Chapter 104: The Bomb Hybrid
At the same time, Shingetsu—who had found no sign of a devil in her direction—realized something was wrong. She didn't know exactly what was happening, but her intuition told her that something terrible had occurred. Since everything was quiet on her end, it was highly likely the trouble was with Otonashi Chiya and Reze!
Regardless of the situation, she wanted to get there as fast as possible to see what was going on. Shingetsu sprinted toward Chiya's coordinates at her maximum speed; though she knew Chiya was incredibly powerful, she couldn't help but fear the "one-in-a-million" chance of disaster.
BOOM—!
Shingetsu had just started moving when a massive explosion thundered in the distance, coming exactly from the direction of Chiya and Reze.
Something bad really did happen!
Worry flickered in Shingetsu's beautiful eyes as she pushed her speed to its absolute limit.
Staring directly into Chiya's blood-red pupils, Reze's face shifted into a look of pure disbelief. "How...?!"
She had read about this ability in the intelligence reports—an ability that seemed to make his body untouchable, like a ghost. But she had done everything to ensure the success rate of this operation! This subjugation mission was a fake, orchestrated by the high command to coordinate with her actions. The goal was to lead Shingetsu away and wait for Chiya to show a lapse in concentration.
She had judged that his focus was entirely on the area ahead, making him vulnerable. That was why she had struck so decisively. However, Reze's intelligence was still woefully insufficient. She never imagined that Chiya knew everything about her, and she had gravely underestimated his "Kamui" intangibility.
"If I'm not mistaken, you're an assassin sent by the Soviet high command, right?"
Chiya vanished into the ground and reappeared behind Reze. Before he even finished speaking, his left eye glared. A spatial vortex manifested in an instant, snapping Reze's neck.
However, Reze didn't fall. She caught her own severed head with her hands, spun around violently, and hurled her head at Chiya. Simultaneously, she pulled the pin on the choker around her neck. The head flying at Chiya exploded instantly, followed by her body—the blast far exceeding the power of a standard grenade!
BANG—!!
The surrounding weeds and wildflowers were instantly vaporized, and the ground cracked under the force of the blast. Only Chiya remained completely unscathed; his "intangibility" had neutralized the lethal force of Reze's self-destruction.
As the thick gunpowder smoke cleared, a completely different Reze appeared. Her lost head had restored itself—or more accurately, it had transformed into a torpedo-shaped head unique to the Bomb Devil. Her two missing arms regrew rapidly, turning into devilish limbs formed from countless fuses. She also wore a skirt made of a massive amount of dynamite.
This was the form of the Bomb Hybrid!
(Note: In the original work, Reze's first transformation didn't involve her clothes bursting; that usually only happens if her physical body is destroyed first. Regardless, I won't describe it in too much detail—I'm too afraid of the "little black room" [censorship]...)
It seemed Reze was going "full fire."
"I really did underestimate Master's strength~" Even though her cover was blown, Reze's tone remained as cheerful as ever.
"Give it up. You're no match for me. Why don't you just tell me what the Soviet high command's true intentions are?" Chiya said calmly.
Chiya was in the mood to chat with Reze.
While it was now certain that Reze had just tried to assassinate him, he felt that the Soviet high command's true intentions weren't that simple. Otherwise, the initial seduction plan would have been pointless. With Reze's abilities, why would she need to seduce someone to attack them? It just so happened that her target this time was Otonashi Chiya.
"How would I know if I'm a match for you without trying first?"
Reze's meaning was clear: she would never stop until her superiors' orders were carried out. She had long been groomed into a "war machine" that used any means necessary to achieve her goals. In the original series, Reze tried to avoid killing those she didn't have to, but once someone obstructed her plan, she showed no mercy, regardless of who they were. Afterward, she would even quietly donate money to the victims. One could say she was a ruthless pragmatist with a somewhat "kind" heart.
Chiya shook his head slightly, his expression turning cold and serious as he stopped the small talk.
Reze struck first again, flickering in front of Chiya and raising her hand toward his face...
BOOM—!!
At that moment, Reze's arm acted like an RPG launcher. The explosion erupting from her palm reached at least ten meters forward. A normal person would have been blown to bits instantly; even the Public Safety Devil Hunters in the original story were killed in a flash. Unless they were top-tier, they were all fodder for Reze.
However, Chiya remained perfectly intact. Unless Reze could maintain a continuous, non-stop barrage of explosions for an extended period, the power of the blast didn't matter—it could never bypass his "Kamui" intangibility.
Seeing this, Reze froze for a second, but she still refused to believe it. She leaped over ten meters into the air, her leg transforming into a missile head in mid-air. She swung her missile-leg down toward the crown of Chiya's head.
BANG—!!!
The missile exploded instantly, blasting a massive crater into the earth. The weeds and wildflowers that had been there were completely obliterated. Chiya remained unharmed, standing perfectly still in the same spot.
The moment Reze landed, she launched a high kick at Chiya's head with her other leg, which also transformed into a missile. She didn't believe Chiya's strange ability could last forever. Normally, using devil powers continuously would eventually lead to being unable to bear the cost of the contract. Her plan was to use a dense output of explosions to force Chiya to wait for his inevitable death.
Without complete intel on "Kamui," Reze couldn't even begin to imagine what its weakness was!
"Have you had enough? It's about time for my turn."
Reze suddenly heard Chiya's cold voice, and her pupils shrank. In that ghost-like state, can he actually launch an offensive?!
Just after Reze's high kick passed through Chiya's head and exploded, his body solidified. He grabbed Reze's right leg—the one that had just passed through him and was currently self-repairing after the blast. He planned to use this opportunity to use Reze to hone his own martial arts. After all, he was invincible; much like Madara Uchiha, he could end things in a second but chose not to, simply because he wanted to play.
Feeling her right leg being seized, Reze was utterly shocked. She couldn't fathom what kind of devil power this was!
Chiya applied sudden force, throwing Reze off balance and slamming her to the ground. As his hand reached for her neck, Reze's entire body self-detonated. Every part of her, including the massive amount of explosives on her skirt, detonated at once!
BOOM—!!!!!
