Chapter 13: Gunfire

The airship landed not far from where Uvogin had crashed.

The fight had started right after takeoff, so the ship hadn't traveled far.

Ronin didn't wait for a full stop. When the ship was still ten meters off the ground, he jumped.

Thud.

He landed safely.

Sirens wailed in the distance. Uvogin's fall had alerted the airport staff.

However, seeing police cars rushing to the scene instead of ambulances confirmed that the report of a "murderer on the airship" had reached the ground first.

Police patrolled the airport perimeter. They were rushing in with the ground security team, likely intending to arrest Uvogin if he was still alive.

Ronin knew better. Even a heavily injured Uvogin wasn't something ordinary people could handle.

Guns were useless against him.

Ronin moved discreetly, blending into the gathering crowd near the crash site.

He needed to confirm Uvogin's status.

If the internal injuries were severe enough to immobilize him, it was the perfect time to strike.

If it was just a concussion and minor damage, engaging a cornered beast might be suicidal.

The impulsive urge to kill Uvogin began to fade as rationality returned.

He had to consider the consequences. If he killed Uvogin here, would the entire Phantom Troupe hunt him down?

Facing Uvogin alone was manageable. Facing the Spiders?

But the thought was quickly discarded.

They were already enemies.

If he spared Uvogin now, it would only be releasing a tiger back into the mountain. Uvogin would return with more intel and preparation.

Don't hesitate. Kill him!

The police and security were cordoning off the area, but a crowd had gathered—reporters, travelers, onlookers.

Ronin mixed in, his gaze piercing through the throng to the figure lying on the ground.

The police had Uvogin surrounded. From their shouting, it seemed they were waiting for an ambulance to take him to the hospital.

How humanitarian of them.

Ronin's eyes quietly shifted into the Sharingan. He needed to see Uvogin's Nen.

Uvogin's physical toughness made it hard to judge injuries by appearance, but Nen didn't lie.

Under the Sharingan's gaze, he saw Uvogin's aura flickering weakly. It wasn't a feint; the internal flow of Qi was chaotic.

The fall had done significant damage.

This is it.

Ronin scanned the surroundings, planning the kill. Uvogin's defense was still high; he needed a full-power strike to a vital point.

To prevent a dying counterattack, he should hit him with another Genjutsu first.

While under the illusion, Uvogin's defense would drop further.

I wish I had a kunai or a knife.

Ronin prepared to move, waiting for Uvogin to look at him to trigger the eye contact.

But in the next second, Ronin's pupils constricted.

He saw Nen on a police officer.

Specifically, Nen attached to a small antenna stuck into the officer's neck.

The officer's hand was resting on his holster, and he was walking casually toward the crowd—toward Ronin.

Despite the casual demeanor, Ronin felt a spike of danger.

I've been found!

Shalnark!

Ronin recognized the antenna instantly.

The Phantom Troupe member who was close to Uvogin and possessed a sharp tactical mind.

His ability, Black Voice, allowed him to control people by sticking an antenna into them.

Why is Shalnark here?

If he was with Uvogin, he should have been on the airship.

His sudden appearance paused Ronin's assassination plan and flooded his mind with new variables.

Ronin scanned the area frantically. Was Shalnark hiding nearby? Were there others?

The Troupe usually operated in pairs.

Uvogin appearing alone on the airship was a surprise. Shalnark showing up here made sense.

But was Shalnark alone?

The officer's direct approach meant Shalnark had pinpointed him.

Did he see me jump from the ship?

Probably.

The fact that Shalnark didn't attack immediately suggested caution. Uvogin must have told him about Ronin's abilities, making Shalnark hesitant to engage without backup.

Or maybe Shalnark was trying to stick a second antenna into him.

Ronin's heart went cold. He didn't see another antenna coming, but he didn't wait to find out.

His hands flew into seals.

Hidden Mist Jutsu!

The moment he started the seals, the controlled officer drew his gun.

Without caring for the civilians around him, he emptied the magazine.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Blood sprayed. The crowd screamed. No one expected a cop to open fire on civilians.

Chaos erupted alongside the rising mist.

Ronin wasn't hit. The Sharingan tracked the bullet trajectories effortlessly, and he had plenty of human shields in front of him.

The gunshots drew Uvogin's attention. He turned his head, looking toward Ronin's location.

Their eyes met instantly.

Ronin finished the seal for the mist with one hand, while the other raised to his throat in a slashing motion.

I can't kill you today, but you're on my list.

Uvogin's chaotic aura flared into a rage. He struggled to sit up.

But the mist spread rapidly, swallowing Ronin's figure.

Uvogin coughed up more blood. This time, it wasn't from the injury—it was from pure anger!
