Chapter 45 - Chapter 45: Taking the Fight to Their Doorstep

Wilson Grant Fisk, better known as the Kingpin.

The biggest gang leader in New York, the ruler of Hell's Kitchen's underworld.

Although he hadn't yet stepped into the light as a philanthropic real estate tycoon with the glamorous Fisk Tower famous throughout New York...

With his current status and influence, he naturally wouldn't live like ordinary thugs, moving from place to place or hiding in the shadows.

In fact, his daily whereabouts were an open secret in Hell's Kitchen.

In the northern part of Hell's Kitchen, near the Hudson River at 311 West 50th Street, Manhattan, a luxurious building converted from a medium-sized warehouse served as Kingpin's residence and the true command center of his criminal empire.

However, even though more than half of the gangsters in Hell's Kitchen knew this was Kingpin's lair, no one had ever thought of launching a sneak attack or retaliating against him here.

Simply because those who had such thoughts had long since died at the hands of Kingpin and his men.

Yet tonight, an ordinary-looking mobile news van silently drove near this building.

As the news van slowly came to a stop, an unassuming flexible camera probe extended inch by inch from an opening in the vehicle's roof.

"Damn, this is just a gang leader's lair? A warehouse converted so luxuriously, complete with barbed wire and watchtowers? Talk about mismatched styles!"

Inside the news van, Green Bull, sporting green hair, cursed quietly while watching the camera feed on a tablet.

Having previously engaged in either commercial assassinations or overseas mercenary missions, they hadn't expected New York gangs to have developed to this extent.

"Shut up. Check your equipment."

Shield Mountain, the captain of Turn A Squad, glared sternly at the chatty Green Bull, then asked Wrench in the driver's seat.

"Wrench, can you launch the drone now? We need to confirm enemy intel inside the building."

"Can do, Boss. But there are very few windows on the target, so I'm worried the intel might differ significantly from reality." In the driver's seat, Wrench, who had just turned on the electronic fogging mode for the windshield and pulled out a laptop from under his seat, replied hesitantly.

"It doesn't matter. Confirm the external situation first. As for the inside..."

Just as Shield Mountain was about to continue, another voice suddenly interjected, interrupting him.

"I'll handle the enemy intel inside the building."

It was Luca sitting in the passenger seat.

Before Wrench could ask how Luca planned to get enemy intel, Luca gently pinched the temple of his [Tracking Glasses].

With a thought, the glasses instantly connected to Wrench's laptop. The next moment, a crystal-clear infrared thermal image appeared on the computer screen.

Since Wrench's laptop screen was linked to everyone's tablets, the image was simultaneously shared with the entire squad.

"This... such clear thermal imaging? How many walls did this penetrate??? Is this new tech from the company? Wait! Master Luca, how did you connect directly to my computer system?"

Wrench, initially annoyed by Luca's interruption, now wore a face full of disbelief and fired off questions like a machine gun.

In the back of the van, Shamila's face beamed with pride.

As if to say, You guys are so easily surprised. The young master has plenty more tricks up his sleeve.

Shield Mountain, ignoring Shamila's reaction, reminded his teammate again.

"Wrench, shut up. Mission first!"

However, this time even he was shocked.

Shamila wasn't exaggerating when she called him the "most comprehensive special ops soldier" she had ever seen.

Shield Mountain also had considerable expertise in electronic information technology and equipment.

Because of this, he knew exactly how absurd this technology was—scanning through dozens of walls while keeping the thermal images of all walls and what was behind them clearly visible.

Even the most advanced military "multi-modal battlefield awareness systems" could only probe behind walls up to 20cm thick, and that wasn't just thermal imaging but a combination of infrared and millimeter-wave radar.

In fact, most thermal imagers were really just for observing enemies during night operations.

Like the monocular hanging on his helmet right now.

So, Aurantius Industries' technology has reached this level?

But this thought only flashed through Shield Mountain's mind. In his creed, mission priority trumped everything else.

He immediately asked about the others' readiness.

"Longbow, are you in position?"

"In position."

Longbow's cold and brief reply came through the headset.

At this moment, under a billboard on the roof of an abandoned building 300 meters away from Kingpin's lair...

Longbow secured his M24 SWS sniper rifle with a set of Nikon camera tripods, unfolded a portable chair, sat down, and quietly watched the scene through his scope.

Actually, 300 meters was far from Longbow's maximum range. However, for urban squad operations requiring proximity to teammates and the use of a specially suppressed barrel, he chose this location.

It's hunting time! One shot, one kill! No one can hide! Let's have some fun!

While silently reciting various lines in his head, Longbow's face remained impassive.

In the headset, Shield Mountain's voice continued.

"Green Bull..."

"Don't worry~ Captain~" Green Bull patted his HK416A5 assault rifle, grinning to reveal two rows of large teeth.

Shield Mountain glared at him and warned:

"Don't bring too many explosives. We won't need them for tonight's operation."

After that, he turned to Thresh, who was nervously biting his nails, and shook his head helplessly.

"Thresh, you make too much noise. Move only after we're exposed. And with this..."

Shield Mountain paused slightly, then looked at the tall robot beside him, encased in armor and curled up as much as possible to avoid bumping into anyone.

"Hello, I am Agent Baymax!" (▇━▇)

".....Right... Agent Baymax here. You move with him behind us first."

Finally, Shield Mountain racked the bolt of his M4A1 carbine, looked at Shamila who wielded the same weapon, and said softly.

"Wolf Spider, we two take point. Coordinate with Longbow to take out the guards on the watchtower first."

Hearing Shield Mountain use her codename, Shamila revealed a bloodthirsty smile.

"Understood, Captain!"
