Xie Xie nodded, acknowledging Tang Wulin's efforts. For a Rank 11 Spirit Master who hadn't yet unraveled any of the Golden Dragon King Seals, surviving a direct clash with a six-hundred-year Brown Bear was a testament to his raw physical power.
Tang Wulin beamed, feeling encouraged. "By the way, Boss, what level of Spirit Beasts do you usually hunt? Are they all stronger than this one?"
"On the way to find you, I happened to kill a Man-Faced Demon Spider. It was about one thousand three hundred years old," Xie Xie said matter-of-factly. "That's about the standard for me."
"..." Tang Wulin went silent. The gap was wider than he thought. A Man-Faced Demon Spider was a nightmare predator, yet Xie Xie spoke of it as if he were swatting a fly.
"Let's go. Time to regroup with Xiao Yan and the others." Xie Xie vanished with a shimmer of blue light, pulling Tang Wulin through the spatial rift.
When they reappeared, the rest of Class Zero was already in formation. With two Spirit Grandmasters like Xie Xie and Gu Yue leading the charge, the group moved through the Elementary Spirit Ascension Platform like a tidal wave. They avoided the lower-level beasts, leaving those for Tang Wulin and the others to polish off. Only when a Thousand-Year beast appeared would Xie Xie and Gu Yue step in to secure the kill and distribute the energy.
Outside the Spirit Ascension Platform
"I didn't expect their combat efficiency to reach this level so quickly," Long Hengxu whispered, watching the monitor.
Wu Changkong watched in silence, his eyes fixed on the fluid coordination of the seven children. "This isn't just about increasing their ring years," he muttered. "They are building a level of chemistry that usually takes years to develop. In less than three years, this team will be terrifying."
The machines whirred as the capsules opened. Xie Xie was the first to step out, followed by the rest of the group.
"Why are you out so early?" Wu Changkong asked, puzzled. "Your soul power isn't exhausted."
"Teacher Wu, Xiao Yan, Zhang Yangzi, and the others have all completed their Spirit Ascension," Xie Xie explained. "And Wulin gained over three hundred years. Everyone has reached their current limit for absorption."
"And what about you and Gu Yue?"
"The proportion of Thousand-Year Spirit Beasts in the Elementary Platform is too low," Xie Xie shook his head. "To increase my five-thousand-year soul here would be harder than climbing to the heavens." Gu Yue nodded in agreement.
Long Hengxu was ecstatic. "Everyone completed their ascension? This is a historic success for the academy!"
The Return Journey
As the academy car sped back, the atmosphere inside was electric—at least for a moment.
"I successfully upgraded! My rings are now a thousand years!" Zhang Yangzi said excitedly. Wang Jinxi and Wei Xiaofeng nodded, their auras visibly stronger.
"I reached one thousand five hundred years," Xu Xiaoyan said happily, leaning toward Xie Xie. "Thank you, Big Brother!"
"Even though I'm still at three hundred years, it's thirty times better than where I started," Tang Wulin laughed. "Under Boss's Time-Space Shackles, those beasts were just sitting ducks!"
Long Hengxu beamed from the passenger seat. "Your potential is overflowing. Next year, during your second year, the Tianhai Alliance Grand Competition will be held. I expect you to win glory for Donghai Academy."
"I hope I can get a high rank..." Tang Wulin started to say, but his voice trailed off. A wave of exhaustion hit him, and he slumped against the window, fast asleep.
"???"
Suddenly, Zhang Yangzi, Wei Xiaofeng, and Wang Jinxi followed suit, snoring instantly.
"Big Brother Xie Xie, I—" Xu Xiaoyan's head dropped onto Xie Xie's shoulder as she drifted into a deep sleep.
"Teacher Wu! What is this?" Long Hengxu panicked.
"Calm down, Director," Wu Changkong said, steadying the wheel. "Their mental force was pushed to the limit during the ascension. This is a natural reaction to the massive influx of soul energy. They just need to sleep it off."
As they pulled up to the dorms, Xie Xie prepared to carry Xu Xiaoyan, but Gu Yue moved faster. She scooped up the sleeping girl with a cunning glint in her eyes.
"A certain someone isn't allowed in the girls' dormitory," Gu Yue said with a cold snort. "Take your 'little brothers' and go. I'll handle the girls."
Xie Xie stood by the car, left with a snoring Wei Xiaofeng. He watched Gu Yue walk away, realized he'd been outmaneuvered.
Girls' Dormitory
Gu Yue laid Xu Xiaoyan onto her bed. Her cool face softened, then hardened again. Xie Xie truly values this childhood sweetheart, she thought. In my bet with Na'er, Xiaoyan might be the biggest variable.
"Logically, I should eliminate the competition," Gu Yue whispered to the quiet room. "But I am the Silver Dragon King. I will win his heart fair and square by being better than all of them."
She tucked Xiaoyan in, a confident smirk playing on her lips. She didn't just want to win a bet; she wanted to prove that even a "monster" like Xie Xie couldn't resist her.
