Chapter 69: The Admiral Arrives
Kaido drew his weapon—a massive, spiked club. He swung it down at Satoru, the club sheathed in Advanced Conqueror's Haki. Satoru didn't dare block it. He used Blue to teleport away instantly. The weapon cratered the ground, shaking the entire G-8 base violently. A few more hits like that, and the base might sink into the sea.
But Satoru had no choice. Unarmed Kaido was a struggle. Armed Kaido could break him with one solid hit. Faced with protecting his own body or the base, Satoru chose his body. The base could be rebuilt. His body, if severely injured, would take time to heal.
"Little brat! Stop running if you have the guts!" Kaido roared, irritated by Satoru's instantaneous teleportation. If Satoru wanted to evade, Kaido had no way to catch him. The speed involved spatial manipulation, something Kaido couldn't counter.
"You think I'm stupid? Wait there to get hit? I don't have that kind of hobby."
Satoru's goal now was to stall until reinforcements arrived. It wouldn't be long. Among the three Admirals, one was particularly adept at rapid response.
"You've really pissed me off, imp!"
Kaido's face was a mask of rage.
"Thunder Bagua!"
He raised his club. A lightning bolt streaked from the stormy sky and struck the weapon, wrapping it in crackling electricity. He swung downward, and a devastating wave of thunderous force shot toward Satoru.
"This bastard really wants to destroy my base!"
This was a Conqueror's Haki-infused Thunder Bagua. Satoru could dodge, but behind him was the base's port, where all the G-8 Marines were gathered. If he moved, half of them would be injured or killed by the shockwave.
"Cursed Technique Lapse: Maximum Output Blue!"
He had no choice but to block it. A sphere of violent blue energy materialized before him, intercepting Kaido's attack.
The two colossal energies collided, making the very air scream.
Kaido's eyes narrowed at the sudden energy sphere. He felt a terrifying suction from it, his Thunder Bagua's power being drawn in and consumed.
A blinding white light erupted. When it faded, not only was Kaido's attack gone, but the surrounding ruined structures had also vanished.
Satoru's face was pale. While Infinity minimized Cursed Energy cost, the mental strain was immense.
"This brat..." Kaido's gaze turned murderous. Such a person could not be allowed to live.
At that moment, a dazzling golden light flashed above them.
"Yasakani no Magatama."
A familiar, drawn-out voice echoed. A dense hail of laser beams rained down on Kaido.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM-BOOM-BOOM!
Explosions rocked Kaido's body, forcing him back step by step. The attack's area was so vast that even Kaido's massive frame was insignificant in comparison.
Satoru's expression soured further. His fight with Kaido had already wrecked the base. This new attack devastated it further.
The Marines at the port saw the brilliant lasers and heard the relentless explosions.
"It's Admiral Kizaru! Reinforcements from Headquarters are here!" someone shouted. In the Marines, only Kizaru could unleash such an attack.
"We're saved!" A wave of relief swept through the ranks. An Admiral represented the Navy's pinnacle of power. They believed that no enemy, however strong, could stand against an Admiral. This was the faith, responsibility, and trust an Admiral inspired in every ordinary Marine—a figure they could entrust their lives to.
As the laser light faded, Kizaru materialized as a stream of golden particles in front of Satoru.
"Yo~ Long time no see, kid. I really didn't expect you to pick a fight with such a powerful enemy," Kizaru said, hands in his pockets, his tone as nonchalant as ever. Even with a monstrous enemy present, nothing seemed to ruffle him.
"Wasn't by choice," Satoru sighed. "But he started it." The thrill of the fight was one thing, but the anger at the destruction was real. He'd been sitting in his office, his eyelid twitching, and then Kaido fell from the sky. What was he supposed to do?
"But never mind~ Just sit back and watch. I'll handle the rest."
Kizaru took a step forward. Putting aside his usual demeanor, at this moment, he cut an impressively commanding figure.
The smoke cleared around Kaido, revealing him once more. Kizaru's attack had been powerful and destructive, yet Kaido bore no visible injury. If anything, the Admiral's arrival had only stoked Kaido's fighting spirit hotter. The Kaido facing Kizaru now was on a completely different level from the one who'd been toying with Satoru moments before. The true clash of top-tiers was about to begin.
