Chapter 28 - The Elite Monster

Currently, Cassian was doubting everything around him because the dungeon did not matter. His level, rank, and actual strength did not matter.

What mattered was the monster in front of him and what it meant.

The monster held demonic power similar to his previous experiences with Cypher. Which meant that there was demonic influence in the human realm.

He exhaled slowly, subtracting the thoughts from his head. He could not do anything about it at the moment.

Instead, he faced the wolf and focused his eyes. He had experience and understood how the human body moved. How the shoulders and waist relate to overall movement.

He could not say the same for animals. Moreover, because of the size of the wolf and the angle at which he faced it, he assumed there would be less of a notion to its movement.

In other words, he had to react fast, or he would be attacked.

He would not die if attacked, and did not fear pain. However, he finally had a reason to face his opponent quickly.

He needed to get out of the dungeon, and he needed to find out the truth.

The wolf charged, but jumped back just as Cassian swung. This caused his attack to barely miss. The wolf then pounced back at him.

He leaned back as its jaws approached his neck, he could feel its breath gaze him as the attack passed by.

In response, he planted his left hand on the ground behind him and flipped backwards. While he was flipping his sword followed his body and left a small cut on the wolf's neck.

The wolf quickly followed up by swiping its left paw. He jumped up and brought his sword down on its shoulder.

Whenever the wolf tried to attack him, he would always dodge and counterattack. Through the fight, he learned just how intelligent the wolf was.

It did not try the same method of attack more than once. Instead, it came up with different combinations that he had to constantly adapt to.

Sometimes it would swipe with its right paw, followed by its left, or an attempt at biting, or even its right paw again.

However, none of its attacks worked; it suffered damage every time it moved.

More than intelligence, he was starting to get a read on its temper. It was not simply a being that lived to attack; every time it failed, and every time it got hurt, he could sense its recklessness rise just a bit.

Finally, it swung wide with its right paw, and Cassian once again stuck his sword out so it would impale itself.

However, the attack missed him, and the paw instead was placed on the ground to his right.

The huge body of the wolf swung around on that paw, and its hind legs hit him with all its weight.

His body flew dozens of feet away, eventually impacting against a hard tree with a loud 'THUNK!'.

He assumed that was what it would feel like to be hit by a truck; the amount of force and speed at which it occurred was too much for a normal person to handle.

His mind spun quickly, and his vision became twisted. He, however, recovered his senses in time to see the wolf's jaws clench around his body.

Its fangs impaled his abdomen and filled his body with the sick feeling of pain that came with whatever demonic power it had.

He coughed up some blood, something his body was covered in by that time.

It lifted him into the air easily and started swinging him around like a ragdoll. He managed to avoid dizziness but had to direct most of his focus to maintaining his grip on his sword.

He stabbed the wolf on its nose, but it did not stop flailing around like a dog with a chew toy.

He took the opportunity to stab it several times, and only then did it release his body.

Unfortunately, it did not just drop him, but instead flung him like one would a frisbee. He felt the weightless feeling for several seconds before landing on the hard ground.

All the while, damage numbers had been rising from his body, but he did not even care to look at them. He would heal that much in an instant anyway.

The wolf did not let him rest a second; it chased after him even before he hit the ground.

It varied its tactics again by jumping high up in the air, obviously in an attempt to crush him.

This time, however, he was prepared.

He raised his sword in the path of the wolf, and its own weight impaled it on the sword.

"WOOOUGH!"

The sound of the wolf in pain was pleasant to his ears.

In the end, however, he was under the entire weight of the wolf, comparable to a car.

While he only dealt so much damage, the system does not factor injuries into its functions. This meant that the wolf had practically lost use of one of its front paws.

He, however, was still under the wolf.

It got up and placed its hind legs on his stomach. It then lifted its front legs, but he would not let go of the sword. The sword was firmly planted in its leg, so it did not easily come out.

Each time the two opposed each other, he dealt 18.1 damage to it. Finally, it was down to only a third of its original health, around 250. That was within fourteen attacks of death.

The wolf stopped trying to oppose him over the sword, instead it jumped up in the air and landed on him.

Then again, and again.

Cassian only had a second to move before he was forcefully slammed into the ground. It was like a total reset, with no escape.

The only thing he could do was grip onto his sword and try to remove it.

However, the sword was too firmly lodged.

The use of certain skills, like sword slash and cut, required movement on his part. Just like one could not cut and slash at the same time, one needed to actually slash to use the sword slash skill.

The next time the wolf jumped into the air, he gathered all his force to latch onto its leg. He had to pull himself up by the sword and wrap his legs around the wolf.

He managed to succeed, and the wolf stopped jumping. However, he was only in a slightly better position.

The wolf's maw opened, and he once again saw its razor-sharp teeth approach him.
