Life in the sub-dimension finally began. This time, Makoto was truly serious about building a new city. Makoto and Shin planned the city's structure and design in detail, starting with the sewage system, deciding how large the city would be, and choosing the architectural style. For the sewage system, Makoto had many references, ranging from the systems used in ancient Rome to modern drainage systems he had read about in the library. After discussing it with Shin, they decided to combine elements of ancient Roman design with more modern concepts.
As for the city's overall design, Makoto and Shin chose a fusion of European and Asian styles for the buildings. From roads and parks to the structures themselves, Makoto had countless examples stored in his memory. He also asked Shin to look for materials that could be used to store and view memories, making it easier to retrieve the necessary information when the time came. Regarding the area to be developed, Makoto and Shin decided that for now they would only build a portion of it, enough for temporary residence until the city was fully completed.
After finishing the discussion with Shin, Makoto returned to his relaxed daily life. He would wake up in the morning, have breakfast, and practice magic until lunchtime. During the day, Makoto would walk around to observe the progress and make sure the Highland Orcs were adapting well to the sub-dimension's environment. He also helped several times by cutting down trees that were too large for them to handle. Cutting a tree with a diameter of 50 centimeters required two to three people and often destroyed several axes just to fell a single tree. For some reason, the trees in the sub-dimension were sturdier than those depicted in the anime. Perhaps this was because Makoto had studied biology in greater depth, including plant structures and components that were usually only studied by specialists.
When Makoto realized this, he could only laugh awkwardly while scratching his head. Although his knowledge caused the sub-dimension to contain a greater variety of plants and vegetation, it also made life there more dangerous if one was not careful. As a result, trees with a diameter of more than one meter were cut down only by Shin or Makoto, since trees that large had trunks so hard that ordinary axes could not cut them. As for the animals in the sub-dimension, Makoto observed various small creatures such as squirrels, rabbits, many kinds of birds, and harmless insects. However, at night he could hear wolves howling in the distance. Makoto thought that perhaps the aura emitted by Shin and himself caused more sensitive predatory animals to stay away, sensing the danger from afar.
Several days passed with Makoto's relaxed routine. One day, while he was walking around inspecting the Highland Orcs' work and helping cut down overly large trees using a knife given to him by Ema's father—after learning that the knife Makoto had been carrying was destroyed when he saved Ema from a monster—an accident happened. Even though Makoto was careful, his finger was still cut by the knife. As he sat down to bandage the wound on his hand, Makoto suddenly remembered the scene when he met Mio in the anime.
"How could such a coincidence happen right now?" Makoto muttered while shaking his head.
"Oh, Makoto-sama, is your hand injured? This is serious!" Shin said as he suddenly appeared, carrying a dwarf who looked extremely exhausted.
When Makoto saw Shin holding a dwarf in his arms, he could only let out a sigh. "What's bound to happen will happen," Makoto thought to himself. As Makoto stood up and looked toward Shin, a crack formed behind him. The crack gradually grew larger until a spider's leg emerged, tearing open a dimensional rift large enough for the enormous spider's entire body to pass through. The giant black spider immediately rushed toward Makoto after catching the intoxicating scent of blood.
Without hesitation, Makoto threw a fire spear at the massive spider, blasting it several meters backward. He then used Sakai to strengthen himself and erase his presence, swiftly charging toward the spider. When he reached beneath its huge body, Makoto delivered a powerful kick to its abdomen, sending it flying far away so their battle would not affect the Highland Orc settlement nearby.
Makoto chased the spider, which had been kicked hundreds of meters away.
"Who is that young man? He easily repelled and kicked away the calamity-class black spider," said the dwarf, sitting on the ground after Shin set him down.
"He is Makoto-sama, the ruler of this sub-dimension," Shin replied proudly.
Back to Makoto—after chasing the giant spider, he saw that it had already recovered from its earlier injuries. The spider fired sticky webs toward Makoto, but he dodged them and launched fire spears in rapid succession. Makoto then created a bow and arrows using water-element magic and concentrated an immense amount of magic at the tip of one arrow. As he focused his magic, the giant spider accelerated its regeneration by devouring the remnants of Makoto's magic. Soon after, Makoto released the arrow. It shot forward at tremendous speed, destroying everything in its path, piercing the giant spider, and continuing onward until it struck a distant mountain.
All that remained before Makoto was a deep chasm and a devastated area stretching toward the faraway mountains.
"Makoto-sama truly didn't hold back. I don't even know if I could survive that final attack," Shin said in shock and amazement. The dwarf beside him could only gape in stunned silence.
Panting heavily, Makoto saw that the giant spider was still alive and regenerating its body.
"That was delicious!" the spider exclaimed.
Although the spider was regaining consciousness, it was not fully aware yet. Makoto decided to use his blood to wake it completely. Without thinking, he rushed over. When he reached the spider, Makoto slashed his palm and shoved it into the spider's mouth.
"This is so delicious!" the spider said as it sucked Makoto's blood. No one knew how much blood it drank, but when Makoto began to feel dizzy, he pulled his hand back out of its mouth.
"Are you awake now?" Makoto asked, looking at his hand covered in slime.
"You truly are the best. I will never let you go," the spider said as it tried to hug Makoto.
Makoto quickly dodged. "Can you calm down for a moment?" he said while cleaning his hand with water magic. At the same time, Shin—after entrusting the dwarf to Ema, who had arrived to see what was happening—sent them back to the settlement to inform everyone that everything was fine.
"Makoto-sama, are you all right?" Shin asked worriedly after seeing Makoto's slightly pale face.
"I'm fine," Makoto replied as he bandaged his hand after cleaning it with water magic.
"It's been a long time, Black Spider. Now that you've regained consciousness, how are you?" Shin asked, looking at the black spider.
"Who are you?" the spider asked in confusion.
"I am Shin, the superior dragon who once fought you," Shin answered.
"I don't remember. Back then, I was driven only by hunger, so I remember very little. Now I've met someone who makes me feel full—I'm very happy," the spider said, gazing at Makoto with eyes full of affection.
Makoto shivered under that loving stare from the massive black spider.
"How about making a contract with me?" Makoto suggested, trying to ignore the gaze.
"Is that really okay?" the black spider asked.
"Shin, can you perform the contract ritual between me and her?" Makoto said, looking at Shin.
"Leave it to me, Makoto-sama," Shin replied confidently.
After Shin performed the contract between Makoto and the black spider, the spider's body was enveloped in light. When the light faded, a stunningly beautiful woman appeared, with shoulder-length black hair.
"Please take care of me forever, Danna-sama," the former black spider said to Makoto.
"I want black hair too, Makoto-sama!" Shin complained.
Makoto could only look up at the sky and let out a long sigh.
