also did not dare to act recklessly and pounce anymore.

"Burn the fire bigger! Quick!" Jasmine commanded softly, her voice trying to maintain calm but still trembling slightly.

The Earth Gnome was the most clever and agile one; hearing this, he immediately hugged a large bundle of reserved firewood and threw it straight into the fire pile in front of Wolfgang.

These pieces of firewood had been wetted by the rain last night and had been drying by the fire for more than half a day; although there was still moisture inside, it did not affect their ability to catch fire.

Along with a few "crackle" popping sounds ringing out, thick smoke rose billowing from the fire pile, and then tongues of flame quickly licked onto the dry wood; the fire pile that was about to go out suddenly went "whoosh" and flared up into a larger flame, burning fiercely and illuminating the dark surrounding environment as bright as day.

"We are not your prey! Back off immediately!" Jasmine stared intently into Wolfgang's eyes, using all the strength she had in her life to shout loudly, her imposing manner overwhelming.

The other fire piles around were also quickly added with firewood by the guards; the scorching flames and blinding light caused the wild wolves nearby to be unable to refrain from retreating a few steps.

For these animals living in the darkness on this wilderness, fire was also an existence carrying a destructive power that made them fearful.

Wolfgang naturally could not understand the human language in Jasmine's words, but right when Jasmine finished speaking, a stream of invisible terrifying aura seemed to erupt from the egg in her hands, carrying the pressure of an emperor crashing into its face, causing Wolfgang to be unable to help but clamp its tail tightly between its two legs and continuously retreat; within those beast eyes that were originally cold and cruel, there were also added a few parts of trembling fear.

The situation of the other wild wolves was exactly the same as the pack leader Wolfgang; there were even wild wolves with small courage that could not withstand the pressure, unable to refrain from turning around, wanting to run away from this damned place.

"Roar!" Wolfgang seemed to still want to struggle to salvage some honor; the fat prey had arrived at its mouth, and it did not want to just give up that easily.

It turned back and barked a threatening sound at those of its same kin who wanted to retreat to demonstrate its power, trying hard to endure the invisible pressure, baring sharp fangs to threaten Jasmine, intending to risk its life to advance one step.

Jasmine had never faced a standoff at such a close distance with this kind of ferocious carnivorous beast.

Those large beasts kept in iron cages in the zoo in her past life also did not have an imposing manner of murderous intent as thick as the wild Wolfgang in front of her.

She had long been scared until her limbs were soft and limp, cold sweat breaking out and soaking the back of her shirt; she was only relying on a tenacious will that could not retreat to support herself so she did not collapse to the ground.

After all, once she revealed a trace of weakness, their group of people would be buried in the bellies of the wolves immediately.

"Ah ah ah~~~ Oh endless night~~~"

A resentful, mournful singing voice suddenly transmitted from afar, breaking the tense atmosphere.

Wolfgang, who was originally considering whether or not to endure that terrifying aura to step forward and bite off Jasmine's neck, was frightened by the singing voice until the hair all over its body stood up like hedgehog spines.

The other wild wolves were also frightened into letting out a few low "whimper" sounds full of panic.

Not only the wolf pack, but Jasmine's group was also frightened not lightly by the sudden singing voice; everyone could not help but turn their heads to look in the direction from which the bizarre sound transmitted.

They only saw that in the direction of the gloomy Dry Wood Forest, amidst several Pinkkin Trees with bizarrely twisted shapes, a patch of gloomy green will-o'-the-wisp fire was floating in mid-air abruptly.

If one's vision was good, one could even see that under the light of that will-o'-the-wisp, there was a bleached white skeleton raising high two hands full of emotion, its lower jawbone opening and closing continuously, emitting a bizarre singing sound that made people's necks feel cold.
