'An attack?!' Fumi thought to himself, grabbing his ear in pain.
'But from who?"
'Is it someone I know? Or someone who knows me from my lost memory?!'
'Who am I?!'
Acting quickly, Fumi sent several punches at the small cube as it dodged every single one. "Uryaaaaah!" he screamed, sending more jabs toward the cube, now seemingly moving 3x faster than before. The cube dodged every single hit coming from Fumi. It was as if its whole purpose was to pursue and subdue Fumi, but why?
The cube came at Fumi again moving in crazy lines like a mosquito that is totally out of control. Fumi ducked down under the cube. It went by so close that the air moving behind it brushed against his hair. The cube hit the ground. Bounced across the pavement making three quick tapping sounds then it jumped back up into the air like it had special springs inside it. "Can you just calm down?" Fumi said. Then he yelled "CAN YOU CHILL?!" Fumi yelled loud as he ran down the street. He jumped over a curb. The cube flew by his ankle it was so close it almost hit him. The cube missed Fumi by a little bit.
He ran fast between two cars that were parked on the side of the road and the cube was still coming after him. The cube was really good at catching up to him. Every time he thought he had gotten a bit ahead the cube would suddenly move really fast and hit something near him like a mailbox or a stop sign or even a window of a store. Then it would bounce back. Come at him even faster. Fumi. Almost fell when the cube went flying past him and cut his side a little bit. It was not trying to hurt him much. The cube just kept coming after him. That was really scary. The thing was trying to tag him. It just kept doing it. Over and over and over the thing was trying to tag him.
Fumi said "Alright screw this." and then he did something cool. He flicked his hand out behind him. This tiny blue ball showed up just floating there in the air. It looked of like a cloud. The big cube came at him again. The blue ball touched it for a tiny moment, which was just enough to throw the cube off a bit. The cube did not stop it was still coming for Fumi. It was not moving as fast as it was before. The cube got all wobbly in the air. It had to take a moment to get itself together again. Fumi used this time to run really fast down the alley. The cube was still after him. Fumi had a little head start now. He glanced back and saw it locking onto him again, vibrating like it was getting annoyed. "You have got to be kidding me." he groaned, picking up speed as the cube screeched toward him again, faster than before.
Suddenly, the cube multiplied into two, then four, then eight, and so on. "What the-" Fumi said as a hoard of small cubes rushed him and overwhelmed him. They all made cuts, bruises and even punctures in his body. "D-Dammit! What am I, Fumi, meant to realistically do in a situation like this? I can't do... anything, can I?" he said to himself as he he continued to be swarmed by these cubes from hell. But that's when it clicked. "Oh, right!" he said, creating slightly less than 100 spheres that engulfed each individual cube and held them captive. "Now, send them far, far away!" he said, pointing a finger out of the back streets and onto the main road, making the bubbles go in that direction, taking the cubes with them.
Fumi sat there for a moment, processing what just happened to him. He looked at the wounds he got from the cubes, nothing serous, but they did sting, and kind of itch a little.
"So..." Fumi said, slowly standing up and beginning to walking around.
"This is what the back streets of Atami look like, huh?"
As he walked down the back streets, he noticed several small ramen joints. "Mmm, nothing like a tasty ol' cup of ramen. I would love some right now, but I ain't go any money! And I'm being pursued by some floating cubes or whatever." Fumi said, continuing to walk down the quiet and cosy street. "I'll bet that stunt I pulled earlier with all those spheres costed me all of my Synergy..." he said to himself while walking.
He just kept walking, his eyes drifting about. The ground was a bit uneven in this part of the place, with small dips, cracked tiles that seemed to have never been fixed. Two vending machines hummed along a wall, shining brightly like they were trying to prove how important they were. He stopped before a vending machine, transfixed on a can of melon soda that seemed to beckon him. "Man. if only I had. 140 yen." he muttered, restlessly leaning his forehead on the glass before managing to tear himself away.
In the distance, he saw a small alleyway dog, the kind that was scrappy and had the ridiculous eyebrows that seemed to be judging you. The dog looked at Fumi with his head cocked to the side, as if trying to understand why he smelled of danger and ramen noodles at the same time. "Stop looking at me like that," Fumi whispered. The dog blinked at him and turned to walk away. "Oh, I understand. And I don't care," the dog seemed to be saying.
Fumi pressed further inside, passing a laundromat with the door cracked open. The washing machines inside were whirring like they were in some kinda race. One of them was shaking so bad it would've just been easier if it simply evolved into a whole new creature. "Yeah… that's definitely gonna explode someday," he whispered. The warm air wafting from the dryers felt kinda nice, though. It caressed his cold arms, making the cuts sting a bit less. For a second, he stayed there enjoying the little moment of peace before pressing further on.
He then looked over to his right to see an elderly couple sitting together on a bench, both eating a sandwich. With a friendly wave, Fumi kept walking down the back streets. He observed the wild life present in the back streets, noticing two butterflies, one yellow and one pink, cross his eyesight. It made him forget about the danger and predicament he was in.
"Boy, wanna buy some ramen? It's 1,000 yen per cup!" an old man who was running a small ramen shop said to Fumi, waving his hand at him. "U-Uh... no thanks, old man. Thanks for the offer though, it smells super yummy! But uh, I have no money right now, so sorry about that." Fumi said, waving his arm at the old man. "Ah, I see. That's fine. But uh, sonny, you seem to be bleeding profusely. Is everything all right?" the old man questioned Fumi, seeing if he was okay.
"Huh? O-Oh yeah! I'm done fine, thanks for asking old man! I'll come back to your shop later with some money, okay? Thanks, bye!" Fumi said, slightly jogging. "I wonder who's Inertia this belongs to... Could it be Ren? Or possibly that Gumpei guy I met not too long ago..." Fumi said as he saw a slightly opened door. "Huh... someone should shut that." he said, walking up to it and grabbing the door knob. As he opened the door to check what was inside, he saw all of the cubes huddled and forming a shape.
"S-Shit!" he said as the cubes took the form of a purple car and drove at Fumi, probably hitting speeds up to 80 km/h.
"So this is the true extent of its power..." he said as the car raced towards him, the engine roaring in the atmosphere.
