"Alright, class, you have a month to complete your final assignment, and be sure to catch up if you're behind, please." A month before it's over. My grade currently sits at an 86%, but if I don't watch it, I can easily end up getting a C. I'm in the back of the classroom, my pencil sitting between my lips, because I'm already bored 15 minutes into this lecture. Usually, I would've been on my laptop watching a couple's drama show on YouTube, but I'm not feeling that today.
When class ended, I rushed so I wouldn't be the last one out. It's awkward when you are because the professor literally watches you leave. Even more awkward to not say anything when leaving. So you kinda have to say bye even if you don't want to.
"Um, Professor?" One of my classmates in the middle row raised her hand. "Yes?" he answered, looking up from his desk. "Um, I was wondering if it would be okay if some of us worked in a group? Just to help finish our individual projects?" Two of her other friends stopped waiting for his answer. "Hmm, yeah. Everyone, if you want to work in groups, you're allowed to do so as long as you're not submitting the same project." Some people looked happy, and the little cheers could be heard as I walked out.
I don't want to sound like a loser and say I made no friends in that class, but I made literally no friends in that class. And I know it's my fault, so there's no reason to be disheartened by that, but the little feeling of disappointment in myself pops up anyway.
I stopped by the cafe to get an iced coffee and headed to the library. At my favorite table, far away, in a corner, hidden by a tall bookshelf in the back.
Scrolling through my homepage, my grades, and the calendar, I literally have two weeks until this is over, and then it's winter break. I didn't go anywhere during that break last year, and I don't plan on going anywhere this break either.
Well, after an hour or so of doing nothing but daydreaming, it was a bust. I got perhaps one good idea, but I was getting tired even though it was only 1 pm. I headed out of the cool library to the cool outside. My nose started running a bit, but I still kept thinking about getting more iced coffee when I don't need it.
Heading back to my dorms on the other side, I saw Damien walking in the opposite direction. I was just gonna leave, but he went into the Cafe, and I kinda want to talk to him…
Other students walked past and around me while I stood still, deciding if it would be too clingy to just follow him, or what would happen if that's normal, and he would be happy to see me as well? But what happens if he planned on being alone and I ended up disturbing him….
I made a turn and walked to the other side of the bridge to the cafe. Yeah, I'm just gonna say hi at least.
Walking inside, I got a few glances my way, maybe it's because I came in here earlier? No, they always do that. I spotted him with a group of others. Oh, this might've been a bad idea; they were talking, and he was eating, not really engaging with them, staring at his phone. He doesn't look like he's having all that fun, but at the same time… intimidating. What the heck, but if I want to turn around and walk straight out, the people who just saw me would call me weird. Oh my god… My heart rate started to increase as I stupidly approached their table. People are scary, I can't help it!
There were two other guys and two girls. One of the girls had eyes locked on him, but he wasn't paying her any attention.
Everyone stopped talking, and I guess the sudden peace and quiet caused Damien to finally look up and around from his phone. Then, when we made eye contact, his face seemed to relax as he put his phone in his pocket. Now I don't feel so stupid. "Hi?" One of the girls said, kinda confused, which is understandable because they don't know me, and I walked up to them. "Um hi-i." I stuttered.
"Were you always in here?" Damien asked as he closed his laptop and stood up. "Oh… I just saw you outside earlier and wanted to say hi because going to my dorm, haha." I wanted him to sit down, but why was he getting up?
"Already? I can walk with you there." He said the confusion on everyone's faces, wondering what's going on, who is this stranger (me). "Oh, I mean, no, you're good like you're busy here, dude. I fr just wanted to say hello." I rambled.
Well, he really didn't stop, stepped across the girl he was sitting next to.
"Bro, you're leaving us already?? You just got here? And you were late!" One of the guys stated while the other laughed. Damien rolled his eyes. "I told you I was coming, I never said I would stay," he started walking off, waving bye with his back turned. I looked at the group, and since I had nothing to say to them, I just caught up to him. He said bye for the both of us..
