Jamie stopped a few feet away from him. Not too close and not to far, just enough distance to remind both of them that something had shifted.
Jett's hands slowly slid out of his pockets when he saw him. His throat moved like he was swallowing back words.
"Hi baby." Jett said quietly.
Jamie didn't return it, he just stared at Jett quietly.
The silence that stretched after that was thick with tension.
"So?" Jamie said finally. "Talk."
Jett inhaled slowly.
"That woman you saw," he began.
"You mean my replacement?" Jamie cut in sharply, even though he didn't mean to.
Jett's jaw tightened. "No, sweetheart."
Jamie laughed bitterly. "She introduced herself as your fiancée."
Jett stepped forward instinctively, then stopped himself when Jamie stiffened.
"Baby, I know." Jett said carefully, " But you need to listen to me Jamie."
Jamie's chest rose and fell faster.
"She's not my fiancée," he said firmly. "Not by my choice."
