Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Three Dream Gu

"Didn't think I'd be back here so soon! I'll probably visit the library a lot more often in the future. Compared to the few visits before, I might even have to book a private cabin or something, heh." Fu Xian couldn't help thinking as he entered the main library on the Azure Cloud Island once more.

He had just been here a few weeks ago, and now again. Other cultivators might not visit the library in years…

Anyways, he didn't focus on that and looked for a seat, then raised his brush, about to write, when he suddenly thought of something "What should I look for?"

His mind stirred 'Teigu's situation is special. He doesn't have a Gu yet, which is the basis for starting Gu cultivation, and most arts even require a specific kind of Gu – Heart Gu, Brain Gu, Worm Gu, Insect Gu, Poison Gu… all these kinds of Gu are often the foundation of Gu sects or tribes, with deep inheritance.

It seems that to enter this path, the requirement for inheritance is even higher than entering other paths…

Well, let's try out this instead…'

As he thought so, he wrote "Gu cultivation art, No Gu required, No Resources required"…

He only wanted to try it out, not expecting anything to pop up… but suddenly, the scroll unfurled and a single art was revealed: Nightmare Origin Gu Art – Transcendent.

Curious yet also perplexed about such an Art that was not only of an extremely high quality yet even required so little, Fu Xian instantly focused and slowly understood what this art was about…

"This one really seems to be fitting. Actually, rather than saying it's a Gu art, it would be better to say it's a Dream Summoning Art that has been changed to specifically summon Dream Gu, more specifically, Nightmare Gu.

There are countless dream beasts and among them are also Gu, so it's understandable… but it seems like it's a bit of a lie. The only reason it doesn't require resources is because this art in and of itself isn't a complete art – you need to get a separate summoning book! This art only has a catalogue of all Nightmare Gu, but to find the specific one, you have to look into the library and see if it's available!

Heh, in the end, I have to pay extra!

What a scam! You separate a cultivation art into two! Although factually, you can cultivate this art without having a Gu, and it even has the basic summoning ritual, who would dare to use this ritual? The Gu you get will be random, it's strength can't be controlled, and it might even kill you. Worst case, it will escape from you and cause havoc, which means losing out for no reason.

If you don't get a specific summoning book, you might as well not get the art, since it'll only drive you to die.

Alright, since this art is here, there better be summoning books too!"

As he said so, he deleted the text he wrote with a single swipe, then searched "Dream Gu Summoning Ritual". He didn't need to read the catalogue contained in the cultivation art, anyways he was in the library already, so why would he have to buy it to get it? He could just look it up.

Just as he suspected, the results were astounding: over a hundred!

"Hmph, this is just a senior who's doing his best to scam juniors." Although he said this, he wasn't really angry. Instead, he curiously checked out one Gu after another.

He spent an hour to skim through them all in total, only skimming, because the information contained a lot of useless text, with long descriptions. He focused on key points: whether the summoning required specific resources, what the summoned Gu could do, and whether further evolution is possible.

After all, the real core of the book was the summoning ritual, the rest was somewhat described in the introduction. Some even directly stated the requirements.

Filtering some, Fu Xian finally took out three summoning books that stood out:

[Dream Light Firefly Gu]

[Devouring Nightmare Frog Gu]

[Seven Nights Crimson Butterfly Gu]

The first Gu was a firefly type Gu, but it was a special Gu. It had low requirements, only needing to be performed on a sleeping person. The ritual would then absorb the ethereal Dream Light from the person, killing them in the process, and manifest a Firefly from the light.

This Firefly could be stored by the Gu master to aid his cultivation while the dream inside the firefly will slowly be solidified. After solidification, the Firefly can be cast towards enemies, pulling them instantly into the dream, where they have to experience the dream until their essence nurtures the dream or they destroy the dream.

Notably, this summoning ritual has the special ability to summon many Dream Light Gu! After the Dream Light Firefly solidified fully, you can add another one. This way, you can go as far as to trap a single cultivator into several dreams, slowly eat away at his soul!

"Low cost and high performance! The only flaw is the long gestation period and the fact that these fireflies are Consumables in their initial stages, requiring long investment and many resources to grow stronger.

This Gu is more like a secondary art, also strong, but not supposed to be the Innate Gu."

Although he didn't plan to use it as the Innate Gu of his clone, he thought he might use it later on, as it was truly a good art.

"The second Gu, Devouring Nightmare Frog Gu, is a bit difficult. Although it is extremely strong, able to instantly devour the dreams of the cultivators, it has a major flaw: strong offense but weak defense. At least the Firefly Gu has the ability to constrain enemies, which is like a semi-defense. But this Gu is focused on offense, with virtually no defense.

Well, maybe I could get this one later too."

Then he focused on the Gu that really stood out: Seven Nights Crimson Butterfly Gu!

This Gu was actually a dual curse and dream Gu!

Seven Nights – curse a person and they will experience seven nights of nightmare, at the last night, their soul will be absorbed by the Gu, strengthening itself!
