Jamie had been staring at the same paragraph for fifteen minutes.
The cursor blinked at him mockingly from the middle of his half-finished assignment. At one point, the words on his laptop screen started to blur together and the lines of text started swimming as his thoughts kept drifting back and forth between reality and his clouded mind.
He exhaled sharply and rubbed his face.
"Focus, Jamie." He whispered to himself and forced his fingers to move across the keyboard. He kept typing and deleting.
It got to a point where he started getting angry. It was as if he was stuck at a spot and wasn't moving forward despite trying so hard. He wanted to quit the assignment and do it later. But it was due the next day so he couldn't afford to quit.
His flinched as his bedroom door flew open and his brother walked in.
"Do you ever lock this thing?" Jace's voice filled the room.
Jamie jumped in his chair. "What the hell, Jace?!"
