Several days later, a petite girl stood before Shuu Tsukiyama.
She looked like a child short in stature, with shoulder-length auburn hair and an innocent face that made her seem no older than eight or nine.
Her name was Chie Hori.
A human.
One of Tsukiyama's few human contacts.
She specialized in intelligence gathering especially information related to ghouls and made her living by selling what she uncovered.
Despite her childlike appearance, Chie was already twenty-four years old, a fully grown woman.
It was precisely because of this deceptive appearance that her efficiency was terrifyingly high.
Almost no one ever suspected her.
"Tsukiyama-kun," Chie said cheerfully, spreading several photographs across the table,
"these are all the photos I took of that guy Fushimi Kyo."
"He lives alone, attends Seimi High School, and has a close friend named Yoriko Kosaka."
She leaned in, lowering her voice mysteriously.
"Do you know what else I found?"
Tsukiyama's interest was piqued.
"Oh?"
"He's in the same class as Kirishima Touka."
"Touka?" Tsukiyama raised an eyebrow.
He knew very well that woman had always been desperate to integrate into human society but attending school with humans?
How utterly laughable.
"This guy is extremely dangerous," Chie continued excitedly.
"He defeated Rize, killed Jason, and even ate Jason's kagune."
Despite her words, her expression was glowing with excitement.
"Excellent work," Tsukiyama praised.
"Hehe~ If you have jobs like this again, be sure to call me!"
"Among all my clients, you're the most generous, Tsukiyama-kun!"
Her smile was dazzling as she skipped away.
After she left, Tsukiyama fell into deep thought.
Then his eyes lit up.
"…Yes. That will do."
Seimi High School After School
The school gates were crowded with students heading home.
"See you tomorrow, Kyo!"
Yoriko Kosaka waved enthusiastically before grabbing Touka's arm and dragging her away.
The two had plans together after school.
"Touka, I'm really relieved," Yoriko said happily.
"You've finally made up with Kyo."
"We were never really fighting," Touka replied casually.
"I just… didn't like him before. Now I've gotten used to him."
"…Huh?" Yoriko blinked.
That explanation made absolutely no sense.
Touka glanced back at Fushimi Kyo, watching him walk alone.
"…He's not that annoying anymore," she muttered.
After Koma's words, she had consciously let go of her prejudice.
Today, she had even spoken to Kyo on her own initiative.
And surprisingly
He hadn't treated her coldly at all.
Walking alone down the street, Kyo felt bored.
"The feeling of being watched is gone."
"So… it's finally time to act?"
He had noticed the surveillance days ago but chose to wait.
To see who would make the first move.
After passing through two more blocks
Two police cars suddenly sped in from front and back, boxing him in.
Seven or eight officers stepped out.
"Police investigation. Hands up."
"We suspect you're involved in a recent homicide."
"Cooperate with us."
Click click click.
Seven or eight black gun barrels were aimed directly at Kyo.
"…Oh?" Kyo frowned.
A familiar scent drifted from the crowd.
Two ghouls. Six humans.
"When did ghouls start working as police?"
"…Fake cops?"
A trace of mockery curled at the corner of Kyo's lips.
Onlookers gathered quickly.
"He looks harmless who would've thought he's a suspect?"
"So young, yet already killing people?"
"Is he even human? I heard ghouls are good at disguising themselves."
"Someone like that should be locked up immediately."
Kyo raised an eyebrow.
"Smart," he thought.
"They know I won't strike back in public."
"I'm really starting to wonder who's behind this."
"Do not resist," the lead officer barked.
"Submit to an RC-cell suppressant injection, or we will open fire."
"RC-cell suppressant?" Kyo scoffed inwardly.
"That junk won't do anything to me."
The suppressant was designed to seal a ghoul's kagune and cripple their combat ability.
But Kyo wasn't a ghoul.
It wouldn't affect him at all.
So he cooperated.
When the injector pierced his skin, he immediately sensed something wrong.
"…They added anesthetics."
"Interesting. They know me better than I thought."
His gaze turned cold.
If they dared touch Yoriko
That would be unforgivable.
"Looks like I'll have to wipe you all out," he decided.
Still, Kyo allowed his body to go limp, collapsing to the ground.
One of the disguised ghouls brightened.
"It worked."
They exchanged a subtle glance.
Kyo was lifted and thrown into the car.
The sirens wailed as the vehicles sped away.
Inside the car, Kyo pretended to be paralyzed.
"Hahaha! The young master said this guy was dangerous, what a joke."
"Using this method was genius."
"Can't wait to see what reward we get."
"So many people for catching this trash overkill."
Kyo listened silently.
Young master…
His interest grew.
They had no idea what kind of monster they had just taken with them.
And soon
They would learn.
