Looking at the "impenetrable" fortress in the distance, the shimmering energy barriers seemed to seep into Imaginary Space. Unknown weapons were mounted atop the city walls, and countless red-named elite mobs patrolled in orderly ranks.
Kaito was completely stunned. Is this the kind of progression you get from just three hours of idling?
"Benares!"
He gave a loud shout. Benares raised its head, and Kaito noticed the dragon seemed to possess a bit more... emotion than before.
"Time for the Honkai to descend!"
Herrscher?
So what if I'm a Herrscher!
Elysia acts out because she's his sister; Kaito doesn't want to hit her. She's got a mental condition, so he just humors her. But if anyone else tried to tell him, "Have you ever thought that characters have their own lives?"—Kaito would slap them into the wall.
When playing a single-player game, I am God! This is my world! I play games to feel powerful! If I didn't want a hack-and-slash, I'd go play some dating sim!
Progression? Plot? I don't care! If I wanted to experience those, I'd play a Triple-A masterpiece. I'm playing this "trash" game because I want to kill, kill, kill!
Snap!
With a crisp snap of his fingers, ripples spread through the air. White-and-purple Honkai Beasts began to descend, dropping straight from the sky.
The high-end energy barriers flickered under the assault. Kaito let out a cold snort.
"You want to challenge my stamina? Buddy, I'm the Herrscher of the Void!"
The only existence connected to Imaginary Space, with mana regeneration speeds that broke all logic.
The ripples shifted, no longer spawning beasts. Dark gold portals fully manifested—not even taking time to stabilize—as pure energy began to storm the area.
The multi-colored energy shields of the defense line flickered violently. Damage appeared at the corners, barely replenishing before the next hit.
Inside the Defense Line.
"Wait? Wait until he completely drains the city's energy reserves? Wait until we have no choice but to build high walls out of our own flesh and blood?"
Kevin held a massive greatsword to the neck of the supreme commander.
"Counter-attack. Now!"
As the most successful Stigma Soldier to date, Kevin's words carried the weight of absolute authority.
"Kevin! This violates international conventions! You can't afford the price of failure!"
The man screamed, but Kevin simply swiped the flat of his heavy blade, leaving the man clutching his stomach and dry-heaving.
Kevin glanced at him with a hint of pity. "Sometimes, recklessness is closer to bravery than cowardice is. And in a war to slay gods, bravery is merely the ticket to enter the arena."
"But you... it seems you've let the phrase 'self-preservation' overwrite everything else in your long lives."
Regardless, Kevin couldn't imagine a scenario where they won a war of attrition against a Herrscher.
Some people hallucinated that the Herrscher would empty his mana bar through recklessness, but Mei had told him: Imaginary energy converts into Honkai energy at an incomprehensible speed.
That report had been suppressed because it was "too damaging to morale."
Suppression was one thing—you do need to keep spirits up—but how did they manage to trick themselves with their own lies?
They actually thought they could outlast a Herrscher.
"Commence the counter-attack!"
After giving the order, he walked out of the war room, his sword tip carving a shallow trench into the floor.
Naturally, no one asked why. This was a battlefield. Those with spirit had been waiting for this, and those without it certainly weren't going to disobey a direct superior.
Outside the corridor, Elysia held her bow, her eyes closed as she waited.
The "friends" had gathered. The Professor had moved to the rear. It was time to show that "Fake Kaito" outside what for.
"What's the plan?"
"We have to interrupt the Herrscher's channel. If the barrier goes down, we're as good as dead."
Kevin understood perfectly. He even came up with a "crazy idea."
"I've got a crazy idea."
Elysia blinked. A "crazy idea"?
But Kevin smiled brightly, looking like the prospect of saving the world made him... exceptionally excited.
The Savior is here!
A few minutes later, Elysia drew her bow to full tension atop the city walls. A pink dome manifested in the distant sky, but that kind of delayed attack was far too slow for Kaito.
And...
"I knew you'd be here! Boss!"
Kaito wore a cruel smile. Now that he had near-constant Super Armor, he wasn't worried about being comboed to death.
Arrows whistled through the air, but this time, they weren't aimed at the dome in the sky.
A change in tactics?
The pouring void energy paused briefly. Kaito casually snapped his fingers again. A void ripple appeared in front of him, swallowing the arrows whole.
The second, the third...
Until four arrows had vanished. The moment Kaito canceled the ripple, a greatsword was already pressed against his chest.
Kevin shouted with excitement: "It's over!"
Perfect coordination! Kevin, having successfully exploited the blind spot, began to smirk—only for it to "freeze."
"Freeze" wasn't quite the right word. Under Time Fracture, all his movements became agonizingly slow. He could clearly see the Herrscher's sneer.
The Stigma Project had only just begun. The weight of the "Soul Wanderers" hadn't been anchored yet. The "possibilities" granted to him by the Stigma Soldiers were simply too low. Even a genius needs time to level up.
"It is over."
Kaito chuckled. Time Fracture ended, but he had already phase-shifted behind Kevin. A void lance in his hand solidified instantly, piercing through flesh and bone.

Kaito was ready to resume his massacre and get some hack-and-slash done, but... Wait, how are you still alive?
Narrowly dodging a blast of cold air from behind, Kaito blinked higher into the sky.
"You can fly too?"
Apparently not.
Kaito watched as the man plummeted. Blood seemed to flow "upward" in the air—though it was just because the man was falling so fast.
"Kevin!"
Elysia was devastated.
Damn it, you can't trust a single one of a man's 'crazy ideas.' I should have realized that back when I listened to Kaito's 'crazy idea' to skip class and ended up getting a school-wide reprimand.
A pink silhouette darted out like a ghost. Kaito waited, counting silently until the moment she caught the new boss.
BOOM—!
"Your base code is really simple."
Back when he fought the masked boss, he had shown his ability for secondary resonance. With the technology these mobs were showing, they definitely had recordings of that.
So why charge out so recklessly? Impatience? Or... were they trying to grasp a sliver of impossible hope?
"I see. So this is your friendship, bonds, dreams, and future? I acknowledge you! Boss!"
But then again...
Kaito mused, "People who value 'bonds' are so easy to bully..."
It felt wrong to think that way, but now that you're out here, what happens to the defense line?
Even if I wanted to watch the show, I've got kin to feed!
Another crisp snap of the fingers. Before Elysia could recover from the bloody sight before her, and while the defense line was wide open after dropping its shield for the counter-attack... a massive demon dragon descended from the Void.
It was strange—maybe there was a small game update—but ever since that white-haired boss died, the electronic music in his ears had gotten a lot quieter.
Seconds later:
[Benares has left the battlefield]
???
Kaito froze. What kind of system notification just popped up?
Where did my cool demon dragon go?
