"Eh. Did Gu Yue come along too?"
Feeling a cool, familiar aura approaching, Xu Xiaoyan looked up from her hiding spot. Seeing Gu Yue standing just behind Xie Xie, a flicker of surprise crossed her face.
"Mm, I happened to spawn near Xie Xie," Gu Yue nodded. Her amethyst eyes subtly drifted down to the hand Xu Xiaoyan was currently clutching—Xie Xie's right hand.
"Got it. Big Brother Xie Xie, are we going to find the others now?" Xu Xiaoyan asked, her gaze returning to Xie Xie as she guessed his intent.
"Yes. Wei Xiaofeng and the others should be able to hold their own, but Tang Wulin only has one ring. The probability of him encountering a predator he can't handle in this forest is far too high."
Receiving an affirmative response, Xu Xiaoyan's small face set with determination. She turned to Gu Yue and reached out her free hand. Gu Yue understood the silent request for a "teleportation chain" and stepped forward to take it.
"Gu Yue's hand is also quite warm..." Xu Xiaoyan muttered to herself. Her brow furrowed as her dazed gaze flickered between Gu Yue and Xie Xie, as if her sharp intuition had just picked up on a shift in the air.
"Cough, let's go," Xie Xie cleared his throat, feeling the weight of both girls' stares. He offered a light smile to break the tension.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the virtual forest.
Wang Jinxi, Zhang Yangzi, and Wei Xiaofeng weren't the type to sit and wait. As two-ring Spirit Grandmasters, they had been hunting since they arrived. They were currently standing back-to-back, facing a pack of five Wind Wolves, each with over a hundred years of cultivation.
"Ice Wheel!"
Just as the wolves prepared to lunge, five golden-shimmering wheels of frost erupted beneath their paws. The sudden ice instantly locked the wolves in place.
"Xiao Yan's daytime control is getting stronger. It seems she's been training seriously," Xie Xie praised as the trio materialized nearby.
"Of course! Big Brother doesn't even need to step in for these weaklings," Xu Xiaoyan giggled, clearly enjoying her utility.
With the wolves immobilized, the boys made quick work of them. "Green Shadow Strike!" "Bone Dragon Claw!" "Eagle Strikes the Sky!" Within seconds, the energy from the wolves was absorbed.
"Thanks for the assist, Sister Xiaoyan," Wei Xiaofeng laughed.
"You guys stay together," Xie Xie instructed the group. "With five of you, even a thousand-year beast won't be a problem. I'm going to find Tang Wulin."
"Boss is right," Wei Xiaofeng agreed. "Wulin's cultivation is too low. If he meets anything bigger than a house cat, he's toast."
"Just leave this side to me," Gu Yue added, her voice calm.
Xie Xie nodded, and with a ripple of blue light, his figure vanished.
Tang Wulin was having a miserable time.
Less than thirty meters away, a hundred-year Azure Wolf was stalking him.
"Blue Silver Grass Binding!" Tang Wulin shouted, launching his vines. But the wolf simply swiped its claws, shredding his strongest control method as if it were cobwebs.
Not good, Wulin thought, panic rising. This is a hundred-year beast! Without hesitation, he reached into his bag. If the grass failed, the metal would speak.
"Thousand-Forged Tungsten Steel Hammer!"
He concentrated every ounce of his monstrous strength into his arm and smashed the hammer toward the wolf's skull. BANG! The wolf staggered, its head visibly caving.
"It worked!" Wulin's eyes lit up. He treated the wolf's head like a piece of raw metal, delivering five consecutive, thunderous strikes until the beast stopped twitching. A faint green light merged into his white ring, deepening its color. I doubled its lifespan in one fight!
But his luck didn't last. Ten minutes later, he found himself staring into the eyes of a five-meter-tall Brown Bear.
This was a flagship predator—high offense, high defense. Tang Wulin turned and bolted, but the bear was faster. Seeing he couldn't escape, he spun around. "Flying Hammer Meteor!" He hurled one hammer to distract it and charged with the other.
The bear roared, swatting the flying hammer away like a fly. It pinned Wulin's second hammer down with a single claw, the sheer weight of the beast sending Wulin flying backward.
The disparity is too great, Tang Wulin thought, watching the bear approach step by step, playing with its prey. He reached for his exit button, despair clouding his vision.
Suddenly, the world went silent. A figure appeared between him and the bear. With a casual wave of his hand, the massive Brown Bear froze in mid-roar, its jaws locked open.
"Xie... Xie Xie?"
"What are you staring at?" Xie Xie chuckled, leaning against a nearby tree. "Take your hammer and finish it."
Tang Wulin didn't need to be told twice. He delivered thirteen consecutive, frantic blows to the bear's skull while it was trapped in Time-Space Imprisonment. The bear finally dissipated into brownish energy, merging into Wulin's ring.
"Wow... my ring lifespan increased by decades!" Tang Wulin gasped. He looked at Xie Xie. "Don't you need this energy for yourself?"
"A Brown Bear is a drop in the bucket for my ten-thousand-year goal," Xie Xie smiled. "But for you, it's a huge boost. We'll hunt more for you later."
Tang Wulin looked at the boy before him and finally understood why everyone called him Boss. Xie Xie wasn't just powerful; he was a leader who looked after his own.
"Thank you, Boss Xie Xie," Wulin said firmly.
"Actually, you don't have to add the name," Xie Xie laughed.
"Yes, Boss!" Wulin grinned.
"Come on. The rest of the team is waiting. Let's get Class Zero together."
