From the memories of the previous inhabitant of his body, Matthew realised that the concerned couple who were chatting with the doctor were his parents. His father's name was Andre Mercer. He was a green eyed man at the age of 38. His mother's name was Emily Mercer who was 36 year old, while his current name was Evan Mercer. He had an uncle named Wade Mercer. Evan was a green eyed blond haired 16 year old boy. Evan also had a 12 year old sister whose name was Sofia Mercer and a grandfather who was 74 years old.
Matthew sat on his bed. His mother stopped talking to the doctor and turned towards him. Her blond hair sparkled under the Sun. She teared up and hugged Matthew. "My son, I thought that you are never going to wake up again". "Aun-Mom I am fine. My head will heal up soon."
What Evan's family didn't know was that Evan had already died. The consciousness inhabiting his body now is Matthew. For the shake of his new family and to prevent any further complications, Matthew decided to pretend to be Evan Mercer. "Mom I am hungry. For how long have I been unconscious?"
Emily smiled "yes sweetheart, I shall bring your food right away. You must be starving as you haven't eaten anything for over two days." She left his bedside and went towards the kitchen. Andre asked the doctor "how long will it take for him to recover completely?" The doctor replied "it should take a month for him to heal completely. He needs plenty of rest and give him these medicines at proper time interval. We shall take our leave." With that the doctor and the nurse left.
Andre said "son congratulations on waking up. Your sister and grandpa Travis are going to be delighted to hear the news. Though I must say that I am disappointed in your behaviour. I know that you have just become an adult and want to prove yourself, but without awakening mana or having sufficient training you shouldn't go challenging any monster." Evan's sister had recently awakened mana, while Evan hadn't. This made Evan feel that he was worthless. Hence he decided to test himself. Two days earlier Evan left his house on his own at night. He went outside the town where his family rented an house and went to the nearby forest. There he was searching to find a monster to kill. On his path he encountered a dire wolf. He got scared and started running away. But the dire wolf was faster. The dire wolf caught upto him and bit into the backside of his head. Evan screamed in pain. Luckily an old hunter who has come to the forest to hunt wild beasts found the dire wolf and Evan. The hunter killed the dire wolf and picked up Evan. He took Evan's body back to the town where Travis Mercer found the hunter and brought Evan's body home.
Matthew replied "but dad even my sister has awakened mana and can use it to increase her speed and agility. I was jealous of her as I hadn't awakened my mana back then. However that doesn't matter anymore as I have already awakened mana." "Oh, so you have awakened mana. So can you do anything with it?" "Yes, I can use it to sense the presence of people and monsters with mana in them and also sense their abilities." "How far can you sense?" "Not very far just 15m." "Well that's a very specific number. How did you know that?" "Umh... I meant it should be around that number "
"You two Stop talking about powers all the time. My boy has just become conscious after two days and must be starving. Here you go son, I have brought your food." Emily Mercer brought a plate with bread, pork and apple on it. She gave the plate to Evan. Matthew took the plate and started eating. "How does the food taste sweetheart?" "It is great as always mom." Matthew quickly ate the food.
"Dad now that I have awakened mana can I join you and my sister to train?" Matthew wanted to train his new found ability and complete his first quest. He learnt about it from The Versatile Warrior System. It was only when he learned about the ability assimilatior and his first ability that he understood his full potential . Everything Matthew saw the system he grew ecstatic. It appeared as an interface on his retina, that was invisible to everyone else. He predicted that it would allow him to become infinitely stronger than his current self. He would no longer be a pathetic loner like his previous life. He could use his powers to protect his family and loved ones from danger. Matthew was very grateful to The Primordial Consciousness. He wanted to finish the first quest right away. At the same time he felt sad for Evan. Evan died for nothing. He would have awakened mana eventually due to his lineage.
Andre said "later son. Your grandpa, uncle, and I are busy these days to earn the Kailashya gate ticket for our family. By selling most of our wealth and earning a bit more we will finally be able to use the ticket to start a new life in the great beyond. The Mercer family currently stayed at the Grand Duchy of Cymra. This was a pitstop before they reached the Kailashya mountain range. The Mercer family had left their previous home because it lacked upward social mobility, was peaceful and stagnant. But all of that changed once they heard that the Kailashya gate was open for exploration and colonisation. Matthew was very excited about the gate. His days of action and adventure were about to begin.
