Chapter 1 - 1) Cogs of Fate

"Come on man, can you go any faster?!" The young man in the back seat of a cab snapped at the cab driver.

One glance at the young man and anyone would wonder, why someone dressed in such expensive clothes was taking a cab—a tailored suit, a diamond-studded antique watch, high end leather shoes.

"What is wrong with you youngsters! Never valuing time." The old cab driver sighed in disappointment. "Young man, you should learn to be more organized. If you need to be somewhere, you should leave an hour early."

"Seriously? Do you think YOU, of all the people, have the right to lecture me about time management? You were twenty minutes late...

He let out a frustrated breath.

"Look, old man, I need to get there by ten and it's already 9:50. How about this? If you get me there on time, I'll give you double the total fare and triple the normal tip?"

The driver's eye lit up. He pressed down hard on the accelerator.

"Don't forget what you said just now young man. You can trust this old driver. I've been on these roads for thirty years."

The cab shot forward, weaving through the city, cutting through alleys and back streets the young man didn't even know existed.

After some time—

Screech

"See? 8 minutes. We've arrived." The cab rolled to a stop in front of the tallest skyscraper in the city.

"Thanks, old man. You saved my ass... Well, none of this would've happened if my car hadn't broken down— or if you had shown up on time."

He shook his head.

"But that's just life, right? Bunch of unpredictable events that become even more unpredictable the harder you try to predict them." The man ranted, clearly forgetting the fact he getting late.

"Hell! One moment you can be contemplating the meaning of life and the next thing you know is a truck is heading towards you wiping you from the face of Earth. Anyways, here's your money old ma—

~HONK HONK HONK~

~Screeeeech~ BOOOOOM~

'Well shit!' he thought as he saw a truck colliding with the cab he was sitting in.

...

"Chain him and bring him to my dinghy. I've got a meeting with the Reaper of Planet Xoxoxoed. I'll drop this one at the Reincarnation Well on the way. You lot handle the rest of today's souls. Understood?"

"Yes, Sir DeathsAlot. Your orders are our command."

An unknown amount of time later, the young man slowly opened his eyes.

White light filled his vision.

"Ugh… am I in heaven?"

"Ha! You wish."

A chubby figure appeared out of nowhere. His face was obscured by drifting white mist, like clouds refusing to decide on a shape. As the young man's vision adjusted, he realized he was chained to the railing of a small white dinghy made of some smooth, unfamiliar material.

They were flying.

Through space.

Stars shimmered in every direction.

The young man blinked.

"Mere mortal," the chubby figure declared proudly, "you are dead. You are currently en route to the Reincarnation Well. Consider yourself honored. You are being escorted personally by the handsome and powerful Sir DeathsAlot."

Reincarnation is real?!

And why the hell am I alone? Did the driver survive?

What are the odds I joke about dying and then— boom?

AND WHO THE HELL IS SIR DEATHSALOT?!

"HAHAHAHA!" the figure boomed. "I see confusion in your soul. You must have many questions. Sadly, you are not worthy of answers. But you are worthy of learning about me."

He puffed out his chest.

"I, Sir DeathsAlot, am the most talented, handsome, and famous reaper in the outer universe! Soon my sect will send me to Laniakea as the greatest young genius of my planet!"

'Laniakea? What about the Milky Way?

And how is he reading my thoughts?!'

The young man took a slow breath. Panic was clearly useless. Time to adapt.

"Sir… you can read minds? As expected of the great and handsome Sir DeathsAlot! Sir, I have come to deeply admire your magnificence. Please allow me to serve you. Just don't send me to the Reincarnation Well!"

Sir DeathsAlot slapped his enormous belly, sending visible ripples through what could only be described as supernatural fat reserves.

"Hahaha! Mortal soul, you amuse me. But alas… you are unqualified. You are not even worthy of carrying the shoes of my servant's servant."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*Laniakea*

A beautiful woman with long black silky hair, big enchanting eyes, dressed in ancient golden dress stood on the peak of a mountain, a giant white dog barking excitedly beside her.

The white dog had three heads and nine tails.

"Go Bai Bai! Fetch!" The woman pulled a giant bone from her sleeve and launched it the air with the full strength of her cultivation.

Whoosh!! Whoosh!!

The bone accelerated turning into a streak of light and soon tore through the very fabric of space—disappearing into the void.

"Woof! Wooof! Rrrff!" The three heads of the white dog barked and leaped into air, chasing the bone.

"Ha, it's been five hundred years," The woman sighed, as she stared at the sun. "I don't even know how he is doing. The last time I ever heard of him was in the outer circle of universe." Her eyes filled with melancholy.

"I still remember... Escaping the chase of a nascent soul cultivator after unearthing the immortal treasure we found together... Where are you Long Chen? I finally realised that I can't live without you" Tears started streaming down the woman's face.

'But I realised it too late, soon I will have to marry that Young Master of Fang Family. Hmph! Who does he think he is?'

"LeiLei, why are you crying? Did someone make you unhappy? Tell me, who bullied you?" A man appeared beside her.

'It's YOU! All because of you' she thought.

"Hmmph! don't call me LeiLei anymore. Call me Mei Lei from now on." Mei Lei glared coldly at the man. "Fang Ryuu, I don't want to marry you. I don't love you and I never will. My hearts belongs to someone else and even if you force me to marry you, I will never be truly yours."

Each word struck Fang Ryuu's heart deeper than a knife, he became pale, his eyes losing their light.

Before long the man had lost his reason—and crashed out.

"F-f-five! Five hundred years!" He stated, a wild fire burning in his eyes. "For 500 I have been trying to make this work. You know LeiLei, when I first found out that I had a fiancée I was quite confused and conflicted. Not being able to choose your own partner and having to marry someone you don't know was quite frustrating."

He took a deep breath before continuing.

"But all those thoughts were gone when I met you and got to know you. Slowly, I stared seeing a future with you AND LeiLei you didn't object to it, not even once... you just kept on misleading me."

Fang Ryuu's throat felt try, tears falling down his face.

"LeiLei if you didn't want marry me then why are you only telling me this just 5 months before our ceremony?? Why LeiLei ? WHY NOW!" Fang Ryuu's screamed at Mei Lei.

"I tried Fang Ryuu... I tried so hard... to accept you and forget him but I just couldn't and now I have finally realised that I just can't let him go."

"YOU! YOU!" Fang Ryuu finally couldn't handle it.

His soul shook and he fainted, spurting out a mouthful of blood.

"I'm sorry Ryuu. I really am but I just can't forget about the time I spent with him and I can't imagine a life without him."

Mei Lei waved her hand and disappeared leaving the man lying down on the cold grass filled ground.

Meanwhile—

The bone thrown by Mei Lei was still drifting through the space, flying toward a small dinghy.

"Hah! Looks like I'm really dead. Well I should not have taken my life for granted. But looking on the bright side I still have a shot at reincarnation. Not like a meteor is going to come hit this boat and destroy my soul. HAHAHA"

Sir DeathsAlot slapped his chubby belly and laughed out loudly.

"Haha! You are right, I quite like you. I will pull some strings wi—"

WhooOOOSH!

"Well shit!"

Booooom!
