Chapter 7 - Campfire Story

Milo and Eva sat atop a giant coral hill, a small fire surrounded by rocks was the only source of warmth for the two.

"Do you think there's a citadel here?" Milo was picking at the protruding pieces of metal from his prosthetic limb. As it turned out, the limb was capable of slowly repairing itself because it was apart of his soul. Which was a blessing, however the slowly part could not be emphasized enough. Even after using Carmen's Hammer to get it into manageable shape, it would probably take until the next day for his prosthetic to be fixed completely.

Eva looked unsure for a moment, then shook her head. "I doubt it, this is completely uncharted territory. For all we know, no one will find our two bodies if we die"

Milo gave her a concerned glare "You are really good at reassuring people aren't you?"

"There's nothing wrong with being realistic... but we wont die. I won't let us, besides, we are two tough cookies. A Supreme and Divine Aspect user working together? Priceless really, I'm sure some government recruiter is frothing at the mouth for us"

Milo let out a chuckle, Eva was a bit more informed on the truth of the Dream Realm and what goes on behind it because her mother worked as a government agent. Unfortunately, the Dream Realm and the Great Clans in general aren't exactly happy go lucky.

"After everything you told me, I'm starting to think that this prosthetic is actually meant to spy on me"

"Who knows what the Great Clans are planning. All I know is that my mom has been drinking a lot of coffee because of them"

"Give her my regards when we return"

"I will.... speaking on that, what do you plan on doing when you return to the waking world?" Eva leaned forward, curious to hear his answer

"Well, I don't know. If I'm being honest, I want to become a Dreamscape sensation, you know, those win a bunch of those awesome tournaments. Then I'll retire at thirty and live the rest of my days in peace, like a proper millionaire"

"I can see it happening, at least your aspect will be tricky to fight against"

"You're one to be talking, the moment you master your aspect you'll be a demon to fight against"

"Only the future will tell I guess" The two basked in the silence, and Milo grabbed one of the slivers of meat hanging above the campfire.

"Aren't you going to ask me back?"

"What?"

"Aren't you going to ask me what I do when I get back to the waking world? Seriously you have no manners for your elder"

"Yeah yeah... so what do you plan on doing when you get back to the waking world auntie"

Eva gave him a death glare, then she stood up. At the same time, a metal vambrace appeared on her forearm, Milo suddenly looked pale

"Wait, I didn't mean it I sw-"

Eva wrapped her arm around his neck, putting him in a chokehold. She squeezed with just enough to pressure to make Milo struggle to breath. She held for a bit, then with a shake of her head she let go

Milo clutched at his neck, the feeling of cold and rough armor against his neck wasn't exactly pleasant. However there wasn't an injury on the neck which was surprising. In fact, some of the small cuts and bruises on his body had just suddenly vanished.

Eva noticed the look of confusion on Milo's face "It has to do with a attribute of mine, if I hold something, it'll slowly repair itself, living or non-living"

"Wow that's... actually, hold on to me for like a couple minutes"

Eva complied, and over the next minutes, Milo's broken toe had healed itself, and Milo's prosthetic had also been fully repaired "So this is a divine aspect? I have to say that attribute of yours is overpowered"

"What can I say, I worked hard for it in my First Nightmare" Eva gave Milo a cocky smile

"I'm sure you did. Now let's clean up for the night. We're going to have to start by tomorrow morning no?"

"Let's just hope we can find a citadel, this salty smell is getting to me"

"No kidding"

The sun had already set. The empty void that was nighttime took over again. Eva and Milo packed away the meat they had cooked, and left the campfire going with enough fuel to keep the platform lit until the two fell asleep.

---

Sunny sat atop the stone platform, woken up by his shadow. He could see two lights in the distance, one was only a couple of kilometers away. While the other must have been a week or two of travel away. Then, through the dark sea. A loud and disturbing roar echoed throughout the air. In the direction of the farther light.

"What in the hell was that?" Sunny looked at his shadow, who only shivered in response. Sunny knew for certain he was going to avoid going to that area, however, the other fire could've been other Sleepers.

---

Milo and Eva quickly sat up, Milo's prosthetic quickly changed into a compacted serrated sword. Eva's body was fully surrounded by a black armor that covered her from head to toe. A dagger memory quickly formed in her hands.

Towering above the platform of the two, illuminated by the lightning strikes behind it was a abomination of the deep. It had scales covering it's serpentine body, four golden slit's that Milo could only assume were it's eyes. Worse of all was the roar it emitted, Milo planted his sword into the ground to not fall off the platform. Looking over, Eva simply planted her feet and managed to remain standing.

"What the hell is that thing!"

"I don't know!"

The golden slits looked down at the two, a terrible hiss rung throughout the air. The serpent opened it's mouth, multiple arrays of terrible teeth meant to strip flesh from bone revealed themselves.

"Prepare to fight!"

Milo cursed inwardly

'Fight? I don't think we can even scratch that fucking thing'
