Chapter 3 - Destiny's Heir

Milo was by no accounts that handsome, at least compared to those currently at the Awakened Academy. He had been relatively unassuming before his First Nightmare, and now he only looked partly handsome. One could make an argument that he was cuter rather than more handsome. His caramel skin and short stature made him seem like a little kid. His fluffy brown hair did not help either. Which rather infuriatingly, was not that far off from the truth. His First Nightmare had taken place two months after he had turned fifteen.

However, if there's one thing that teenagers could not prevent. It was there socialness, they just loved to talk and talk and chat. Milo was missing the days were he could just breeze through school and go into his Dreamscape Pod, practicing swordsmanship.

Snapping back to reality, Milo had tuned out the introduction ceremony. He didn't feel a need to listen. After being assigned his dormitory, he made haste to shut himself in his room. He had been waiting for a chance to be alone, after all, he never had the opportunity to review his memories.

Memories: [Pearl of the Deep] [Carmen's Hammer]

Memory: [Pearl of the Deep]

Memory Rank: Awakened

Memory Type: Charm

Memory Description: [Those who songs enthralled beings into the Deep crafted pearls to permit land creatures to join them in the sea]

Milo deduced two things. One, the Awakened Tyrant he had killed was using a mind attack. The second thing he deduced was that this charm seemed to help in underwater travel. In what ways he would have to discover later.

Memory: [Carmen's Hammer]

Memory Rank: Awakened

Memory Type: Tool

Memory Description: [Carmen had used many a tool to create his shells and eventually his masterpiece, however the most reliable of his tools was his trusty hammer. Anything hammered down by it was reinforced beyond reason, anything struck by it was damaged beyond repair]

Milo thought back to the being he had inhabited. Considering that when he had pierced the core inhabiting his body, it referred to it as "Carmen's Shell". He considered the possibility of Carmen having possibly been a Saint, or maybe even a fabled Supreme. After all, a mere awakened beast of his creation was able to bring down waves of dormant creatures, than face down and win against a Awakened Tyrant. He was also the owner of the fortress, as the Spell had referred to it as Carmen's respite.

'What a peculiar fellow'

Milo then remembered he had received two different attributes. So he decided to take a look at them

[Iron Logic] Attribute Description: "Your calculations and database are precise, they have very little flaws"

[Apostle] Attribute Description: "You are a messenger of a future that has yet to arrive"

Milo could make sense of the first attribute, it seemed that his thought process and memory were increased or refined in some way to be nearly flawless. That would be very helpful when learning. What had him confused was the second message, could the spell possibly mean that his aspect and what he represented was a show of what the technology would be in the future of the world? He hardly believed that would constitute becoming an Attribute though.

As much as Milo wanted to believe that answer, he couldn't help but feel something scratch at the back of his mind that it was much worse than what he wanted it to be. Well whatever it was, it could wait, it was time for supper.

Walking down to the cafeteria, Milo looked at the array of foods offered to him. Some were better then the foods he had at home. Scanning around, he noticed a relatively empty spot, and so he gladly took it. It was time to do some attribute testing.

Sure enough, the cheap plastic finger on his prosthesis had formed a sharp knife. Cutting the steak on his plate, Milo began to chow down. That was until someone interrupted his eating. Looking up, Milo was stunned at the person... no it was more accurate to call her a statue.

She was tall, at least 5'11 by Milo's estimate, she was looking down at him with indifference. She had crimson eyes that Milo would compare to flames, if they weren't dulled by the lack of emotion. She had short hair that barely went past her shoulders. It was manually ruffled up to make it appear textured. She was a fit type of slender, like you'd see in most sleepers. However the most striking feature was her skin, it tittered on the edge of marble white, which Milo assumed was related to her Aspect.

"Do you mind if I sit here?" The girl asked Milo, it was then that Milo noticed the plate of food in her hand, holding about two times the servings of food that Milo would consider healthy.

"By all means, the seat is yours" Milo thought nothing much of it. Surely, she would find her rightful spot by the legacies when the next day. There was no way on the Gods green Earth that this girl was from a regular family like him, especially with those eyes.

Even worse, those same eyes were boring into his skull. Why was she staring at him so intensely? What was the point

"My name is Eva"

Milo looked up in stunned silence

"... My name is M-milo"

Eva gave him a simple nod, before her attention returned to her food. It was hard to read, but Milo could swear she had the look of a victor on her face.

His awkward interaction was suddenly interrupted by his communicator buzzing, it was time for his interview.

---

Sitting across from Milo, the worker that was assigned to his interview began

"Would you like any psychological counseling?"

"No thank you"

"Alright, then let's hear about your aspect. Do you mind telling me what rank it is"

"it's Supreme"

The woman's mouth opened, then closed, her eyes wide with confusion.

'The lie detector didn't go off'

The young woman gave a very forced smile

"Do you mind waiting for a second?"

"Of course not"

With that, the woman stood up and walked out the room. After a minute of waiting, a much more mature lady took the young woman's spot.

---

The interview went on without a hitch, and Milo was even able to snag a few soul shards for revealing his Flaw. It wasn't like it could be used directly against him anyway. It was really a problem for post Dream Realm him to worry about.

With a positive mindset, Milo made his way back to his dorm, it wouldn't be long before classes started after all.

The next morning was delightful, a breakfast platter filled with all the pancakes and donuts Milo could ever possibly dream of. However, there was a small commotion around a large screen. Taking a peak, Milo saw a list of Sleepers ranked. In dead last was the blind girl he had encountered earlier. In second place was himself, a supreme aspect was no joke after all.

'Second place? Just what kind of demon is in first?'

Displayed on the screen was the assumed Legacy that had sat next to him.

Name: Eva

True Name: Destiny's Heir
