Chapter 17 - 016: Android 16

This detector, which looks similar to the dragon radar, was modified by Bulma based on the Frieza Force's scouter.

It can detect abnormal energy fluctuations and computer network nodes.

The detector in Gohan's hand has pinpointed nearby computer signal waves.

In this desolate Great Gobi Desert, computer network fluctuations have appeared, which is clearly abnormal.

Gohan, holding the detector, headed toward it.

A few minutes later, he descended from the sky and gazed at the cavern before him.

The cavern was highly concealed, surrounded by dense shrubs that obscured its entrance.

Without Gohan's detector, this spot would have been hard to locate.

Gohan raised his hand and pointed; a burst of Qi flame shot out, instantly igniting the shrubs.

Soon the shrubs were reduced to ash, leaving a bed of cinders.

With the shrubs gone, a circular opening widened, exposed to Gohan's view.

Gohan waved his hand, dispersing the dust and pungent smoke, then leapt into the cavern.

After walking about five or six meters, a massive steel door blocked his path.

Upon closer inspection, the steel door bore a striking emblem.

The emblem had a red background with white edges, resembling a bow, and bore two capital Rs.

It was unmistakably the Red Ribbon Army logo.

Gohan felt a surge of joy.

It was exactly the saying of searching in vain and then finding it effortlessly.

Finally, we've found it.

Dr. Gero's laboratory must be here.

Thinking of that, Gohan slightly amplified his Qi and signaled Trunks.

Trunks sensed Gohan's rising Qi, his body igniting with fierce flames, and he swiftly flew toward Gohan.

Soon, Trunks descended from the air, ran into the cavern, and stood beside Gohan.

"Gohan brother, found it?" he asked.

Gohan pointed to the massive steel door behind him.

"If nothing's amiss, it's behind this door,"

"Oh?"

Trunks circled around Gohan, stood behind him, and placed his hand on the heavy steel plate, feeling its icy coldness.

He tapped it, and the iron door emitted a dull thud.

"Gohan brother, this door is entirely made of steel plates, over 40 cm thick—what shall we do?" Trunks asked.

Gohan replied, "What else? Of course we'll brute-force it. Trunks, you open it, but control your strength so you don't damage anything inside."

"Alright, got it," Trunks nodded.

Gohan stepped back a few steps.

Trunks extended his palm, pressing against the iron door.

Qi burst!

"Boom!"

A deafening blast rang out.

In an instant, the ground shook, and debris rained down from above.

The steel door, at least 40 cm thick, was shattered by Trunks' single palm.

"Uh, Gohan brother, I think I applied a tad too much force," Trunks said awkwardly.

"It's fine, let's go." Gohan waved away the dust, passed through the door, and stepped inside.

Trunks also swept away the smoke, staying close behind Gohan.

Beyond the door, a spacious laboratory unfolded before them.

Unlike the dim cavern, the lab's ceiling was embedded with numerous glowing energy stones.

The energy stones illuminated the entire area, making the lab as bright as daylight.

Dr. Gero hollowed out this weathered stone hillside,

and turned it into this sizable secret base.

Inside the lab, bundles of wiring were densely coiled, covering the floor and walls.

Several massive computers stood there, their screens pitch black, long since shut down.

In the archive room, piles upon piles of Dr. Gero's manuscripts and work notes were stacked.

In the main hall, three nutrient hibernation pods were arranged in various orientations.

Two of the pods were open, while one remained sealed, with an energy pipe attached on each side, continuously supplying power to the pod.

Not far from the pod lay a decapitated corpse.

It was more a skeleton clad only in clothing than a corpse.

From the attire, it was clear the corpse was Dr. Gero himself.

The hapless Dr. Gero, after awakening Android 17 and 18,

tried to control them with a custom remote controller, but unexpectedly was killed by Android 17.

In the end, even his skull was blasted apart by Android 17, leaving no body.

On the other side of the lab, a large opening led outward.

It was likely ripped open violently by Android 17 years ago.

The opening led directly to the outside Gobi, letting windblown sand pour in, covering the lab floor with dust.

Gohan crouched beside Dr. Gero's corpse and fumbled around.

After pulling the only pen from Dr. Gero's chest pocket, Gohan stood and kicked the headless skeleton out of the hole.

"Trunks, gather all useful items," Gohan ordered.

"Yes, Gohan brother," Trunks replied, retrieving his portable storage capsule and stashing the computers, notes, and various manuscripts.

Gohan then walked over to the hibernation pod.

He first packed the two open pods into his storage capsule, then crouched to inspect the sole unopened pod.

A numeric label was etched on the pod.

16!

Through the pod's transparent glass, Gohan saw a tall, muscular android inside.

The android had a sharply defined, angular face with short red hair.

He wore green armor, a black bodysuit, white socks, green short boots, and a cold expression.

It was unmistakably Android 16.

This is a fully mechanical android that Dr. Gero created using his son as a model.
