Chapter 107: The Revenge Plan (Bonus Chapter)
Because of the Soviet military's actions in the original story, Chiya already didn't think highly of their high command. He felt he was being generous enough by not taking action against them, yet the military leadership had gone out of their way to provoke him.
He certainly wouldn't swallow this insult quietly. He didn't think it would be excessive even if he slaughtered every high-ranking official in the Soviet military.
However, accomplishing this alone would be difficult for Chiya. Even when dealing with that Yakuza gang back then, he had utilized the resources of the Tokyo Public Safety and the police. The Soviet military was on a completely different level of existence compared to a mere gang.
As an internal "war machine" for the Soviets, Reze played a vital role. If Reze acted alongside him, the efficiency of wiping out the high command would increase significantly; after all, she knew the internal structure of the military like the back of her hand.
"Are you... seriously... are you being serious?"
Reze hadn't expected Chiya to make such a decision. She looked up at the faint, blood-red eyes in the void with a look of utter shock.
"Of course I'm serious. Every single one of them. Aside from innocent people who weren't involved in this plan, leave no one alive," Chiya said coldly.
"Master, you should think this through. If you return to Japan now and ask the Cabinet for help, the high command would likely terminate the plan," Reze advised out of genuine concern. "But if Master insists on wiping them out... there are several other 'war machines' like me. I can hold off one or two at most, and then there are massive numbers of Devil Hunters..."
She knew she had no room to negotiate, but she didn't want Chiya to risk fighting the entire Soviet military, mainly because she felt guilty toward him. If Chiya insisted on going, she wouldn't say another word.
In reality, she had harbored deep resentment toward the military for a long time; she had just been forced to endure it. She wasn't actually a mindless, emotionless machine. If there were a real chance to succeed, she wanted to try. Since she was facing death either way and had no leverage against Chiya, she might as well give it her all.
Even though Reze had just personally experienced Chiya's prowess, she hadn't seen his true power yet. Thus, she still felt that for one person to take on the entire Soviet military was a bit too reckless.
"My mind is made up. That's how it will be. I'll let you out once I'm back at the dorm; otherwise, Shingetsu seeing you will definitely lead to unnecessary trouble."
If Shingetsu saw Reze now, she would likely start a fight immediately. Chiya wouldn't even have time to explain and would have to waste energy breaking them up. After saying this, Chiya severed his connection to the Kamui dimension.
He hadn't entered the Kamui space to talk to Reze face-to-face because once his entire person entered that dimension, he could no longer use "intangibility." The principle of Kamui was shifting his physical body from the real world into the Kamui dimension, leaving only an untouchable "shell" in reality. Therefore, facing Reze directly inside the space carried a certain risk, and communicating across dimensions was simply more convenient.
"So? Did you get anything out of her?" Shingetsu asked impatiently. She clearly cared deeply about Chiya's affairs.
"I did. The high command truly sees me as a threat. They wanted to modify me into a 'war machine' just like Reze," Chiya gave her a general summary.
"War machine? Like that inhuman, devil-like form Reze had just now?" Shingetsu couldn't help but ask.
"Something like that. Those beings are actually called 'Hybrids'—a new kind of organism fused with the heart of a weapon-type devil. They are neither human, nor devil, nor fiend," Chiya explained calmly.
"I see..."
This was Shingetsu's first time hearing about the existence of "Hybrids." Since very few people in the world knew about them, the Soviet military had never disclosed such secrets to her.
Chiya then gave her a general description of the "Secret Room" used for human experimentation and modification. As Shingetsu listened to the details, her expression shifted. She was reminded of the "Gu-poisoning" survival program she had been subjected to by the Yakuza many years ago.
"This... it's simply...!"
A sudden realization struck Shingetsu. She finally understood why the military had gone to such lengths to hide the details of that Yakuza program from the public back then. The Yakuza's survival project and the military's human experiments were essentially the same thing!
The only difference was that the Yakuza's version was perhaps even more cruel and inhumane—kidnapping children who had families and treating every life as utterly expendable. In comparison, it made the military look slightly less dark. The military likely destroyed that gang out of fear that if the Yakuza's project were exposed, it might lead back to their own experiments; they simply struck first to eliminate the risk.
"Simply what?" Chiya asked, feeling a bit confused. He didn't know what Shingetsu was thinking, nor did he know about the Yakuza project in her past.
"...I mean the military is simply despicable," Shingetsu replied. She clearly had no desire to bring up her past—especially not the fact that she had personally killed many innocent children just like herself during that project. She feared that if Chiya knew, he would despise her.
"..."
Chiya didn't push further. He didn't plan on telling Shingetsu about his revenge plan, as he didn't want her involved; there was nothing for her to gain by participating.
"Otonashi, let's kill those old bastards together."
However, Shingetsu spoke up suddenly, her voice icy and dripping with killing intent. Chiya was taken aback; he hadn't expected her to volunteer.
"Are you sure? This has nothing to do with you. You don't need to take this risk," Chiya reminded her.
"The reason is simple: they tried to move against you, so I want to kill them," Shingetsu said directly.
Her words were a blunt admission of her feelings, yet she showed no hint of bashfulness—only a dense murderous aura directed at the old men in the military. Chiya was momentarily stunned by her "fastball" confession.
Since she felt that way, he decided not to hide his revenge plan from her any longer.
"Like you, I'm preparing to take action against the high command. However, I'm going to utilize Reze's familiarity with the military's internal structure. It will make things much more efficient," Chiya explained.
"Reze? ..." Shingetsu fell silent for a moment. "If she proves to be trustworthy, then I have no objection."
Even though she disliked the woman, she had to admit that with Reze assisting them, the difficulty of wiping out the military leadership would drop significantly.
