Chapter 9 - Chapter 9

"Yeah, that sounds like this vampire definitely wants us to stay away from him," Michael told Daniel, "Probably for the best, for now, we can take him out later. Nice of him to give you your learner's permit back, though." Daniel had been at his house for about 20 minutes and had given him the rundown on what happened with Hudson(the vampire) the night before. "Why don't you just take out these vampires? I mean, it seemed to me like you were faster and stronger than that one last night." Daniel asked. "Well, if I'm being honest, there are a few reasons. One, of course, is that I have been basically retired until now and just drinking all day, hardly the condition to fight supernatural monsters, and number two, I've never been particularly good at tracking down the vampires. I was probably the strongest of our group, but your dad was the smartest." Michael responded. There was a slight pause before Daniel responded with the question, "What about my mom?" There was a pause before Michael sighed, "She was on par with me in her prime, but she also had an intellect equal to your father's." Daniel sensed Michael's mood shifting from excited about his training to sad, "So are we gonna keep jibber jabbering or are we gonna start training?" Michael's face lit up, "Oh yeah. Well first we should probably do a crash course on vampire biology and abilities." He breathed in, "we all know the basic idea of vampires they suck blood, and they need it to survive, though most vampires can live off of one victims entire blood stream for about 6 months before they need to feed again, but vampires enjoy feeding, and not just feeding they enjoy the hunt. I guess they are similar to dogs in that sorta way. There are three kinds of vampires: the weakest, drones, which are kind of like zombies, but they aren't super common because the human that has been turned into a drone is dead, so they basically start rotting, though they are used as a tactic by some vampires. Then there are 'named vampires' and daywalkers; they basically follow the same rules except that daywalkers can walk around in the sunlight, though from what I have seen, daywalkers are usually not as strong as named vampires, but this, like almost any other rule in life, has its contradictions. Vampires have a few notable weaknesses: crosses, holy water, complete decapitation, sunlight, and a wooden stake right in the heart. A good chunk of named vampires and daywalkers, especially the named ones, will have varying vampire abilities, which are abilities outside their natural superhuman strength, aggressive regeneration, speed, and endurance. So vampire abilities include, but are not limited to, flight, hemokinesis, shapeshifting, hypnotism, and telepathy. The rules for these powers are generally case-by-case as well. I think I covered just about everything I can think of. Any questions?" Daniel shook his head. He was a little overwhelmed, but he felt like he took it all in pretty well. Michael smirked, "Okay, well, let's get going!" Michael went out his back door, and Daniel followed.

Daniels' training was extremely intense every day for 2 and a half weeks. He'd go to Michael's home at 5 am and train. Every day, they'd jog 100 kilometers for a warm-up, then Daniel would do 2000 pushups, 2000 squats, 2000 v-ups, 2000 pullups, and 2000 clean and jerks with nearly 400 kilograms on the bar, and that was the warm-up. They would then do nearly 6 hours of combined drilling techniques and live sparring. By the end, Daniel was exasperated, but he and Michael finished every day with a 30-minute stretch for recovery. Daniel had expected that he'd be physically superior to Michael, but Michael was consistently keeping up with and outdoing Daniel. When Daniel asked why, Michael just said that he was a 'peak human' and so were most of the vampire hunters he had met. On the last day of the second week, they were sitting down after their stretches, drinking sodas, and talking. "So I suppose you have school tomorrow, so this is the last full day of training. I'm confident now that you have the technical prowess to take on most vampires, but don't be afraid to call me if you're in trouble, alright? And come down here every Tuesday and Thursday after school, and Saturday in the mornings." Michael said. "Wait, what? Right before you said it was the last full day, but I got to come on Saturday?" Daniel asked very much so in a complaining manner. Michael grumbled, almost forgetting that Daniel was an annoying teenager, "It'll be a half day. Even with your powers, you've gotten stronger lately, but muscles are like knowledge; if you don't use it, you'll lose it." They began sipping on their sodas again. It was dark out, and they could see the night sky. "So, got any little girlfriends you're excited to see tomorrow?" Michael said, smirking and nudging Daniel's arm with his elbow. Daniel laughed, "No, man, I'm not really good with girls at all." "Oh, no one is. Any other friends than that ugly little weirdo at school?" Michael asked. "Jeffers? No, I don't really have any friends other than him. Its been me and him against the world for as long as I can remember. Well, there's this girl Jubilee, but I wouldn't consider her a friend." Daniel answered. Michaels' smirk grew, "Did I not ask about girlfriends earlier?" Daniel turned almost annoyed, "No, for about as long as I can remember she's followed me around and I've been just okay with it, but it's not cause she likes me. She says that she is suspicious of me. I guess now maybe her suspicions aren't far off because I'm a superpowered vampire hunter, but she's always been annoying about it." Michael chuckled and then took a large swig of his soda, then threw the can straight into the trash. "Why did you laugh?" Daniel asked. Michael sat back on his hands, chuckling even more, "Nothing." Michael's smirk just turned into a smile, "You kids just make me laugh."
