Chapter 10 - Chapter Ten

Kael's POV

Earlier…

The air whizzed past me, as I dashed into the forest, the sounds of paws hitting the dirt loud.

Beside me, my bothers ran, flanking both sides, a crazed glint in their eyes.

Howls ripped from our mouths, excitement buzzing through my vein as we chased a man running away from us.

The panic and fear rolling off him, filled the air, hitting our noses and making us giddy.

~ Don't these pathetic wolves know their fears fuel us even more?

Kane, my wolf mused, his thoughts quickly interpreted in my mind.

I huffed, saying nothing as we drew closer to the man.

I could already tell my brothers were tired of playing with him, so we decided to end it.

With an added burst of energy to my hind legs, I pounced on the man, sending him toppling to the ground heavily, my weight crushing his bones as he screamed in terror.

"No—! Please!" He cried, but I barely listened to him.

My brothers quickly stopped before us.

I climbed off his back, moving to the side and letting my brothers finish him.

His cries were soon drowned out, and I didn't bother to look. I could already tell with the smell of blood in the air, that the sight was brutal.

One of my brothers, Lucen nudged me with his head.

He was worried about me, but I didn't want him to worry.

Born to a powerful bloodline, we were already cursed at birth.

Having too much power than our bodies could handle made us feral.

From the time of our grandfather, the Grey family was a terrifying force that wasn't to be trifled with.

As his descendants, we were the strongest to be ever born into the house, but those powers came with concequences, hence the blood moon hunt was born.

Everyone sent into the forest was deemed evil of the evil, and deserved a fate words than death.

Not once have we killed the innocent, but yet rumors spread.

I huffed, signaling my brothers to move so we can continue.

As the eldest and most rational one, it was my duty to keep my brothers in check.

Lucen and Draven followed my cue, and we trotted deeper into the forest in search of new people to hunt.

Being at the front, I kept my senses sharp, ears peeled out for the next unfortunate soul to torture when a faint scent caught my nose.

I froze, ears pointed out as I sniffled deeply wanting to catch that magical scent again.

My brothers growled beside me, but I ignored them, focusing on my nose.

What is that? I asked Kane.

Kane on the other hand, had gone silent, only his faint presence could I feel in the back of my mind.

However, he was just as confused as I was.

Suddenly, I felt it again.

This time, it was a pull. One so strong, it had me jerking forward in a wild dash.

My paws dug into the earth, and every distance that drawed me closer to that thing had my body shaking in delight.

Lucen and Draven were confused, but they chose to run along side me.

The path was quiet, dense and thick tress all lined and scattered around the area.

In the middle, stood a lithe figure of a girl, her skin covered in dirt and grim I could hardly tell the colour.

Still it was from her this heavy pull and scent came from.

She looked around in panic, her wide eyes, darting around as she shook in fear.

A human?

The thought had barely settled when my brothers stopped beside me, confusion evident as they stared at her.

Soon, like me, my brothers felt it.

"Mate!"

My brother Lucen growled, rushing forward before I could stop him.

Draven and I stiffened, our eyes widening in equal shock.

What?

I frowned, wolf-like brows tilted as I asked Kane show huffed frustrated in my head.

No wolf.

Kane huffed.

So that means our mate is a human?

No. Wolfless. He snarled, and I felt the annoyance slipping in his tone.

Was this a mistake?

I looked towards her, but the hum of the bond thrummed loudly. Beating. Alive and well there.

Lost in our thoughts, we failed to notice a group wonder in.

I snarled at them, but that was enough distraction that gave our mate the chance to run.

We growled, chasing after her, the thrill of the hunt rushing through our veins once more.

Once we were close enough, she ran towards a slope, falling to the ground.

Like a smoke, she slipped past our grasp, hiding in that stupid bunker that had been abandoned.

We growled, frustration wrecking through our bodies with no where to vent when that foolish group showed up again, chatting and laughing like they owned the place.

What irked me the most, was their words. Somehow, I knew they were talking about our mate, and that did not sit right with us.

Instantly, my brothers and I turned to face them.

They were foolish, so they had to pay the price.

"Who—?"

One man was quick to notice us, but it was too late.

Screams cut through the air, as we quickly tore them to shreds.

Satisfied, we turned to face our mate, but her fear made us hesitate.

Lucen however, bravely went in, shifting at once.

..

Now, crouching beside our mate's naked and uncouncious form, I frowned.

Draven and Lucen, still bathed in her pheromones, wished to press on, but I growled at them.

"Stop. She's already unconscious."

Draven was stubborn. "I have a boner Kael. How do you expect it to go away?"

"Ignore it." I said, with a final air, picking her up, her body surprisingly light.

Again, my brows dipped, and I looked at her sleeping face.

Were humans this light?

My mate practically weighed nothing in my arms.

She felt so delicate and fragile, that even the slightest touch could break her.

Maybe this was the reason she passed out from bring fingered with only two of Draven's fingers in her.

"Let's go. We have much to do waiting for us at home." I said, carrying her with me.

Lucen and Draven both groaned, but they joined me, both of them quickly changing into their wolf forms.

I clutched my hand tighter around my mate's form, my mind still in disbelief.

Finally. We had a mate.

No more crazied hunts, no more rumors, no more pain.

She was ours and that meant we were hers whether she liked it or not.
