"Ugh," Raj muttered as he suddenly appeared in a new location and nearly lost his balance from dizziness and nausea.
This was his first time experiencing Teleport from a Pokémon's ability, and he had not expected it to feel so uncomfortable.
He remembered that the Teleport used by Sabrina's father at the Saffron City Gym had not felt like this at all. Perhaps there was a difference between human Psychic abilities and Pokémon Psychic abilities.
Either way, this experience was terrible.
"Oh it looks like another weakling has arrived, the competition hasn't even started and he's already about to throw up, this won't do," someone mocked loudly as laughter spread through the crowd.
Raj raised his head and looked around, realizing he had arrived somewhere unfamiliar.
Most of the people around him appeared to be about his age, with only a few slightly older participants.
They stood in small groups of two or three, forming their own circles while watching him with mocking expressions.
So many people.
Raj narrowed his eyes and quietly observed everyone present. Although most gathered in small groups, three individuals stood out clearly, with many others surrounding them while keeping a respectful distance.
"These three must be the strongest among them," Raj thought calmly. "Anyone they are cautious around must be powerful, and there could even be hidden dark horses here, so I need to stay careful."
With that thought, Raj ignored the mockery and found a quieter corner where he sat down and closed his eyes to rest.
Nothing would be more satisfying than winning first place and making them regret laughing at him.
Laugh while you can.
Tomorrow you might not be laughing anymore.
As time passed, more participants continued arriving and the space gradually became crowded.
After a while, a sudden sound echoed across the arena.
A figure appeared instantly on the high platform above.
Everyone's attention shifted upward.
After looking around at the gathered Trainers, Apollo smiled with a cruel expression.
"Very good I did not expect so many people to qualify it is truly rare but do not get ahead of yourselves because since ancient times second place has only existed to highlight first place and among all of you only one person can win so show your strength and fight to your heart's content because I am looking forward to your performances," Apollo said coldly.
"I am your chief examiner for this competition my name is Apollo and I advise all of you not to attempt tricks in front of me because if I catch anyone breaking the rules then you already know what will happen."
After speaking, Apollo released a Salamence.
"[System, check its information]," Raj requested silently.
"[Salamence, Dragon and Flying type Pokémon. Salamence becomes extremely violent in battle and can cause large-scale destruction when enraged. After finally gaining the wings it long desired Salamence often flies continuously while breathing Flamethrower across the battlefield. Combat Power: 4500. Known moves: Hyper Beam, Dragon Claw, Dragon Breath, Flamethrower, Fly, Hurricane, Dragon Dance, Psybeam]," the system reported.
Raj narrowed his eyes slightly.
Apollo was indeed powerful and if he remembered correctly Apollo was one of Giovanni's top commanders inside Team Rocket.
If what Zaobo said was true and Kenji was the hidden leader behind Team Rocket, then why would Giovanni's subordinate be supervising this competition instead of Kenji's own trusted agents.
Something about this situation felt wrong.
"Registration and drawing lots begin now the competition will officially start tomorrow at noon," Apollo announced.
After clapping his hands, a mechanical sound echoed and a box slowly descended from above.
"Come up one by one to register and draw your number anyone who causes trouble will be disqualified."
"I'll go first," a confident young man stepped forward immediately.
He wrote down his name and drew a white number card.
After that, everyone followed one by one to register and draw their numbers.
Raj waited until only a few people remained before calmly walking forward.
He wrote down a fake name.
He did not trust anyone here, including Zaobo.
After drawing his card, Raj looked down.
Number Six.
Not bad.
Seeing Raj still smiling, the same young man who mocked him earlier spoke again with disdain.
"You're still smiling you will probably be eliminated tomorrow weaklings should know their place."
As soon as he finished speaking, many people nearby turned to watch Raj again.
Even Apollo showed slight interest.
Raj's expression darkened.
A moment later, Haunter silently appeared behind the young man and placed its claws against his neck.
The young man froze completely and did not dare move.
Raj slowly walked forward.
"You should be glad fighting is not allowed here otherwise things would end very differently," Raj said calmly as he made a throat-cutting gesture.
"If you do not have the strength then do not provoke others especially when you are this weak," Raj added before turning away.
Everyone's expressions changed immediately.
They quietly withdrew their earlier arrogant attitudes.
This opponent was clearly not someone easy to deal with.
"And all of you should also stop looking at me like that otherwise," Raj said as he paused briefly and glanced back.
He did not finish the sentence.
He did not need to.
Everyone understood.
"We know you are strong but you do not have to act like no one here can challenge you," several people muttered silently in their hearts.
"Alright if you want to fight there will be plenty of opportunities tomorrow now each of you choose a room to rest anyone who stays here and makes trouble will be disqualified," Apollo said coldly.
Everyone immediately dispersed to find their assigned rooms.
Raj glanced at Apollo speechlessly.
Why does he threaten disqualification every time he speaks.
After that, Raj also found a room and prepared to rest before the intense battle that would begin tomorrow.
