Chapter 4 - Chapter Four – Female Assassin

As Seku and Avari approached the husk nest, they drew their weapons in preparation to face the beasts that were located inside that nest.

Seku took out a three-section staff that he mainly uses when he was training with his siter, while Avari brandished two daggers charged with core energy from the demons she had previously defeated in battle.

"All our weapons are prepared and positioned for us to engage in combat big sister," Seku remarked with a joyful tone in his voice, eager to confront his first husk.

"Are you certain you are ready, Seku?" Avari inquired with a maternal tone, concerned that he might not be prepared and wishing to protect him from harm in battle.

"I'm ready but are you ready to fight, big sister?" Seku asked as he secured the three-section staff around his neck and crouched down, bracing himself to sprint.

"Yes, I am ready; let us eliminate these hollow bastards now," Avari exclaimed as she began to charge forward with incredible speed.

"Wait, I'm not ready yet," Seku complained as he started to rush after Avari.

"If you're not ready, then just stay here until I require backup," Avari replied, leaving Seku to observe from a distance.

"What was I thinking by bringing him along with me if I was aware he would not be of any assistance? I should have taken him back to mother," she reflected as she hurriedly made her way to Husk's nest.

Upon entering the husk's nest, she noticed that all 100 husks present were also asleep, but as soon as she landed, they all awakened.

"Shit, I suppose I must manage this alone; I can no longer sense Seku, and that is concerning," Avari remarked with a scoff as she assumed her fighting stance.

Two of the husks charged at her, but Avari vanished and reappeared, leaving the heads of the two husks on the ground, their cores destroyed, indicating that two husks were dead.

"Two down, ninety-eight more to go; I must win for Seku's sake," Avari stated, now beginning to sweat profusely as she realized the need for caution.

She then zigzagged past three husks attempting to attack her and swiftly decapitated them, but they did not perish since she needed to destroy their cores.

Avari then leaped over a fire attack launched by one of the husks launched at her.

"God damn it, this one possesses a blood art; this is not good," Avari gasped, as this revelation was also new to her.

She subsequently discarded her two daggers upon noticing five additional husk beasts advancing towards her. Avari then extended her hand and invoked, "Crimson Inferno Burst."

As she uttered this incantation, a massive sphere of flames intermingled with blood materialized, which Avari directed towards the twenty husks obstructing her path.

"I suppose I am no longer at my peak, am I now?" Avari remarked, panting heavily due to the significant drain on her energy from that attack she just release onto the husks.

Currently, there are approximately sixty-eight husks remaining in this nest that Avari must eliminate, or she risks losing her life.

Suddenly, a swift husk appeared next to Avari and attempted a roundhouse kick aimed at her ribs; however, she successfully blocked the strike and seized the creature's arm.

She then hurled the husk against the wall of the nest, and as the beast collided with the surface, Avari swiftly appeared beside it and struck the core of the husk.

Upon landing her punch, the husk ignited in flames, a result of her blood art that had been infused into the blow.

The husk was subsequently reduced to a heap of ashes at her feet. Avari stood triumphantly above the remnants, laughing maniacally.

"That was close; I must learn to anticipate these husks as they are on par with the Aristocracies," Avari remarked cautiously, now aware of the dangers of underestimating them.

Another husk emerged above her, but she evaded it by sidestepping, then retaliated with a kick to its face before piercing its core.

"Forget underestimating them; I might just do that since they fall after just a few hits anyway," Avari said with a smirk as she began to emit a faint glow.

She then scoffed and charged at lightning speed towards the nearest husk, but as she moved, one of the husks in the corner of the nest severed her arm.

Blood gushed forth as Avari screamed at the top of her lungs, "OH MY GOD, MY ARM, YOU BASTARD!!!!"

She quickly regained her composure as she regenerated her arm, since it was not her primary core.

Avari's cloudy grey eyes began to shine bright as she transformed into her true demon form, sporting two horns on either side of her head; her power surged tenfold as she felt the energy swell within her soul.

"Let us finally get serious now, I can't hold anything back anymore," Avari declared, cracking her knuckles in preparation to unleash her full strength for the first time.
