Chapter 92 - Chapter 92: Captain America — Five Times a Day, Two Hours Each

"Steve, I'm not an ordinary person. I'm… how should I put it…"

Polaris rubbed her short dark-green hair in frustration, clearly unsure how to express herself.

"I'm one of those people with strange abilities. The military's been hunting us down. They call us mutants."

Steve smiled softly. He reached out and ruffled her hair—half teasing, half affectionate.

"I know," he said gently. "I'm just like you. The Super Soldier Project was all about weaponizing people—turning humans into soldiers far stronger than any normal man.

The politicians and the military only keep me around to deal with situations they call unnatural.

But they've never really trusted me. They monitor everything I do. Back in World War II, they even took my blood to try and recreate the Super Soldier Serum."

As he spoke, Steve's tone carried a quiet bitterness. He didn't have to lie—his experience already made him sound like a man persecuted by the very system that created him.

Polaris looked up, her eyes filled with sympathy and recognition.

"You must have had a hard time," she said softly.

"I've learned to live with it," Steve replied with a calm smile. "After all, I've been dormant for nearly seventy years. I'm basically an antique from another century.

I'm still trying to adapt to this modern world, Lorna. You're one of the few people I can really call a friend.

And I can tell—you're a good person. We can help each other, right?"

Their eyes met. The air between them grew warmer, a subtle spark flickering in the space that separated them.

Polaris giggled softly, covering her dark-green lips with her hand, her eyes filled with a playful glint and a trace of shyness.

"Just friends?" she teased.

"Well," Steve countered with a smile, "we could be comrades too."

"Playing hard to get?"

"Maybe," she said with a smirk.

Lorna bent down and pulled a rolled-up blueprint from beneath the bar. As she spread it open on the counter, she leaned forward slightly, her graceful figure outlined under the morning light.

Steve glanced down at the plans. "A military base?" he asked.

"I worked with the Wilson Gang in New York before," she explained. "In exchange for the job, their leader—Kingpin—gave me information about my father."

Her slender finger paused on a section of the map, the glint of her green nail polish catching his eye. It seemed Lorna really liked the color green.

"Your father's name is Erik, right?" Steve asked, already guessing the truth.

Polaris nodded. "Yes, his name is Erik. He attacked a military general and was imprisoned afterward.

I'm not completely sure if he's really my father, but I want to find out. My mother passed away, and before she died, she made me promise to find him—and to visit her grave once I did."

Her voice trembled slightly. Tears gathered in her eyes as she spoke.

She had grown up with her mother and had never known her father. Yet, her mother always spoke of him as a great man.

If not for that last wish—and her own desire to know her father—she would never have gotten involved in something so dangerous.

Breaking into a military base to rescue someone wasn't exactly easy.

"Edith, scan for information on this base," Steve ordered.

"Roger that, Master," the AI responded immediately.

S.H.I.E.L.D.'s database was heavily encrypted and built to withstand massive cyberattacks. But with Maria Hill and Sharon Carter having granted access permissions, Edith could move through the system freely.

If there was digital data about the base, she would find it.

"Don't worry," Steve said reassuringly. "I'll help you. First, we'll gather intel on the base, then form a plan.

But there's one condition—you must follow my lead and not act on impulse. Otherwise, we'll both end up in prison."

Polaris felt a surge of gratitude. The mutant group she'd been with had refused to help her. Most of them disagreed with her decision and had left her to face things alone.

Now, Captain America himself was offering to help.

"Steve… are you really willing to do this for me? Why?" she asked softly.

She wasn't naïve. She'd learned to survive from a young age. At first, she'd planned to use her charm to win his support. But now, after hearing him speak and seeing his sincerity, she felt something real stirring inside her.

Few women could truly resist Steve Rogers' charisma. Unless he was their sworn enemy, most would find themselves drawn to him.

Steve smiled slightly. "I have one flaw—I'm fickle. But I also have one redeeming quality—I take responsibility."

The answer made Polaris laugh. She tilted her head, eyes gleaming with mischief.

"You have a lot of girlfriends, don't you?"

"There are a few," Steve admitted honestly. "I plan to marry them this year. I don't want to be a scumbag, and I don't believe in casual relationships.

To me, you either start with the goal of marriage—or you don't start at all. Maybe that's why Tony keeps calling me old-fashioned."

He shrugged helplessly.

Polaris burst out laughing. "Not many men these days have your kind of 'old-fashioned charm.' Even my father couldn't compare."

She covered her mouth, smiling brightly.

"Steve, I've met plenty of men. Most of them only ever wanted one thing—my body.

But you're different. Even knowing you have other women, I can't bring myself to dislike you.

Still, I have to ask—why did they agree to that?"

Steve chuckled and raised his chin proudly.

"I train for two hours each time—five times a day. They couldn't keep up, so they agreed."

Polaris stared at him, wide-eyed.

This was, apparently, the other benefit of being the original Super Soldier—enhancements that no imitation serum could ever match.
