Blood of Kamio – Chapter 2
The orphanage manager was not sure whether Atomic and Onoki were brothers. There were two letters—one found with Atomic and another with Onoki—and the handwriting on the two letters was different. That was why the orphanage manager doubted their relationship.
The orphanage manager was not married. That was why he loved Atomic and Onoki like his own children. Not only Atomic and Onoki, but he also loved all the other children in the orphanage.
Soon, the other children of the orphanage arrived.
Besides Atomic and Onoki, there were five other children in the orphanage.
Their names were: Kibi, Jugo, Yami, Mimi, and Gabi.
Their ages were:
Kibi: 7
Jugo: 8
Yami: 7
Mimi: 6
Gabi: 7
Gabi and Mimi were girls, while Jugo, Kibi, and Yami were boys.
Jugo asked,
"What's going on?"
Onoki replied,
"Nothing. I beat this idiot one more time."
Yami said angrily,
"Who are you calling an idiot? He is Brother Atomic. Don't underestimate him. One day, he will defeat you."
Kibi laughed,
"That day will never come."
Just then, the orphanage manager arrived.
"Stop quarreling," he said calmly. "Come inside for dinner."
Everyone went inside for dinner.
During dinner, the orphanage manager spoke.
"Atomic, Onoki—tomorrow is the day."
Atomic said,
"Yes. Tomorrow we will join the Kamiora Academy."
"That's right," the manager said. "First, there will be a qualification exam. You must show your strongest Kamio technique. If they like your power, they will select you. If they reject you, you will have to try again after one year."
Onoki smirked.
"Atomic's Kamio technique is very weak. I don't think he can pass the exam."
Atomic said,
"I will pass the exam—and I will defeat you."
Onoki laughed.
"In your dreams."
Next Day…
The orphanage manager called out,
"Wake up, Atomic and Onoki. Have your breakfast and get ready for your exam."
Atomic and Onoki woke up, ate breakfast, and left for the Kamiora Academy. It took them thirty minutes to reach the academy.
There were two Kamio qualification examiners present.
The first examiner announced,
"We will see your Kamio techniques one by one. Show us the strongest technique you have. Based on that, we will select or reject you. If selected, your technique will be ranked. The qualification exam begins now."
One by one, the students showed their Kamio techniques.
When it was Onoki's turn, he stepped forward and displayed his power.
The second examiner said,
"He seems talented."
The first examiner nodded.
"Yes. He is impressive. You have passed."
When it was Atomic's turn, he stepped forward.
The first examiner suddenly felt something strange. He had been present fifteen years ago when the masked Kamio fought the monster.
He whispered to himself,
"This feeling… it's the same as before. When that masked Kamio fought the monster. Who is this boy?"
Atomic showed his Kamio technique, but neither examiner seemed impressed.
Quietly, the first examiner said to the second,
"Let him pass."
The second examiner frowned.
"His Kamio technique is not very good."
"I know," the first examiner replied. "But I felt something strange when he came here. I want him to pass."
"He is not capable of joining the Kamiora Academy," the second examiner said.
"I will train him myself," the first examiner said seriously. "Please understand my feeling."
After a moment of silence, the second examiner sighed.
"Alright."
The first examiner announced,
"You have passed."
Atomic became extremely happy.
After the exam ended, the examiners posted the rankings of all qualified students. Forty students had passed the qualification exam.
Atomic and Onoki stood in front of the ranking board.
Ranking:
Reimer
Otsu
Onoki
Atomic looked at Onoki in surprise.
"Really? You're third?"
Onoki smiled proudly.
"Who do you think I am? Now let's see your rank."
Atomic's name was at number 40.
Onoki laughed.
"I knew it. A loser will always be a loser."
Atomic replied firmly,
"No. I will become the strongest Kamiora. Then I will prove that a loser does not always remain a loser."
Onoki scoffed.
"Nice dream."
Suddenly, a loud explosion echoed through the area. Everyone started screaming and running.
Atomic stopped a man who was running past him.
"What's going on? Why is everyone running?"
The man shouted,
"Kamioras from another village have attacked our village!"
Atomic froze.
"What?!"
