"Are you absolutely certain about that?" I ask Antonia, my voice tight with concern.
"Completely certain," she responds without hesitation. "The paramedics believe she consumed something that caused her pupils to dilate, but those aren't dilated pupils at all. Her entire eye has turned black."
"How could that possibly happen?" Reina retrieves her knife from her jacket pocket again. "I didn't notice any demons around here. Did you?"
"No," I tell her, aware that Lena's confusion is growing more obvious by the second from my peripheral vision. Hell, I can't see any way out of this situation without telling some massive lies or having her memory wiped again. "I encountered War.
