After Leon proposed, I couldn't wait to tell my family. I was still shaking with joy when I walked into our house, my left hand slightly raised like I was trying to catch sunlight just so they could *accidentally* notice the ring.
My mom was in the kitchen, humming, while my dad sat in the living room reading. My siblings were scattered around, some on their phones, others watching TV.
I smiled and said calmly, "So… I have something to tell you."
Everyone turned.
"What is it?" my mom asked, wiping her hands and walking over to me.
I held up my hand slowly, and there it was the ring glistening.
At first, silence.
Then my mom gasped. "Is this? Oh my God! You're engaged?!"
She screamed. My dad stood up with a proud smile and hugged me, while my mom was already in tears. My sister screamed louder than me and snatched my hand to see the ring up close. My brother grinned and gave me a teasing "about time!" look.
Everyone was overjoyed. My mom kept asking how it happened, where, what he said and I had to tell the story three times. My dad nodded approvingly and said, "Leon's a good man. I'm proud of your choice."
