Chapter 70 - Chapter 70: Admiral vs. Emperor

Chapter 70: Admiral vs. Emperor

Among the three Admirals, the one who often seemed the most detached and lazy—Kizaru—was perhaps the most formidable. Possessing the world's fastest speed, the explosive power of his lasers was immense, arguably no weaker than magma. With such speed, he barely needed defense. If he wished, he could remain untouchable.

Now, standing before Satoru, Kizaru projected an aura of absolute, if casual, security.

"It's you, Yellow Monkey," Kaido growled, his tone hostile. Though Kizaru's earlier light barrage hadn't caused lasting damage, it had inflicted sharp, stinging pain.

"I don't like being called that~ Beast Kaido," Kizaru drawled. He pointed a finger at Kaido.

Pew!

A laser shot out. Kaido swung his club, deflecting the beam. It detonated elsewhere within the G-8 base, making Satoru's eye twitch. Both of these men were walking natural disasters. He decided then: after this was over, he'd capture more pirates for labor. He'd rebuild G-8 into something new and better as fast as possible.

"Tsk. You really are a tough guy~" Kizaru clicked his tongue. "But I'm not about to lose. Ama no Murakumo."

He extended both hands. A golden sword of pure light materialized in his grip. Satoru felt a flicker of envy. A lightsaber was undeniably cool. In his past life, playing games, his favorite character was always the sword-wielding class, especially ones with energy blades.

Kizaru transformed into a stream of light, charging Kaido. The next second, the light-sword clashed with Kaido's spiked club. In mere seconds, they'd exchanged dozens of blows. Though Kizaru's pure physical skills were considered weak among Admirals, his swordsmanship was exceptional—likely at the level of a Sword Master. He rarely needed it, as his Devil Fruit power usually sufficed.

Satoru watched unblinkingly. Currently, Kizaru held a slight edge. Speed equaled power. Kizaru's sword strikes were blindingly fast, generating tremendous force. Kaido couldn't match that speed and was forced onto the defensive.

But Kaido wasn't going all out. He wasn't using his Devil Fruit powers, fighting purely with his base strength. A proud Emperor like Kaido wouldn't endure such a frustrating fight for long.

Kaido suddenly opened his maw. A blast of scorching Bolo Breath erupted toward Kizaru's position. Not in his dragon form, the breath's power was reduced, but it was more than enough for a surprise attack.

The flames subsided, revealing melted ground. Kizaru was gone.

Suddenly, a golden light flashed above Kaido. An arm extended from it, index finger pointed at Kaido's head.

"You know~ I'm actually quite good at sneak attacks."

BOOM!

A laser exploded point-blank against Kaido's skull. Even with Armament Haki defending, the concussive force staggered the giant.

"It's not over yet, Kaido~"

Countless points of golden light ignited around Kaido. From each, a laser fired simultaneously, hammering his body from all sides.

BOOM-BOOM-BOOM-BOOM!

Explosions wracked Kaido's form.

"Really brutal," Satoru murmured, learning from the spectacle. Kizaru's style—direct and underhanded, using speed to control the flow—was something to study.

As the smoke cleared, parts of Kaido's body were charred, steam rising from his skin.

Kizaru re-materialized, but Satoru noticed the Admiral's condition wasn't optimal. That last move had clearly drained him; his breathing was slightly uneven. A patch of his hair was singed—likely from Kaido's breath attack. He hadn't dodged completely unscathed.

The attack had wounded Kaido. Not seriously, but enough to enrage him.

Kaido lifted his head, eyes burning with bloody fury. His gaze promised to tear Kizaru apart.

"Such a monstrously tough hide~" Kizaru sighed, seeing Kaido only lightly injured.

"Admiral Kizaru, can you not handle him?" Satoru's voice came, laced with innocent curiosity.

Kizaru's eye twitched. This kid's mouth is something else.

"How can a man say he can't? The real fight is just starting~"

Clearly, Kizaru hadn't been serious before.

"It seems I'll have to use Awakening to deal with him~ A Yonko, truly a troublesome existence."

This was Kizaru's first encounter with Kaido, his first real clash with a Yonko. He'd never fought the other three before the title was established. He knew they were strong, but the exact extent of the gap was unknown.

Now, he saw it. Kaido's strength was staggering. The others must be similar. Thinking of three more monsters like this on the seas, he almost felt sorry for Sengoku.

He'd seen the gap. He couldn't win alone. He'd need another Admiral's help to even have a chance, and even then, it would be slim. The weight of the title 'Four Emperors' settled heavily in the air. The stalemate between the world's fastest light and an unkillable beast was about to escalate to a new, devastating level.
