Chapter 12: Flipping the Table
BOOM!
Ronin's fist slammed heavily into Uvogin's chest.
A tyrannical force exploded on impact.
Uvogin's body, anchored to the airship's hull, bent backward under the sheer pressure. Shock flashed through his eyes as the punch connected.
Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth. The blow had hurt him.
But in the next second, the shock on his face morphed into madness. His other arm, which hadn't attacked yet, snapped inward, attempting to bear-hug Ronin into a crushing embrace.
But Ronin, having landed his hit, gave him no such chance.
The Sharingan's dynamic vision captured every nuance of Uvogin's counterattack.
The moment the punch connected, Ronin dropped into a crouch. His right arm pulled back, accumulating Chakra again, aiming directly for Uvogin's groin!
Even Uvogin felt a chill shoot up his spine as Ronin dropped low.
He instinctively shifted his Nen downward to protect his vitals, simultaneously inhaling a massive breath of air.
Sensing the shift in aura and the deep inhale, Ronin instantly realized what Uvogin was planning.
He aborted the punch. Instead, his eyes widened, locking onto Uvogin's gaze, and he cast a Genjutsu while launching himself backward.
At such close range, Ronin clearly saw Uvogin's aura flicker as the Genjutsu took hold.
The disruption was fleeting—Uvogin shook it off in an instant—but that split second was all Ronin needed.
He retreated several meters, clamping his hands over his ears just as Uvogin unleashed a deafening roar!
The Screaming Attack.
Realizing he couldn't easily hit the slippery Ronin, Uvogin had resorted to an area-of-effect sonic attack to stun him.
Against a sonic wave, even the Body Replacement Technique was useless.
But he hadn't expected Ronin to be so decisive.
Uvogin had been charging that breath since Ronin started his approach. He remembered clearly how Ronin had poofed into smoke before. He knew catching him wouldn't be easy.
Stunning him with sound was the best option.
But it failed.
Uvogin looked at Ronin with newfound seriousness. The burst of power had injured him—though his broken ribs from the fight with Ronin's father played a part.
Still, it proved Ronin's attacks were dangerous. Coupled with his ability to read movements and his annoying survival tricks, the boy was far more difficult than anticipated.
Retreating, Ronin watched Uvogin warily.
A pure Enhancer's defense is terrifying.
The Cherry Blossom Impact was his strongest burst attack right now, yet a surprise hit to the chest only caused minor internal bleeding.
What now?
Ronin glanced down. The buildings on the ground were getting larger.
He crouched, adopting a sprinter's stance.
Uvogin narrowed his eyes.
Is he coming again?
The terrain on the hull limited Uvogin significantly. On flat ground, he was confident he could outspeed Ronin and smash him before he could retreat.
But here, hanging off the side of a ship, he was a sitting duck, forced to wait for Ronin to attack before he could counter.
This is annoying!
Uvogin tensed his muscles, ready for defense.
In the process, he subtly moved his jaw.
Ronin moved without wasted motion. The moment he set his stance, he exploded forward, faster than before.
He closed the distance instantly.
Spinning his body, he launched a high kick at Uvogin's head.
Taijutsu: Leaf Hurricane.
This time, Uvogin didn't block.
He ducked slightly, avoiding the kick. At the same time, he spat.
A tooth, wrapped in Nen, shot out of his mouth like a bullet, grazing Ronin's abdomen as he transitioned between moves.
Ronin's expression didn't change. When the kick missed, he had already lowered his center of gravity. The Sharingan had seen the Nen gathering in Uvogin's mouth long before the attack.
He wasn't surprised by the projectile. But the speed was insane.
Even with the Sharingan's warning, he couldn't fully dodge. The tooth tore a gash in his side.
Ignoring the pain, Ronin planted one hand on the hull and used it as a pivot. He sprang up like a coiled spring, driving a heel upward directly into Uvogin's chin.
The movement was fluid, seamless.
Because Uvogin had attacked, he couldn't dodge the follow-up kick at such close range.
THWACK!
The kick connected solidly with his jaw.
Simultaneously, Uvogin heard the ominous groaning of metal beneath his feet.
In that instant, he understood Ronin's plan.
He wants to kick me off the ship!
Realizing this, Uvogin leaned back into an iron bridge, his hands shooting out to grip the torn metal of the hull, anchoring himself.
But just as he grabbed hold, a sense of supreme danger flooded his heart.
The entire section of the hull beneath him shifted. His vision spun violently.
That bastard! He ripped the whole wall off!
Standing on the airship's exterior, Ronin's arms were glowing with massive amounts of Chakra. He wasn't using the Cherry Blossom Impact.
He was using another C-Rank Jutsu: Earth Style: Earth Mausoleum Dumpling!
Originally, this technique used Earth Chakra to lift a massive boulder to crush enemies.
Ronin had repurposed it to tear a massive sheet of metal plating off the airship.
Since Uvogin was already near the broken window, the structural integrity was compromised, making it easier to rip.
The airship was still dozens of meters in the air. Ronin wasn't sure if the fall would kill Uvogin.
But even if it didn't kill him, Uvogin wouldn't land gracefully like Chairman Netero.
Ronin had two choices.
One: Go to the cockpit, force the pilot to pull up, and fly to the next city.
Two: Force the landing and finish off the fallen Uvogin.
The hesitation lasted less than three seconds.
Finish him.
Because Ronin saw Uvogin coughing up copious amounts of blood as he hit the ground!
Kick him while he's down!
