The heavy iron door of the dungeon echoed with the frantic sounds of guards running outside. There was massive commotion in the corridor. Luca, still sitting in his dark corner, kept his steady gaze fixed on Lane. His mind was still replaying the horrific scene he had witnessed moments ago.
Luca broke the silence, his voice deep and questioning, "Do you even realize what you just said?"
Lane tilted his head with an air of pure innocence. "Lane… what? What do you mean? What did I say?"
Luca's sharp eyes scanned every micro-expression on Lane's face. He pressed further, "Do you truly not remember? What you said just now to that vampire guard?"
Lane replied with utter simplicity, "I really don't know. Maybe I was talking in my sleep... that's probably why I don't remember a thing."
Outside, the sounds of panic and running intensified. Lane asked curiously, "Why is there so much running around? Did something happen?"
Luca replied coldly, "I don't know what happened outside, but this commotion started just a few moments ago. Something is definitely wrong beyond that door."
As Luca moved closer to analyze Lane, his eyes suddenly fell upon Lane's hand. There was a deep wound there. Lane looked at his own hand, startled. "How did I get hurt here?"
Luca looked at the wound and spoke calmly, "The vampire guard pushed you. You fell to the ground, and that's how you injured your hand. That's all."
Lane moved closer and sat beside Luca again. He was clearly in pain. Wincing, he whispered, "It hurts..." Suddenly, Lane leaned over and rested his head in Luca's lap. "It really... hurts a lot."
Seeing Lane so vulnerable, Luca's rigid demeanor softened slightly. He began to gently stroke Lane's hair, offering a rare moment of comfort. "Don't worry, it will heal soon. It's not a very deep wound."
But Lane, with his eyes still closed, repeated, "But it hurts..."
Without a second thought, Luca took Lane's injured hand and began to clean it gently using his own clothes. After wiping away the blood, Luca said softly, "Look now, it doesn't look so bad anymore."
Lane opened his eyes, noticing Luca's stained attire. "Your clothes... they got dirty."
Luca looked into his eyes and replied stoically, "Yes... I will clean it. I'll forget about it, so don't worry."
