Rose White's words surprised Mrs. Sterling, who turned to look at Sharon Dalton with a searching gaze. 'So she's been doing things like this behind our backs? Could Sharon be the reason all those other young ladies from prominent families have been treating Aurora worse and worse?'
Sharon Dalton clearly saw the shift in Mrs. Sterling's expression. A jolt of panic shot through her, and she hurriedly denied the accusation. "Grandma, I didn't! I would never do that! Aurora is so good to me, how could I do such a thing? Isn't that right, Aurora? You said you believed me, didn't you? Hurry up and tell Grandma! Say something! What are you just standing there for?!"
Sharon Dalton was clearly flustered. In her desperation to clear her name with Mrs. Sterling, she didn't seem to notice that her tone toward Aurora had become demanding and aggressive.
