Chapter 16 - What?

After Finn and Max's visit, no one else came to see him. When the afternoon began to fade, the nurse returned, carrying food while checking on his condition.

"By the way, where are the other patients? Am I the only one being treated here?" Elian asked.

"Everyone who failed to endure it ended up dying. Their souls were taken."

Elian fell into thought. There had never been any clear explanation of what truly happened—only death inside the game. And perhaps his condition was somewhat unique.

"Oh, if I'm not mistaken, there's one more child who's in a coma, just like you. She still hasn't woken up. Her name is Amelia."

Hearing that, Elian frowned.

That shouldn't have happened to Amelia. Is this because I changed the story? If that's true, then maybe the cause of our condition is that demon… Or maybe it's because we traveled between dreams, and Amelia hasn't woken up because she doesn't possess the Dreamweaver destiny… Elian tried to reason through the possibilities.

"By the way, what's your relationship with Ms. Seraphina?" the nurse asked with an interested smile.

"We're just a normal teacher and student," Elian replied with a stiff smile.

"Oh, really? I saw her carrying you on her back in a panic, rushing you into the treatment room."

"Isn't it normal for a teacher to worry about their student?"

The nurse seemed to give up, losing interest in Elian's reaction.

"Can you tell me where Amelia is?" Elian asked.

The nurse looked intrigued and asked, "Oh? Do you know her?"

"Yes. She's one of my friends, so I want to visit her," Elian replied casually.

The nurse shook her head. "Unfortunately, you need to rest. I won't tell you until your condition improves." After that, she turned around and left.

Elian raised his hand and poured his magical power into the ring on his finger. In an instant, a floating holographic screen appeared, displaying two points. Sensing no one nearby, Elian immediately got up and left the room.

When he reached the destination, he opened the door without hesitation.

Inside, a girl around fifteen years old lay motionless on the bed. Her long, pale green hair spread across the white pillow, slightly wavy strands shimmering softly under the warm light filtering through the window. Her cute face looked pale, yet still retained a natural gentleness.

Elian walked closer and opened her status.

"What happened…?" Elian frowned as he looked at Amelia's condition on the status screen.

Suddenly, his consciousness faded. The scenery around him changed into a vast grassland. At its center, a girl sat leaning against a tree.

When Elian approached, the girl looked at him."Hello! How did you get here?" she asked cheerfully.

"I was just walking around nearby," Elian replied.

Amelia smiled. "Isn't this place beautiful? I've loved relaxing here since I was little. The scenery is amazing, and the breeze feels so nice," she said enthusiastically, her expression full of joy.

"Come on, follow me!" Amelia grabbed Elian's hand and started running.

"Now sit," she said. When Elian sat down, Amelia pushed him, and they slid down the grassy hill together. Amelia slid alongside him, her face filled with excitement.

"Yeyyyy!" Amelia shouted, laughing happily.

When they reached the bottom of the hill, Amelia stood up and brushed the dirt off her clothes.

"Isn't this fun? Let's do it again!" Amelia smiled brightly, pulled Elian's hand, and dragged him back up the hill before they slid down once more.

Elian woke up, his head resting beside the bed.

Is this a side effect of the Dreamweaver destiny? Elian lifted his head.

When he looked at Amelia's sleeping face, the image of Amelia from his dream overlapped with the girl in front of him. For some reason, it made his chest ache.

Elian held Amelia's hand. Regret filled his heart. If he hadn't dragged her into this from the beginning, she wouldn't have ended up like this. He regretted turning Amelia into this state.

Did someone as kind as Amelia deserve an ending like this? The answer was obviously no.

"Because I owe you so much, I'll find a way to heal you."

During his recovery period, Elian spent his time mastering his new destiny. He discovered that he could enter someone's dream if he knew their soul wavelength.

Sometimes, he also entered Amelia's dreams. And her dreams always changed.

Once, Amelia floated on a lake in a small boat, rowing by herself. When Elian appeared, she looked slightly startled.

"Sir, how did you get here?"

"So that's how it is. I don't know where we are, but I feel like we need to row to get out of here."

The two of them began rowing the small boat together.

The scene changed.

"Sir, it's going to rain soon. How about we take shelter in that cave together?" Amelia was now wearing adventuring clothes, a large backpack slung over her shoulders.

When they entered the cave, Amelia started a fire and took out her cooking tools.

"Here, try this," Amelia said with a smile, handing him a bowl of meat soup.

"Is this your first time in the mountains? It's actually really dangerous to climb without preparation. But you're lucky you met me," Amelia said, smiling happily.

Throughout the week, Seraphina visited to check on his condition and peel fruit for him to eat. For some reason, she always looked sad whenever their eyes met. Meanwhile, Max and Finn also came to visit, bringing delicious food—though the food would go to waste if the nurses found out.

Elian also learned that people inside the dream world couldn't think logically. Their actions were driven purely by instinct. In other words, their behavior in dreams was their true nature.

After finishing his treatment and being declared healthy, Elian returned to his dormitory in the afternoon and planned to resume his activities the next day. When he opened the door, he found his room completely wrecked.

The carpet was covered in black stains, shelves stood open with books scattered everywhere, the bedsheets were torn off the bed, and pillows lay on the floor.

"Damn it, what the hell happened? If I'd known this would happen, I would've preferred sleeping in the treatment room."

Annoyed, Elian stepped inside. His eyes soon fell on a scroll lying on the desk. Despite being slightly dirty, it was the only thing neatly placed there, making him suspicious.

Elian opened the scroll and read the words written on it.

His eyes widened in shock after reading the very first line.

"I know you're from Earth."
