Chapter 3 - Chapter 3 The Properties of Wands

Chapter 3

Since he had already exchanged his money, the next most important task was, of course, to buy a wand that suited him.

There was no helping it—every time Aisen thought about how wizards in the Harry Potter world had to use wands to cast spells, he couldn't stop himself from inwardly complaining.

For any wizard, a wand represented almost everything. Without one, a wizard was basically nothing but a muggle with magical knowledge ingrained in his brain.

Of course powerful wizards like Dumbledore or Voldemort could cast spells silently and without a wand, but that was only because they were exceptionally strong and had talent to do so.

Otherwise, the wizarding world wouldn't have developed a disarmament spell as targeted and effective as Expelliarmus.

Therefore, no matter what Aisen planned, buying a wand was essential. So, he once again wove through the crowd. Along the way, he passed Eeylops Owl Emporium, the Magical Menagerie joke shop, and Flourish and Blotts bookstore. In addition, there were Quidditch supply stores, Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions, a second-hand robe shop, and more.

Aisen knew that everything before him was so novel and fascinating, with every item holding a charm that could captivate him. However, he was clear about his current priorities, so he didn't stop to look around and instead headed straight for Ollivanders wand shop.

For this wand-selling store, Aisen's memories from his previous life were particularly vivid. It was likely the only thousand-year-old brand in the wizarding world, and young wizards like Harry Potter and Hermione Granger, upon entering school and needing to buy a wand, would all choose here.

However, if Aisen planned to buy a wand at Ollivanders, there might be a bit of trouble. which also made him a bit hestitent.

Earlier, when he entered Diagon Alley from the Leaky Cauldron, he could tell the bar owner that his wand had been damaged while researching a spell. But using the same excuse to buy a new wand at Ollivanders probably wouldn't work.

In Aisen's memories from his previous life, the owner of Ollivanders had an extraordinarily impressive memory. When a young wizard came in, he could clearly remember what wand their mother had used.

if he had to stretch, the old man could even remember what kind of wand his own father had handed out

Of course, Muggle-born wizards like Hermione didn't have this issue.

In that case, for someone like him—a wizard who had lived abroad for several years—not buying a wand locally but instead coming to London specifically to purchase one from the master wandmaker Ollivander made perfect sense. After mulling this idea over in his mind, Aisen felt confident.

Speaking of wands, though, Aisen was curious about one aspect of this world's wand lore: whether wands truly contained something like the Trace. In the original books, the Trace was applied to wizards under 17; whenever they cast a spell, it would be detected.

However, if a young wizard cast a spell while an adult wizard was nearby, the Ministry of Magic could only detect that magic had been used, but not specifically who had cast it.

From this straightforward conclusion, it was clear that the Trace wasn't on the wand itself. Otherwise, why wouldn't it detect a young wizard casting spells near an adult?

Thus, in Aisen's view, the so-called Trace was likely an area-based detection magic. But this wasn't a problem for him anyway, since he was already 18.

...

It was a small, shabby shop. The gold lettering on the sign above the door had peeled away, with a line beside it reading: Ollivanders: Makers of Fine Wands since 382 B.C. In the window, a single wand lay on a faded purple cushion, giving off an air of mystery.

Pushing open the door, Aisen found that aside from a single bench, the shop was empty. On both sides, narrow shelves stretched to the ceiling, packed with thousands of long, thin boxes. Aisen knew that each one contained a wand.

"Good afternoon!" Before Aisen could look around further, a figure suddenly appeared before him.

Looking closely, Aisen saw an old man with white hair and silvery eyes. Clearly, this was the owner of the wand shop, Garrick Ollivander.

"Uh, hello. Mr. Ollivander, I'd like to buy a new one." Aisen put on a faint smile, at least trying to appear harmless, "My previous wand got destroyed in an unfortunate incident."

"Such an unfortunate thing to happen, but if I'm not mistaken, you've never bought a wand from me before, have you?" The old man showed a questioning expression, but his tone was one of complete certainty.

"Oh, yes, Mr. Ollivander. As you know, I've spent the past year living and researching in the Muggle world, but recently my wand was damaged due to resistance during casting. So, I thought I'd come to you for a truly fine wand." Aisen smoothly delivered the excuse he'd prepared, subtly flattering the man in the process.

"I see!" Upon hearing Aisen's fabricated story, Ollivander's face showed understanding, then he continued proudly, "Of course, every wand sold by Ollivanders is of the finest quality."

As he spoke, Ollivander paused in thought, then reached up to a shelf, pulled down a box, and took out a wand, handing it to Aisen: "Well then, try this one. A very fine combination—ash wood, unicorn hair, twelve inches."

This scene left Aisen a bit puzzled—why hadn't he measured his height, arm length, or anything? Still, he quickly took the wand with his right hand.

The moment he grasped it, a strange, comforting sensation rippled through his body. The wand felt like an extension of himself, and even the faint magic within him flowed smoothly throughout his body. This feeling instantly filled Aisen with excitement.

"Oh, excellent—very good. It seems it has chosen you." Seeing Aisen's expression, Ollivander looked satisfied.

Hiss—

Suddenly, Aisen drew in a sharp breath. Just as he was about to ask the price, a virtual screen appeared before his eyes. Yes—his System had come out on its own.

On the virtual screen, in front of his character panel, a pop-up window appeared with the words:

[Discovered extraordinary property—Fine-Level Casting Property]

=> Consume one portion of Miracle Trait to replicate it?

Below the message were Yes and No buttons.

In an instant, countless thoughts flooded Aisen's mind, leaving him a bit dazed, but this wasn't the time to investigate. "So, Mr. Ollivander, how much is this wand?" Suppressing his extraneous thoughts, Aisen put the wand away and asked.

"Oh, it will be just 7 Galleons." Ollivander gave a perfectly reasonable price. From his previous life's memories, Aisen knew that was the standard cost for a wand.

After paying, Aisen left Ollivanders. Next, he needed to buy some essentials. However, eager to ponder his golden finger's new function, he didn't wander around further.

He first went to the second-hand robe shop and bought a used robe, then visited Flourish and Blotts, purchasing the entire "Standard Spells, Elementary" series. Of course, he also got "A Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration," "Transfiguration" "Intermediate Transfiguration Guide," "Advanced Transfiguration Guide," "Magical Theory," and other books.

After all that, he still had over 150 Galleons left. For his first shopping trip in Diagon Alley, Aisen didn't plan to buy cauldrons, scales, or other items, nor did he bother with quirky magical gadgets.

Returning to the Leaky Cauldron, Aisen decided to stay there for a while.

He had no choice as he had bought quite a lot.

Of course, if Aisen could buy a bag enchanted with the Undetectable Extension Charm and put everything inside, he wouldn't have these worries.

Unfortunately, he couldn't get one right now. And as for the Undetectable Extension Charm itself—Aisen obviously couldn't cast it yet.
