Lin Feng made his way through the dormitory building, checking the room number on his phone.
He stopped in front of a door and knocked.
A few seconds later, it swung open. A young man stood there, eyes widening the moment he saw Lin Feng holding a bag.
"It really came?" He turned back inside. "Guys! Get over here!"
Lin Feng had noticed something interesting about the orders. Four out of five had come from this single room. It seemed like a group of friends testing whether the service was actually legitimate.
Three more faces appeared at the doorway, curiosity written all over them.
Lin Feng reached into his bag and pulled out the items - three drinks and two instant noodle cups.
"No way," one of them muttered. "It actually showed up."
"Thanks for being our first customers," Lin Feng said with a polite nod. He held up his phone, displaying a QR code. "You can scan here to pay."
The one at the front took the items and scanned the code with his phone. His eyebrows shot up.
"It really is cheaper," he said. "No weird extra charges either."
The others quickly scanned as well, confirming among themselves.
"It really is."
"Huh. Legit."
One of them looked at Lin Feng with curiosity. "Are you guys actually doing this for real?"
Lin Feng nodded. "We are. Though since we also have classes, our delivery windows are pretty inflexible. That's why we charge less. You can check the app for available times."
"Who cares about inflexible deliveries?" another one chimed in, his eyes lighting up. "If I order noodles now for dinner, I can have them delivered to me in the evening after classes. And it's cheaper too!"
Lin Feng smiled.
Looks like we've secured our first loyal customers.
"Thank you for your support," he said, giving them a small bow. "We appreciate it."
He turned and headed down the corridor.
Once outside, he raised his phone and checked the last order.
Now for this one...
...
After greeting the guard at the entrance and explaining his situation, Lin Feng passed through the gate into the girls' dormitory complex.
Who would've thought the last order would be from here.
He looked around as he walked, taking in the unfamiliar surroundings. The building layout was similar to the boys' dorms, though much more cleaner and organized.
He encountered a few girls in the corridor who greeted him casually as they passed. He nodded back politely. They continued on their way, chatting among themselves until they disappeared around a corner.
Seems like it's not that unusual for guys to be here.
That made him relax a little.
This was actually his first time setting foot in the girls' dorms - even in his previous life. While other guys came here often to visit their girlfriends, he had never gotten the chance. He had been too focused on studying.
Not that it really mattered now.
Hmm. I think this is the place.
He checked his phone to confirm the room number, then knocked on the door.
"Coming!" A soft voice called from inside.
Lin Feng felt a flicker of recognition.
That voice...
The door opened, and a familiar face appeared before him.
"Class monitor?" he spoke up in surprise.
"Ah, Classmate Lin," Sun Xiao said, equally surprised.
Lin Feng pulled out the item from his bag - just a bottle of water - and held it up.
"Did you order this?"
She nodded, reaching out to take it. "Yes, that's me."
As she scanned the payment code, she tilted her head slightly.
"I didn't know this was Classmate Lin's business."
"Well, it's more like our business," he said. "Me and my roommates. It's nothing serious - just testing the waters for now."
"That's also…" She was about to say something when another voice cut in.
"Class monitor? Lin Feng?"
The two of them turned.
Su Yue stood a few steps away, looking between them with evident surprise.
"Morning," Lin Feng greeted.
"Morning," she replied, walking closer. "I didn't expect to see you here." Her gaze shifted briefly to Sun Xiao, then back to him. "What brings you to the girls' dorms?"
"I had some business here," Lin Feng said casually.
"Business?" Su Yue raised an eyebrow.
"That's right. Me and my roommates started a small delivery service." He shrugged. "You should check it out sometime."
Recognition dawned on her face. "Ah…so that was you guys doing the surveys."
"Yeah." He nodded.
He turned back to Sun Xiao. "You were saying…"
"Ah, it's nothing." She shook her head with a small smile. "Thanks for the delivery. I won't take up too much of your time." She gave a slight wave. "See you in class."
With that, she stepped back inside and closed the door.
Lin Feng turned to leave when Su Yue spoke up again.
"Are you still doing deliveries?"
He glanced at her. "No, I think I'm done for the day."
"Great." She smiled. "Want to walk to class together?"
He checked the time on his phone.
"Sure."
The two of them fell into step and headed out together, chatting away casually.
…
[Infinite Money System]
[Total System Balance: ¥1,090.00]
[Available System Balance: ¥1,090.00]
[Personal Balance: ¥5,980.00]
Lin Feng dismissed the system with a thought.
He had received payment the day before, but it hadn't recharged the system balance. After some consideration, he understood why.
Maybe it's because it's not officially recognized as my money. I was just holding onto it.
It seemed they couldn't use his personal account as their pseudo-business account and have the money contribute to his system balance. That was a shame.
Still, it revealed something important. There was another condition for making money contribute to the system balance. It had to be recognized as his money in addition to being earned by him.
Depending on how this applied in practice, it could become problematic.
He decided to think about it later. For now...
"Let's talk about the launch day," he said.
The others immediately tensed up, their expressions growing serious.
Lin Feng looked around at them.
"We each managed to get five orders during our delivery windows," he began. "That's fifteen orders in total. Zhang Wei also worked extra hard and fixed all the bugs we discovered."
He paused.
"I have to say..."
They all held their breath.
"For a first day, it's not that bad."
The collective exhale of relief was almost audible.
"Now we just have a few things to work on," he continued, turning to Zhang Wei. "First, fix the payment issue."
At launch, they had allowed people to order items and pay upon delivery. But this was inconvenient and made tracking money difficult. Lin Feng had suggested this approach for the first day specifically to build trust.
Now that customers had seen their faces and interacted with them directly, they wouldn't think much about having to pay online during ordering. After all, that's how most similar apps functioned.
As for those who hadn't seen them or didn't trust them yet - it didn't matter. They could rely on word of mouth from recurring customers. They might see a dip at first, but he was sure it would pick up.
"Think you can get it ready?" Lin Feng asked.
"No problem at all," Zhang Wei said. "It was already there. I just disabled it at your request, so it's just a toggle."
He typed something into his laptop.
"Done," he said. "Some orders made through the legacy system will still require payment after delivery, but there aren't that many of them. You guys just have to keep those in mind. Once they're cleared, everything will follow the new system."
"Good," Lin Feng nodded.
