Chapter 8
However, after becoming the Astronomy professor at Hogwarts, Aisen did not rush to leave. Instead, he requested to tour the entire castle.
This simple request was no issue for a professor. Still, Professor McGonagall pointed out some precautions—for example, certain areas of the Forbidden Forest were dangerous, and Aisen should be careful. Of course, Aisen knew this; he had no intention of wandering into the Forbidden Forest looking for trouble, at least not now.
Hogwarts Castle had a very long history. Due to the numerous spells cast around it, to Muggles, it appeared as nothing more than a ruined wreck. But as he strolled around, Aisen realized he had underestimated the complexity of the castle.
While Aisen was visiting the classrooms of various subjects, Professor McGonagall returned to the Headmaster's office.
"Albus, are you sure it's fine for Mr. Turner to be the Astronomy professor?" McGonagall resumed her usual demeanor.
"Why do you ask? Didn't you think he was quite suitable?" Dumbledore clearly wasn't concerned about it, though he wore a strange expression, as if McGonagall hadn't agreed earlier.
"Yes, that's true. He does seem suitable, but his background..." From the interview, McGonagall felt Aisen was indeed good, but she still had some reservations.
"A Muggle-born wizard who suddenly appeared in the Leaky Cauldron a year ago? That's nothing, Minerva—especially since this is Hogwarts!" For Dumbledore, Aisen's background was not an issue at all.
"Very well. So, Harry will be starting school this year?" Seeing Dumbledore's attitude, McGonagall didn't press further but mentioned the boy instead. At this, an inexplicable expression appeared on her face.
"Yes. Don't worry, Minerva. I've already asked Hagrid to keep an eye on Harry." When mentioning Harry Potter, Dumbledore's tone seemed to lighten a bit.
...
Aisen had no idea that Dumbledore and McGonagall were discussing his background. But even if he had known, he wouldn't have cared much anymore. He had no ill intentions toward Hogwarts and no plans to cause trouble, so even if his origins were fully exposed, it wouldn't be a big deal.
After a brief tour of Hogwarts Castle, Aisen finally decided to leave. After all, there were still two months until the young wizards started school, and he did need some time to prepare in advance.
In fact, for Aisen, now that he had become a professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, his next goals were quite clear.
First, it would be easy to encounter house-elves in the Hogwarts kitchens. He needed to confirm whether miracle traits could be applied to them.
Once that was resolved, he would find ways to learn high-difficulty spells like Apparition and the Extension Charm. Even for dark magic like the Unforgivable Curses, even if he didn't learn them, he wanted to understand them.
As for advanced Transfiguration techniques—like becoming an Animagus—Aisen was very interested, but after careful consideration, he decided to give it up for now.
Because with Animagus transformation, the animal one turns into is random; a wizard can't choose what they become. More specifically, it usually relates to the wizard's personality and body weight.
Clearly, this was a major drawback for Aisen. After all, he didn't even know his own personality type. Turning into a cat or an eagle would be fine, but what if he became something bad? The uncertainty was too great, so Aisen really didn't want to take the risk in that aspect.
Finally, Aisen planned to devote some effort to researching and crafting magical artifacts. After all, his system currently allowed him to replicate extraordinary traits from magical items. If he could create suitable artifacts, his strength would definitely increase.
As for the adventures of the main characters, Aisen didn't plan to interfere too much. However, occasionally he had his own plans regarding them.
After returning to the Leaky Cauldron via Floo powder, Aisen changed out of his wizard robes and prepared to go out to buy some items needed for his classes.
With the new job acquired he planned to purchase Muggle astronomy books and a telescope. If he just wanted to muddle through with the young wizards, he wouldn't need these things. But as someone who had lived two lives, he didn't want to leave a bad impression on his students.
Like Gilderoy Lockhart—if he gave the young wizards the impression of having no real skill, Aisen probably wouldn't be able to stay at Hogwarts.
...
That morning, as Aisen came down from his second-floor room, his attention was drawn to the scene before him. The door of the Leaky Cauldron was pushed open, and a towering figure walked in, followed by a bespectacled, somewhat skinny young boy.
Seeing this, Aisen was basically certain: this was the opening act of the main story.
Hagrid had giant blood, so he was extremely tall. He had also been a Hogwarts student, but in his third year, he was framed by Voldemort for murder, expelled, and had his wand snapped.
However, Professor Dumbledore kept Hagrid on, giving him the position of Keeper of Keys and Grounds.
This time, Hagrid's destination was Diagon Alley; he was accompanying Harry Potter to prepare for enrollment.
"Hey, Hagrid—the usual?" Seeing Hagrid enter, the innkeeper Tom called out while holding a glass.
Clearly, from Tom's attitude, the two were old friends. However, Hagrid declined the offer this time, saying he was on Hogwarts business.
Tom wasn't annoyed by the refusal. When he spotted Harry Potter beside him, he couldn't help but scrutinize the boy for a moment—especially the lightning-shaped scar on his forehead.
"Oh, could this be—Harry Potter!" As he spoke, Tom hurried out from behind the bar, approached Harry, and shook his hand.
"Welcome back, Mr. Potter!" It was clear Tom was exceptionally excited. With Tom making such a fuss, the wizards sitting around all crowded over in a matter of seconds.
Despite being grown adults, each one came forward to shake Harry's hand, expressing amazement and honor. Hagrid stood by grinning without stopping them, while Harry Potter looked completely bewildered.
He had no idea he would be so popular in this strange place.
However, observing this scene, Aisen recalled a certain detail. He carefully scanned the wizards present and, sure enough, spotted a pale-faced young man with a turban wrapped around his head.
"Professor Quirrell!" Hagrid greeted the young man. Indeed, this was Hogwarts' Professor Quirrell. Ironically, though he taught Defense Against the Dark Arts, he was possessed by the Dark Lord Voldemort himself.
So, Aisen didn't rush forward to join the excitement.
After waiting about ten minutes, Harry Potter and Hagrid finally extricated themselves from the crowd. Aisen discreetly followed them to the small courtyard out back.
Before Hagrid could do anything, he noticed Aisen approaching.
"You must be Hagrid, I heard so much about. I'm the new Astronomy professor at Hogwarts, Aisen Turner." Before the other could speak, Aisen introduced himself first.
"Oh, so you're the new professor." As expected, upon hearing Aisen's introduction, Hagrid relaxed his guard , "Harry, say hello to him." He introduced Harry Potter as well who nodded his head awkwardly.
"Harry, welcome to the wizarding world!" Following Hagrid's introduction, Aisen tapped the bricks with his wand to open the passage to Diagon Alley, then nodded at the boy in a welcoming gesture.
"Thank you, Professor Aisen!" Perhaps because he'd been stared at for so long, when Harry said this, Aisen felt he seemed a bit dazed.
"Well, I have things to do. See you after term starts!" Aisen didn't linger too much and left with an excuse.
