Noel looked away, staring out the window.
"I don't know why Rowan did that."
Bennett's smile was thin.
"Maybe because you don't treat him like the slave he is," he said. "Slaves should be chained. Tied up. Beaten until—"
"That's enough, Bennett," Noel cut in. "I'm not doing that to a human being who's just like me."
Bennett leaned closer.
Noel noticed the water dripping from Bennett's hair.
It wasn't raining.
Bennett smirked.
"I should have been the one to kiss you, Noel."
Noel tilted his head—trying not to sound jealous.
"Why should it be you?" he asked. "Weren't you having dinner with your girlfriend?"
Bennett's smirk widened.
He reached out and ran a finger lightly along Noel's cheek.
"Is that jealousy I hear in your voice?"
Noel frowned and looked away.
Bennett continued.
