Chapter 73 – "The Fall and the Fool"
They stood there, frozen.
The satellite feed flickered. Red lightning danced on the screen, then faded.
Then—blackness.
But just before the feed died, they saw it.
Dante.
Still.
His power—gone.
His body—limp.
Eyes—closed.
Floating in space, surrounded by the shattered remains of the Dominators' fleet.
He was falling.
Down. Toward Earth.
But that wasn't possible.
"Wait—he's falling?" Cisco blinked, slapping the screen. "That doesn't make sense! You can't just fall in space!"
Martin narrowed his eyes. "Unless… he's generating a gravitational pull."
"His power output must've collapsed in on itself," Wells muttered, half in awe, half in dread. "He's... too heavy now. He's being pulled."
Barry's face paled. "At that speed—he'll burn up before he even reaches the atmosphere."
Everyone froze.
And then—
FWOOOOOSH.
Kara was gone.
---
The wind cracked like thunder.
Supergirl cut through the sky like a bullet.
Higher. Faster.
Above clouds. Past the ozone. Past the vacuum.
Out into the quiet death of space.
And there—she saw him.
Dante.
His black-and-red suit was shredded, soaked in blood. His arms dangled at his sides.
All around him—the shattered graveyard of Dominator warships, nothing but ash and twisted metal.
But what hit Kara the hardest wasn't the destruction.
It was how fast he was falling.
He wasn't drifting like a space corpse.
He was plummeting.
Like a meteor.
Her eyes widened. "What the hell?"
Space wasn't supposed to have gravity—not like this. Not this fast.
But Dante's body glowed red—not from lightning, not from blood.
He was literally on fire.
Kara narrowed her eyes, pushing forward.
He broke through the invisible edge of Earth's upper atmosphere—
The heat intensified.
Booming flames licked across his chest. His skin cracked under the pressure.
Kara raced after him, pushing faster than she ever had before.
Down below, Central City was just beginning to blink into view.
> "Come on… come on…"
She dove.
Just before he could hit the ground—
She caught him.
Both arms wrapped around his broken body.
Her feet slammed into the earth just outside STAR Labs with so much force—
The ground cracked.
Chunks of pavement shattered under her boots.
But she held him.
Tightly.
Gently.
Like he was made of glass and fire at the same time.
---
The door to STAR Labs burst open.
Barry. Cisco. Sara. Ronnie. Kate. Everyone.
They all ran to them.
Kara still hadn't moved.
She just stared at him, breathing hard, eyes wide.
He was still glowing—his skin ember-red, steam rising from him.
And then—
He opened his eyes.
Slowly. Lazily.
His pupils darted around—then focused.
On her.
On Kara.
She was panting, her hair a mess, her face flushed.
Dante blinked once.
Then smirked.
> "...Did I die and wake up in Disney World?"
Everyone blinked.
> "Am I the princess?" he asked, voice raspy. "And you're the prince?"
Silence.
Utter silence.
Kara opened her mouth—but nothing came out.
Dante sighed, folding his hands behind his head, still in her arms like it was the most natural place in the world.
> "You know," he continued, "I always thought I'd be the main villain. Like, obsessed with the princess who only loves the hero."
> "So I kill them both in a fit of poetic tragedy. Very Shakespeare meets CW."
He tilted his head, then raised an eyebrow at Kara.
> "But hey. I could go with this ending instead."
> "My prince."
He grinned.
Kara blushed.
Everyone else?
Broke into laughter.
Loud. Unfiltered. Ridiculous laughter.
Barry leaned forward, hands on his knees, gasping. "Dude. You were just… red doom two minutes ago!"
Ronnie was wheezing. "And now you're a Disney princess?"
Cisco nearly fell over. "Kara, you caught a flaming space psychopath and now he's flirting with you."
Sara chuckled. "You have a type."
Kara rolled her eyes—but couldn't stop smiling.
> "You're insane," she muttered.
> "You're hot," Dante replied.
She looked at him.
> "As in, literally. You're on fire."
> "Then stop holding me, Kara Kent, or I'll melt your suit."
She flushed brighter. "It's Kara Zor-El, thank you very much."
> "Bless you," Dante whispered.
She dropped him.
He groaned as he hit the cracked Earth. "Ow."
"I warned you," she said sweetly.
---
They got him inside STAR Labs.
Ronnie and Martin helped stabilize his vitals.
Cisco monitored the energy readings. "His core's cooled down a little, but he's still radiating more power than our fusion reactor."
Barry sat beside him while he rested on a medical table, eyes half-lidded, one arm draped across his face.
> "So," Barry said casually. "You good?"
> "Define good," Dante replied. "If you mean 'murdered an entire species while screaming like a metal concert,' then yeah. I'm peachy."
Barry raised an eyebrow. "You scared everyone, you know."
Dante peeked at him.
> "Did I scare you?"
Barry hesitated.
Then shook his head. "No. I know you. You weren't out of control. You were just… finally free."
Dante smirked. "That's dangerously insightful of you, Allen."
Barry leaned closer. "But don't do that again."
> "Destroy a space fleet?"
> "Fall out of orbit."
> "Oh. Yeah. That was… dramatic, huh?"
Barry looked at him.
> "Dude. You were on fire."
> "It's called making an entrance."
---
Later that night, they sat in the main lounge.
Everyone was recovering. Eating. Laughing.
Dante had a blanket over his shoulders like a cape. He refused to change out of his half-burned suit.
"I look cool," he insisted. "Like half warlord, half tragic romantic lead."
Kara sat beside him with a smirk.
"So… tragic romantic lead?"
> "Mmhmm."
> "Want a happy ending?"
Dante looked at her.
Seriously. For just a second.
Then smiled.
> "I wouldn't mind a few chapters first."
She blushed again.
Sara whistled. "Smooth."
Cisco clinked his drink with Ronnie. "Five bucks says he flirts again before sunrise."
> "Double it," Ronnie said. "He'll propose."
---
And as the stars glowed above—
Dante leaned back on the couch, finally relaxed.
Still cracked, still bruised.
But safe.
Alive.
Home.
And somehow—
> The Red Doom had become something else.
Someone they could laugh with.
Someone they could believe in.
Someone who just might not be the villain of his own story.
