Nora's POV
Antonia shakes her head, confusion written across her features. "I don't understand. Dmitri simply allowed you to walk away? What's his angle? What does he expect from you?"
"Nothing specific was mentioned," James begins, his voice measured. "Though I suspect earning favor with both Hugo and Shane carries significant advantages. The old gods don't have many followers these days."
"Their power grows with worship?" Antonia's question comes slowly, and I give her a confirming nod.
"That's seriously messed up," she mutters.
"Exactly what I thought." I adjust my position, feeling the familiar ache between my shoulder blades from constantly holding Renata in this same pose.
"How has Renata been with her schedule?" James inquires, and I can't help but laugh bitterly.
"She's up constantly," I admit with exhaustion coating my words.
